The Stranded - S3-E10

Question: When Jerry and Elaine are at the party, Elaine is talking to a woman who keeps saying she cant find her fiance. Then Elaine, in response to the woman saying, "I cant find my baby," says to her, "maybe the dingo ate your baby." Can anyone explain this phrase?

Answer: It's a reference to the 1988 movie "A Cry in the Dark" starring Meryl Streep (who uses an New Zealand/Australian accent, as this movie was based on a true story). Elaine is paraphrasing a line from The Movie.

Question: When Rosemary gets into the Castavets right at the end, she walks past a man, and then the man says something. She then replies "Be quiet, you're still in [some location]" What was that about...?

Hamster

Chosen answer: Roman Castavet is trying to get Rosemary's attention, and she says "Be quiet, you're in Dubrovnik, I can't hear you". That was in reference to the fact that Roman and Minnie were supposed to have gone to Majorca or Dubrovnik after she found out that Roman was supposedly dying (which was just a lie Rosemary was told so she wouldn't suspect them when her baby was taken). Roman and Minnie got in a cab and pretended to go to the airport, but never left town.

Question: When someone becomes a Sith, they take a different name, i.e. Palpatine becomes Darth Sidious, Count Dooku becomes Darth Tyranus, Anakin Skywalker becomes Darth Vader. Does anyone know Darth Maul's non-Sith name?

Answer: No. According to the official sources, Maul was trained in the Sith ways from a very early age - it's quite likely that he himself doesn't remember his original name. Even if he does remember it, it would mean nothing to him any more - the Sith and their ways are his life - and he certainly wouldn't answer to it. According to the non-canon novel "Darth Plagueis", Darth Maul was named "Maul" by his mother before she turned him over to a young Palpatine. He didn't take a new name when he got the title "Darth."

Question: Did Joey ever mention moving to L.A. or did he just move and not tell anyone? Moving to the other side of the country is pretty much bigger than anyone else's reason for splitting up the group, surely?

Answer: We never saw what happened after the last episode of friends, we do not know how much time passed between that last episode and Joey's move. I assume at some point after the last episode of friends he decided to move to LA, and I am sure he told everyone at some point. If you remember he was kind of depressed that all of his friends where married and starting families, I am sure this helped him decide to move.

Chosen answer: Rock Salt is salt that is in huge grains, about the size of the grains in kitty litter or grape-nuts cereal. It's used in ice cream makers and water softeners among other things.

Grumpy Scot

Chosen answer: She makes a square shape with her fingers in the air when she is talking to Vernita Green ("That would make us about square"). she does the same motion to John Travolta right before they go into Jack Rabbit Slims in Pulp Fiction.

Question: Can someone explain the whole thing about the dart being shot into Beatrix's leg by Bill. What did it do?

Hamster

Chosen answer: It was a truth serum so Bill could make sure Beatrix would tell him the truth when he asked her the three questions.

Question: How do Han Solo and Chewbacca end up together?

Answer: After the end of the Clone Wars and the creation of the Empire, the Wookies were enslaved, ostensibly as punishment for helping Jedi fugitives. Chewbacca worked as a slave for some years, before being rescued by Han Solo, at the time a cadet at the Imperial Academy and acting entirely against his orders. Solo was kicked out of the Academy and vanished into the life of a smuggler, accompanied by Chewbacca, who had sworn a life-debt to his rescuer.

Question: When Sylvia is reading through Simon's book, she writes down that Simon died, etc. Then she started to write "Sylvia". Why?

Jason Feng

Chosen answer: At this point, she has set her mind on killing the African leader and knows she'll likely be killed immediately afterwards (police, bodyguards, etc). She's writing her name in anticipation of her death.

Question: Throughout the film you can see that Tank, played by Dave Power, has funny-looking thin black scars on both cheeks. Was this a makeup effect for the character (and if so, why did they do it), or does the actor really have these scars on his cheeks (and if so, what from)?

Answer: The scars you see on Tank's face are fake, pure makeup. They wanted the character to have a gritty look.

Question: One of the mistakes for this film is "In the scene when Ben Kingsley is called a traitor by the woman, at the far right of some shots, you can see the right side (viewer's left) of a man moving slightly." - can anyone make this more specific. Who is calling Ben Kingsley a traitor? His wife, or Jennifer Connoley. Could anyone supply a timecode for this, as I'd like to see it.

Hamster

Chosen answer: I believe the post is refering to when Ben Kingsley's wife is yelling at him after the cop first threatens them with deportation. But his wife calls him a coward, not a traitor, and there is no one in the scene except for the 3 family members (I've gone through the scene several times in slow motion).

Answer: It sounds kind of like a fantasy book, the hobbit is just about the most famous fantasy book ever written.

Question: Why has '10-second Tom' never introduced himself to the doctor in the clinic? After all, he was taken to the hospital after the accident, so his memory already lasted only 10 seconds. How could he remember who the doctor is?

Answer: The doctor is standing to the side of Tom while everyone else was in front of him, and proceeded with introducing himself to them first. So he most likely didn't see him in time to acknowledge him every ten second. Plus the only time he does acknowledge the doctor is there is when the doctor says something.

Question: Is it true that Lee was able to steal enough money from her victims to buy a house (or even just put a down payment on it?) I would assume she could only use cash, and it seems unfeasible that she'd be able to acquire that much cash from people's wallets without murdering hundreds of them.

Krista

Chosen answer: In the story it shows she does not kill every man. It is possible she had sex with multiple men without killing them and got more money (but maybe not that much) than just what she stole from the men she killed.

Answer: They never bought a house. They lived in cheap hotel rooms where Tyria Moore (Selby's real name) worked as a chamber maid.

Question: What is the name of the song being played when all the cars are lined up at Carters mansion before he talks to them about his confiscated Ferrari?

Answer: Trick Daddy - Represent.

Question: The lady that plays Julia Stile's mother looks remarkably like Swoozie Kurtz. Any relation?

Answer: I can not find any reference to Joan Brandwyn's mother. I do not remember seeing her. Perhaps you are thinking of Mrs. Warren, Kirsten Dunst's mother in the film. She is played by Donna Mitchell. I have been unable to find a connection between the two.

Question: I know this movie was based on a Broadway play. Does anyone know how it is revealed in the play what Alice's real name is, and also how Dan realizes that "Alice Ayers" was a fake name? Both of these facts are revealed in the movie without dialogue, so I was wondering what the play was like.

Answer: The play ends quite differently from the film. Larry and Anna meet in the park with the plaques - they are no longer together, they are each dating someone new. Larry points out the "Alice Ayers" plaque to Anna, who reads it out loud. Larry notes how she made up everything about herself. Anna says she is meeting Dan there, he asked to see her. When Dan arrives, with a suitcase, Larry leaves. Dan says the police in New York called to tell him "Jane Jones" had died, and he learns that was Alice's real name. He is on his way to New York. The End.

Question: When Elektra goes back to her old house, she uses the gas stove to blow up the bad guys. She also turns on the bedside lamp. Is someone really paying the electric and gas bills after all those years? I'm assuming she didn't call Con Ed to reup right before she went to the house to fight.

Answer: Elektra's father was a wealthy shipping magnate and could afford to maintain the electric and gas bills for a house that the family hadn't visited in years.
