Question: At the beginning of the move it is established that Big Jake has not seen his sons for 10 years, but it appears he is close enough geographically to be found, summoned and arrive before the bad guys can get more than a days' ride away from the ranch. Was he really that bad of a dad or is his arrival at the ranch a bit too magical?

Answer: It doesn't help explain locating Big Jake or time involved, but as to helping some with the quickness of him coming to help, remember he came in on a train, he didn't ride back home.

Answer: He has been gone for 10 years but knows "Juan and the little boy", not 10 years old I assume.

Answer: Jake was a very rough character when he was a younger man, and his wife did not want him around. After the grandson is rescued, the family realises he has changed and they reunite.

Question: When Frost attempts suicide, Beck shoots him in the shoulder to disarm him... why? He could have easily killed Frost (or Danny and Chris, who were several feet behind Frost).

EK8829

Chosen answer: Beck wants Frost to stand trial and suffer for his crimes. Realistically a trained officer would never do this not only for the reasons stated but also because police officers are trained to shoot to kill, not to wound.

Answer: Old people usually have poorly maintained butts for some reason. I work at a hospital, and it's the first place they check for sores.

Question: If Doc doesn't have a gravestone in the end, how is Marty from the beginning of the movie aware that he must go save his friend in 1885 instead of jumping straight to 1985?

Answer: The BTTF universe establishes time and again that time travel does not change the existing timeline, but rather creates alternate timelines. So even if Marty changes the past, it creates a new timeline independent of the one he left. So he can erase the gravestone that led him to 1885 without causing a paradox.

Answer: Even if the other answer is true, he wouldn't have needed to know that his friend died to go back and get him. Before you say Doc wouldn't have wanted to go back because he had settled in 1885, he only settled because he found that he couldn't fix the Delorean.

Answer: Its not SQD, it's CQD. This used to be the distress signal sent out by ships before SOS became commonplace, and it stems for the French pronunciation of CQ, the same as how they pronounce "sécurité". The D either means disaster or distress.

Friso94

Answer: It was CQD. It stands for "come quickly, distress" or "come quickly danger!"

CQ does not mean "come quickly." CQ meant all telegraph stations to be on alert. Later they added D to stand for Distress. CQD means "all stations: distress."

Question: When Silver detonates the explosives and causes the subway train to crash through to the lower level shouldn't the lights in the train cars have gone out, as the train was no longer connected to the electric system?

Answer: They probably have emergency battery backup.

Chosen answer: Rachel was tired of Ross' constant insecurity over their relationship and his unfounded jealousy over Mark, Rachel's co-worker. Ross was also fed-up because Rachel had become overly obsessed with working, and was not spending enough time with him. When Rachel said she wanted a break, it was in the heat of an argument. The next day she wanted to immediately get back together, only to discover that Ross had slept with the girl from the copy center within hours of their break-up.

raywest Premium member

Answer: Ross was being an insufferable jealous man. He never actually listened to Rachel when she said she didn't have time to stop for food and wine for their anniversary. Typical selfish baby behavior that was Ross Geller.

Question: During the barrel water scene, Bomba is catapulted through the air and fights a bunch of orcs, he discards his barrel because it is all smashed up. Where did the extra barrel he jumps into come from? We never see extra empty barrels following the dwarves.

Tony

Answer: When they are all getting into their barrels from Bilbos plan an extra barrel can be seen in the bottom right screen but Bilbo did not see it possibly because he just didn't notice.

Question: Why can't Dooku sense Obi-Wan on Geonosis? In ANH, Vader could sense Obi-Wan on the Death Star.

DFirst1

Chosen answer: For one thing Vader is significantly more powerful than Dooku. Vader also has a strong emotional connection with Obi Wan and thus it is easier to sense him.

BaconIsMyBFF

How come? Tyranus, Obi Wan and Vader are all force sensitive. So we could expect Dooku might have sensed Kenobi.

DFirst1

There's nothing in the film to suggest he did. In A New Hope, Vader specifically mentions sensing Obi Wan. In Return of the Jedi, Luke specifically mentions sensing Vader. There is no mention that either Obi Wan or Dooku could sense the other on Geonosis. Dooku being able to sense Obi Wan would go a long way to explain the hilarious ease of Obi Wan's capture, but it can't be said that he could sense him just because he can use the force and force users can do that. We aren't shown it and he doesn't mention it.

BaconIsMyBFF

Maybe Dooku sensed Obi Wan. But, I think it's part of the plan to get Kenobi captured. Because Dooku is going to reveal a "dark secret" to the Jedi.

DFirst1

Answer: Dooku knew that Obi Wan was spying him. But he did that on purpose, by luring him into a trap. As you can see in the film, he was captured so that Dooku would plant a seed with the Republic in order to ensure the Clone Wars began as Sidious and Tyranus planned.

DFirst1

Chosen answer: Obi-Wan used it until he made himself a new one. Then it was presumably turned over to the Jedi Temple.

Greg Dwyer

Answer: I've gone and looked over the entire episode. The first scene is of Leonard, Sheldon, Howard, Raj and Leslie playing paintball, and Penny is not present in the scene. The next scene is in the cafeteria in the university, and Penny is not present in this scene either. The next scene after that, they are at the apartment and Penny is present, but every time her feet are seen in the frame, she is wearing shoes. There is never a moment in which she does not have her shoes on. She also has her shoes on in every other scene she is present in. Is it possible you were referring to a different episode?

Casual Person

I'm referring to the one where Penny gets paint on Sheldon's spot.

Chosen answer: Much like the reason he didn't kill the duck when he first escaped. He wanted to show Shifu that he is better than the five and allowing them to go was the only way he would know.

Question: How did Bond win the game of backgammon, with Kamal Khan, when he didn't get all his chips off the board? Even the two sixes he rolled wouldn't have done it.

kh1616

Answer: Bond (taking over for the Major) had 1 piece on point 2, 1 piece on point 3, and 2 pieces on point 6. Rolling doubles in Backgammon means you get to make 4 moves instead of just 2, so he was able to remove all 4 pieces. If you have a piece on point 2, you don't have to roll a 2 to remove it. Anything higher than a 2 can be used to remove the piece. Kahn even says Bond has to roll a double 6 in order to win, which he does.

Bishop73

Answer: Not knowing anything about backgammon so this is perhaps wrong. But I thought that Bond didn't win. And the fact that he produced the Faberge egg is what ended the game. (I'm more than likely wrong tho).

Alan Keddie

Question: What type of guns did the time traveler use to kill the Confederate soldiers?

Answer: I'm pretty sure it was mp5 with muzzle brake.

Question: All of the residents of Eastern United States were informed by the president when the smaller of the two meteors were to strike in the Atlantic Ocean, yet, even with ample time to evacuate away from the area of impact, why did it appear the residents all chose to leave on the final day? (Clogged highways and chaos).

Answer: When the president announces the strikes, he says it will occur in 12 hours so they didn't have days to evacuate 100 million people, only hours.

The president tells people to leave with around 10 hours left before impact.

Ssiscool Premium member

Answer: There is no logical reason. It can be argued that people are just stubborn and/or reluctant to leave their homes under any circumstance. However, this is a movie, and showing the last-minute chaos of people attempting to evacuate heightens the tension and the drama.

raywest Premium member

Answer: They were trying to send missiles, which failed. The president spoke and that's when people started to leave.

Question: Two questions. Why did Clyde think Ames deserved to die? Sure, he was involved in the robbery, but he didn't participate in the murders, and in fact tried to save Clyde's wife from Darby. Also, why didn't Darby kill Clyde during the home invasion?

Answer: Clyde killed Ames so the police could find the hidden message and go after Darby which Clyde then lured him away to kill and place him on his property to start the cat and mouse game. Clyde blacked out too so he probably didn't remember too much what Ames did, even though he did say especially Darby is guilty. Not sure why Darby didn't kill Clyde. The scene suddenly ends. Maybe they tried or thought they killed him. I thought they stabbed him in his stomach and maybe expected him to die slowly but he managed to survive anyway.

Answer: He was also guilty by association. He was an accomplice who robbed them and even though he said stop, still watched Darby try to rape his wife.

Answer: Most likely this had to do with TV production concerns rather than depicting reality. The set for the home's main floor is bigger and allows for more action to be shown. The storm's damage and severe effects such as the high winds, torrential rain, thunder, lightning, etc. are from the windows, heightening the drama. If the family were in a cramped basement space, the action would be more static. Some artistic license is needed in order to tell the story.

raywest Premium member

Answer: In the episode Becky said they need to go to the basement and Roseanne said that they don't have a basement anymore because Dan had turned it into a storage locker. Dan replies saying he had to put his 2X4's and sheetrock somewhere.

Question: In court, Darby asks Nick if he's married. What's the meaning of this question, and why did he ask it? Seems a bit strange to just randomly ask someone that.

EK8829

Answer: Because Nick knows this man is guilty. He says it to almost imply, "well since I'm getting off, may as well make a visit to your family next. You married, Nick?"

Answer: The answer that someone else gave to this question is misleading; indicates that Clyde asked Nick if he was married. It was actually Darby who asks Nick this question. And there really is no answer except that Darby is a menace and a scoundrel. He only asked this to aggravate or pull some kind of thread at Nick. Nick knows this, which is why he replies to him the way he does.

Melissa Bostic

Answer: Probably because he was married with a child, and he wanted to know if he was also married, so he could possibly relate to his situation.

Question: How did the hijackers know who Kyle was in the first place? Kyle doesn't appear to have known them prior to meeting them on the plane so how did they know Kyle was an engineer and that David was her husband and that Julia was her daughter prior to killing her husband?

Answer: Carson was not the sole person who engineered the plot. There were others involved, and Carson would have been given the necessary information about Kyle in order to carry out his part of the plan.

raywest Premium member

Who would have given Carson the necessary information about Kyle? The only people involved in the plot besides Carson were Stephanie and the morgue director. Kyle doesn't appear to have known either Carson or Stephanie, and the only time she met the morgue director was at the beginning of the movie. So, where would Stephanie and the morgue director have gotten the information about Kyle?

Is it possible the hijackers tricked a coworker of Kyle's into giving them the information about Kyle and her family?

I thought he got the information about Kyle by hacking into files containing information about avionics engineers and their families.

Answer: There may be many unidentified others involved in the larger conspiracy - some individual or individuals killed Kyle's husband, possibly the coroner and/or police involved in the investigation into his death, airport security (why no cameras were referenced), and someone with access to the passenger manifest. There may be an insider who knew about Kyle's role as an engineer and pulled up info regarding her family, all to further the plot of framing her and unbalancing her. It's a massive plot hole.

Question: The ancient Aramaic or Minoan looking script on the shields of the four lying/truth-telling guards: does anyone know what it says or what language it is in?

WingedSunSerpentInfinity

Answer: What I have been able to decode is "one question. One answer. Tricks and challenge. And one says "lies" while the the other says "truth."

What did you use to decode it with? I have been over several pages of Khuzdul language and was only able to decipher what is written up there "Vzhklaiheaksh." That's the best I could figure it out.

lionhead

Answer: It's Runes, but I'm not sure which, there a few alphabets.

Answer: Its Tolkien dwarvish, the Khuzdul language. But i'm guessing its just gibberish. What it says on the bottom left part of the left shield is "Vzhklaiheaksh." Which means nothing.

Try with theban runes. They are often mistaken for tolkiens.

Answer: It looks like Tolkien's Runic language. As to what it says, there are translators online that may help.
