Question: Who does the voiceover for the trailer? He says: "Tom Cruise" and then "The last samurai".

don_corleone

Chosen answer: I'm not 100% sure, but I think it may have been Jim Cummings. He does a lot of voiceovers for movie trailers, cartoon characters, songs and the like. He's the voice of Cat in CatDog, Winnie the Pooh, Tasmanian Devil and has had small roles in films like Shrek, Sinbad and Antz. Find out more about him at this address: http://us.imdb.com/name/nm0191906/

Question: Why does Jabba get so..."intimate" with Leia? He has her pressed against his belly when she was first captured, and licked his lips (and, in numerous other sources - all official adaptations or even the script itself - say that he "kissed" her). The next time we see her, she's nearly naked, and chained by her neck to his throne. In this time, he keeps pulling her chain, forcing her body to be close to his. Finally, he pulls her to himself on the Sail Barge, and purrs into her face that she'll learn to appreciate him. Any ideas, suggestions, or thoughts - but no criticism - are welcome. I'm trying to collect thoughts.

redbaron2000

Chosen answer: I've always thought it was just a plot device they used to show what a bad guy Jabba is. If you didn't see those things you might actually like him. He's powerful, rich, intelligent, and certainly has a sense of style. All in all I think it just shows that he has a sickness about him that warrants him being killed.

RJR99SS

Answer: Jabba was a mob boss, who wanted to replace the slave girl he killed when she refused his advances. He knew that Leia was a strong and independent woman and wanted to break her spirit.

Question: When Harry's parents are shown in the mirror, are they supposed to be the age that they were when they died or the age they would be if they were still alive?

sdgirl98

Chosen answer: Since the mirror is reflecting Harry's desire, they are probably an idealized (to Harry) image of what they would look like if they were still alive.

Xofer

That doesn't explain how Harry could see rest of the Potter family. Surely, they weren't just in his mind?

Question: What does it mean to "bend it"? I'm assuming this is a soccer term...?

Ral0618

Chosen answer: It means that the ball curves when in flight - typically after a free kick is taken. During a free-kick, the defenders will form a wall between the kicker and the goal. So instead of kicking the ball in a straight line, spin is added so that, hopefully, it curves around the side of the wall.

Question: In the beginning of the movie, Christian is living in a flat with a sign that says L'amour on the side of the building. Does the sign change to L'ament by the end of the movie, after Satine dies? Or is it just the angle of the shot? (00:02:20 - 01:58:15)

Nikki

Chosen answer: It is in fact the angle of the shot, the sign L'amour is on Christians building throughout the movie, which means love in French.

Answer: It does say L'ament. I got it from the film script online. toulouse: There was a boy, a very strange, enchanted boy (as we pass the windmill, to Christian's garret, it becomes day. The "L'amour" sign becomes "L'ament." Satine's bird sits in its gilded cage outside Christian's window. The bearded Christian types).

Question: When David drives up to see Winnie to apologize for his childhood behaviour, he drives up to the house through what looks like the woods. Does anyone know that area of IL (Bensonville) and why there would be no formal road leading to Winnie's house?

ChiChi Premium member

Chosen answer: I don't know the area, but there is nothing unusual about a dirt road leading to a house, both my wife's parents and her brother have a long dirt road that leads to the house from a major road. It's common as the city or county doesn't usually have the budget to pave/maintain roads out past the city limits.

Question: How does Tyler know where Marla lives to save her from killing herself, if both Tyler and Edward Norton have never been to her apartment?

Melissa

Chosen answer: She had to have told Tyler after he picked up the phone. After all, she wasn't surprised when he showed up.

Question: Where is Educating Rita meant to be set? I know that it is all filmed in Dublin but none of the characters are Irish - they are Liverpudlian or else have indistinguishable "posh" accents.

Gail Field

Chosen answer: It isn't meant to be set anywhere in particular.

Question: What is a Briar Patch?

MAC

Chosen answer: A briar patch is basically a thorn bush. For insight as to what Riker meant when he said, "Let's use this briar patch the way Brehr Rabbit did," Take a look at http://www.otmfan.com/html/brertar.htm.

Garlonuss Premium member

Answer: The reference is from Disney's Song of the South. A group of children listen to a old man's tall tales of a dumb Rabbit and Bear.

Question: When was there a Mini Shaguar? It could have just not been used in the American version, but I also may have missed it.

Jackie Menechino

Chosen answer: In a trailer shown on the Infinifilm DVD, Verne Troyer stars with lots of little people which looks to parody the trailer from the first film. In the end, he flips into the Mini-Shaguar.

Question: This is a question for both X-1 and X-2. Is the actor that plays Mystique wearing a body suit for her blue makeup? In several scenes in both movies it looks like she is practically naked with just blue painting.

iceverything776

Chosen answer: In almost all cases, yes, she's naked, but for a few strategically placed prosthetics.

Xofer

Question: Does anyone know what that whole "three sea shells" thing is all about? Was there anything that let us know exactly how they worked?

troy fox

Chosen answer: No, they kept it a joke throughout the movie.

Question: What exactly is Leo saying to Anderton when he "confesses" to kidnapping his son? I can't make out most of what he's whispering in this scene - I caught something about pretzels when he first started speaking, then when Anderton asks if he's still alive, he said something about a barrel.

Chosen answer: Leo: "I told him I was a policeman. I told him I needed his help. It wasn't so bad. I sang him a song, I bought him a pretzel. I bought him a pretzel! He was happy. He was happy." Anderton: "Is he alive? He's alive? Where have you got him? Is he all right? Tell me, you f**k! Where is he?" Leo : "I put him in a barrel. I sunk him in the bay. It floated back up. I took him out. I was gentle (3 times). I'm sorry (4 times). I'm so very sorry." Anderton: "How could you do that to my boy?" They fight. Anderton points his gun at Leo. Leo: "I'm sorry" Agatha: "You can choose. You can choose." Anderton: "You have the right to remain silent...", etc.

Question: I still don't know this but why EXACTLY are the elves leaving Middle Earth?

Chosen answer: For various reasons. Because with the distruction of the One Ring the protective powers of the Three Rings of the Elves diminished, because their fate is not bound with that of Middle-Earth's which means they can take the straight road to the Undying Lands instead of having to remain in Middle-Earth until its end. Also, if they remained in Middle-Earth they would eventually diminish, so they left for the Undying Lands where they would be immortal (Elves are not immortal in Middle-Earth, they just age *very* slowly, but in any case slowly enough to be considered immortal by the race of Men).

Question: Was the minigun used by Jesse Ventura in Predator the same one (as in the same physical prop, not just the same model and/or configuration) later used by Arnold Schwarzenegger in Terminator 2?

J I Cohen

Chosen answer: Check out http://www.montysminiguns.com/MoviePage.htm. This site confirms that the same minigun is used in both movies, and is (or was) on display at the Allegheny Arms and Armor Museum in Smethport, Pennsylvania.

Question: Was it true that Futurama was on hiatus around 2002 before it was finally cancelled? If so, what is the reason for the hiatus?

megamii

Chosen answer: The hiatus and the cancellation were for the same reason, a dispute over ownership between Matt Groening and Fox. Fox actually own the majority of the interest in the Simpsons, but their stake in Futurama is much more limited. This gives Groening more bargaining power with the show, and unfortunately Fox were unhappy with this so put the show on hiatus and then cancelled it.

Question: I am aware that Canada and Mormons appear frequently in South Park. Is there a reason for them to appear?

megamii

Chosen answer: Trey Parker and Matt Stone have said that they're making fun of the media; Canadians are very similar to Americans, yet the US media often portrays them has being very different. Trey Parker apparently grew up around a lot of Mormons and, we can infer, organised religion didn't make a good impression on him.

Question: Could someone please explain the ending of this movie? Am I right when I conclude that Rusty Nail planted the Ice Truck guy's body in the driver's seat and then got away leaving cops to think the Ice Truck guy was the killer? I think I'm missing something here because that ending would be ridiculously unrealistic. Thank you.

Jeanne Perrotta

Chosen answer: That's exactly what happened leaving room for the sequel, if they make one.

T Poston

Question: Does anyone know what kind of pistols Martin Blank uses in this film? Also, is the gunfire sound they make accurate? It's very distinctive.

Phil C.

Chosen answer: His pistols are 9mm Glock 17's (http://www.glock.com/g17.jpg). No movie firearm shot is authentic as it would sound very flat and unexciting because the blank rounds used are very quiet (not much louder than clapping your hands actually). The shot sounds are added in post production.

Question: Does anyone know who played the knight that hit people over the head with a dead chicken?

Xofer

Chosen answer: That would be Terry Gilliam, who played a lot of non-speaking roles in the series, and some speaking ones like Cardinal Fang in 'The Spanish Inquisition.' He did all the animation as well, but I'm sure you knew that.
