Question: While re-watching "Sin City" on HBO recently, I realised that the closed captioning for this film has been noticeably censored. While the audio track seems intact, every instance of the word "fag" results in that entire line of dialogue being omitted from closed captioning. Is this strangely selective closed captioning censorship featured on the original "Sin City" DVD, or is this HBO's own particular brand of censorship?

Question: Why did the spitfire pilot land on the beach at the end of the movie facing certain internment when he could have ditched and be taken back to Blighty?
Answer: After running out of fuel, he kept his craft aloft as long as he could so he could shoot down the enemy plane. He then landed when and where he safely could, which was on the beach but in enemy territory. Ditching a plane in water is dangerous and would have meant far less chance of survival.
Question: Why, in the credits and trailers, does it say "and introducing Daniel Craig as Joe Bang"? Isn't introducing used for new actors, not really famous ones?
Question: When Amy is told that she cannot go to the opera with Meg and Jo, Beth tells Amy, "Evangeline and I will make you some ginger tea." The cook/maid's name is listed as Hannah in the cast credits, and she is referred to by the name of Hannah a few times in the movie. Who is Evangeline?
Chosen answer: Evangeline is their cat.
Answer: The cat is named Evangeline. She's holding her while she says that line.
So the cat named Evangeline is going to make tea for Amy?
Not literally. She was just humanizing her cat. It's something people do, just like how you can buy greeting cards "from the cat" or "from the dog."
Beth was trying to be funny by saying the cat would help make the tea.
Question: How was Sara so sure that there was no engineer on the train, considering that she was not able to get to the front carriage to find out?
Chosen answer: Most likely from the speed at which the train was going, a train is like driving any large vehicle. You have to maintain a certain pace, to stop at an instant, for the unexpected.
Question: Normally, whenever Jason gets shot, struck with a machete or an axe, or stabbed with a knife, he shrugs it off. So why was he angry when Roy shot him with a paint gun?
Chosen answer: He wasn't really angry, more like confused and annoyed at having paint shot at him.
Question: As many times as I've seen this movie, I don't understand how Pete comes to the conclusion that Miranda is not delusional in the end. We see him searching images of the tattoo she kept talking about, but I just don't understand how that would lead him to finally believe that she has been telling the truth. Can anyone explain this to me?
Chosen answer: It's not that he fully believed her, but after doing some fact checking on the computer, he would find it odd that all the "nonsense" she was babbling about seemed to be true. He was most likely went to the police station to talk more about her visions.
Answer: Also we don't know the full extent of what Pete saw on the internet. There may have been a photo of the sheriff displaying his tattoo. I always find it best not to question silly films like this too much (save that for deeper films) - I mean, we accept that a ghost possesses Halle Berry, but get hung up on how a man's internet search persuaded him to believe a woman he knew and loved.
Answer: He loved her that's pretty clear in the movie and probably didn't want to believe she was crazy so he checked things out and knew she was in trouble.
Question: Why was Liz so interested when Peter said he doesn't work for Stark anymore? She doesn't consider Peter as that much of a friend. She barely talked to Peter and spent the whole ride on her phone and tried to make Peter give her the corsage and only went with him to the dance cause she didn't have a date.
Chosen answer: She didn't "only go with him because she didn't have a date". She was interested in dating Peter, and knew he was interested in her. She had been waiting for him to finally build up the nerve to talk to her about it. She was interested in Peter leaving the Stark internship because she was genuinely interested. The awkward silence before hand was due to her dad being in the car (as it would be for a shy teenage boy with his date's father present).
Question: Is it true that the actor who plays Flash received death threats after he got the role?
Chosen answer: Actor Tony Revolori, nee Anthony Quinonez, was a controversial choice to play Flash. In the comic books, Flash is a jock of European descent. Mr. Revolori is Guatemalan, and not particularly athletic in appearance. Some comic book fans are notoriously traditional. Often, when the race, ethnicity, gender or sexual orientation of well known comic book characters are changed for modern portrayals, a segment of the fan base reacts negatively. In an interview with the website CBR.com, the actor stated: "I'm not what the character was in the comic books...and there's still people who will hate that fact. It was very disheartening to receive hate mail and death threats and things like that." There is no mention of the exact nature of the alleged threats, nor how seriously Mr. Revolori took them. There is also no indication of formal police involvement.
Question: At the end of the film, when Tulip reunites with her family, the wolf pack is there along with Junior and the other birds to support Tulip. I don't get it. What made the wolves reform? What made them switch to Junior and Tulip's side?
Question: After Pigeon Toady finds Junior and Tulip with the baby girl, he returns to Conservatoire to make the report to Hunter. While Hunter strategizes in tracking down Junior and Tulip, Toady points out that they don't know where they going. That reduces Hunter in planning to change the address of the baby's homing beacon. Why doesn't Toady use his phone to call Hunter once he finds Junior and Tulip, and why doesn't he continue to follow them?
Chosen answer: Toady is intent on impressing Hunter by reporting Junior and Tulip to him. He was likely so eager to report Junior and Tulip to Hunter that he forgot all about where Junior and Tulip were going off too, but instead to let Hunter know about what was happening and likely be given some recognition from him.
Question: After Hunter falls off Stork Mountain and Junior and Tulip survive the fall, Jasper shows up with blankets which he suggests the storks use to deliver the newly produced babies. If Jasper was at the factory by the time Hunter caused Junior and Tulip to fall, why doesn't he fly down to save them?
Chosen answer: There were hundreds of other storks who were there who chose to not fly down, Jasper was not the only stork who didn't fly down to help Junior and Tulip. The other storks were standing there looking over the edge, to see if anyone from the collapsing building would come back. Since the storks can fly, they all likely, including Jasper, assumed Junior could just fly back to the other section of the building, or perhaps were unsure if Junior and Tulip would still be alive, so did not want to risk themselves getting killed.
Question: Two questions about Tulip. 1) The first time Jasper takes Tulip to her family's house so she can meet them, why does she hesitate to ring the doorbell? Why does she walk away? 2) How does Tulip manage to find Junior at the fake house Hunter traps him in?
Chosen answer: 1) She feared that her family would not want her given that so much time had passed since her family had requested her to be delivered by the storks. 2) She knew the address to go to because it was listed on the delivery beacon.
Question: In season 1 the mystery is what really happened to the Young family that made Mary Alice kill herself. While it's revealed that Zach was in fact a baby named Dana and a son of Mike and Deirdre, I really don't understand why Zach had a female name and then later got a male name with his new parents. Is there something I'm missing or is Dana just a unisex name?
Chosen answer: Dana is a unisex name. I'm they changed it because of them keeping them without anyone knowing. If you recall Mary Alice's name used to be Angela. All their names were changed.
Question: Why were the X-men planning to escape in the helicopter instead of the jet they came in? Did they forget that Rogue and Bobby and John were waiting for them?
Chosen answer: The dam was breaking and at any moment they could all be killed. The helicopter was merely the quickest way to escape since they were much closer to it. Presumably they would have contacted Rogue and Bobby as soon as they got in and guided them on how to escape, or tried to go and pick them up.
Question: During the Mansion attack scene, Stryker and his men are presumably defenseless against Wolverine with their guns because of his immune regenerating abilities. So why not just stay at the Mansion and kill them all off, securing the Mansion, while the other students escape with Colossus. Was it because of the remaining students who refused to leave?
Answer: Firstly, Wolverine is not invulnerable. A later scene shows him being knocked out cold when he is shot in the head. Secondly, the best plan was to escape. The mansion was being overwhelmed and even with his abilities Wolverine would have a hard time fighting that many soldiers without casualties on his side.
Question: Near the end of the movie, Kevin makes the 911 call because of the bandits. Why couldn't he had just done this instead of bothering to set up all the traps in the first place? Was he possibly trying to see if he couldn't kill them first instead, then call? Either way, the police were coming over with the call.
Answer: If Kevin called 911 sooner and was found to be "home alone" he knows the police would probably put him into Child Protective Services, leaving the house unguarded. His parents could face some legal issues for having left him behind. Since the burglars hadn't actually done anything yet, the police could not have taken any action against them. Also, Kevin's a kid. He was not trying to kill the burglars, but by his reasoning, he thinks it's his duty to protect the family's home.
Answer: Yeah, that would have made a great film, wouldn't it? "Kevin rings the Police, Harry and Marv are prevented from breaking into his house, and everybody lives happily ever after." A surefire winner.
Answer: Kevin was afraid to call the police because he had stolen a toothbrush so now considered himself to be a wanted criminal. This is why Kevin didn't want to show his face to the pizza delivery man (since the same man worked at the drug store) and also why Kevin changed his voice when he finally did call 911.
Yet Kevin is happy to call to the police with his real voice near the end of the second movie and is present when the police arrest the Bandits despite being a wanted criminal for stealing a credit card.

Chosen answer: The word "fag" is only used once in the entire movie, spoken by Becky who refers to a club called the Amigo as a "fag joint." The omission in the subtitles might just be an oversight. HBO is known for having original content that pushes the envelope of what people consider to be tasteful (such as "Game of Thrones" and "The Sopranos") so it's highly unlikely that they would be resorting to censorship.
