Answer: There were counter attacks in Washington and New York along with the L.A. squadron. Only the L.A. scene was shown because Will Smith is a main character. The guy with the headset on in the command center that was coordinating the attack alongside the general and the president mentioned that the Washington, and New York squadrons were locked on as well as with L.A. As you could imagine their efforts were futile, along with the one shown with Will Smith, and were only worth mentioning. Also when they reached Area 51, the General told the secretary of defense that they should have told them about this place before they launched an attack that cost them the lives of hundreds of American pilots. The L.A. battle seemed to only show maybe 4 or 5 dozen aircraft, not hundreds.

Answer: Most likely because the military "deciders" didn't know what to expect from the aliens and the ship Will Smith's unit attacked was in the least populated area, thus minimizing any potential civilian casualties. They were testing the waters, so to speak, before committing too many resources on a tactic that may prove futile.

Question: What was the exact significance of the "bread crumbs?" It still confuses me.

Answer: The doctor who was killed had a copy of the book Hansel and Gretel in his lab. He knew that Detective Spooner would see the book during his investigation, and that would prompt him to follow the first clue he found to the next clue, and so on. The trail of breadcrumbs were used by Hansel and Gretel in the children's story as a way to find their way home. For more info, check http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hansel_and_Gretel.

Jazetopher

Spooner is old school. He knew Spooner would understand that breadcrumbs meant a series of clues to follow that he left.

Question: When Jack asks for Tia Dalma's help, she asks him what he brought for her. Jack then lifts the cage containing the monkey and shoots it. Jack then says, "An undead monkey". How is it possible for the monkey to be undead, wasn't the curse on the Black Pearl lifted?

Answer: There is a scene after the credits of "The Curse of the Black Pearl": the monkey got back to the cave and took a coin. That way he turned undead again.

Question: What's the name of the song that is played very often, at the beginning and throughout the movie, it's very slow and calm?

Answer: It's most likely "Kissing You" by Des'ree - the love theme from the movie.

Question: Who are the motorbike riders who put the flyers up announcing the Golden Tickets? They're too tall to be Oompa-Loompas.

Answer: Presumably they were hired by Wonka in some manner. They may, for example, be the men who usually drive his delivery trucks for him.

Question: One of the doctors Phibes blames for his wife's death during an operation is Dr. Hargreaves, whose head is crushed inside a frog mask during a costume ball. But earlier, while introducing himself to Phibes, Dr. Hargreaves says he is a psychiatrist ("headshrinker"). Why would a psychiatrist be present during an operation to save someone's life?

Answer: A psychiatrist is still an M.D., and still went to medical school. Perhaps this one had some knowledge of the case, or was simply on hand to provide assistance.

wizard_of_gore

Answer: To treat anticipated shock.

Show generally

Question: In the episode where Peter and his friends get stuck on an island, just before that happens they're on the boat and death comes and asks for a beer. Why does he come if no one dies?

Answer: Death apparently expected one of them to die in the storm but he was obviously mistaken. As seen in pretty much all his appearances in Family Guy, Death really isn't quite on the ball with who is actually dead (or going to die) and who isn't.

Question: This may not be true for everybody, but I read that *all* babies are born with blue eyes, and then the color changes as the person gets older. When we see Matilda as a baby, her eyes are brown. Is that possible?

Answer: While babies are often born with paler eyes than they will have as toddlers, many babies are born with brown eyes.

Myridon

Answer: I'm white and had brown eyes from birth. It's just an old wives tale that every baby, or every white baby, is born with blue eyes.

Answer: The eye colour of a baby depends on their skin colour. White babies have steely blue eyes, which can be dark (this might be why Matilda's eyes look brown). Babies with darker skin have brown eyes. The colour of an infant's eyes can change during the transition to toddlerhood, but not always.

Show generally

Question: In which episode is it stated how long Sam spends bouncing around in time in between leaps? I have watched the lot and never heard this.

Answer: The amount of time Sam is away between leaps isn't constant, but in "Genesis" Al tells Sam that it's been around a week between Sam leaping out of Tom Stratton & into the baseball player even though from ours & Sam's perspective it happened straight away.

Answer: The name of the song is "Make Your Own Kind of Music" by Mama Cass Elliot.

Angela Wilbourn

Answer: Somewhere in her early twenties.

Question: How exactly did Peter Jackson get the rights to this series? He is obviously a talented director but, and this is no offence intended, his previous credits are basically limited to relatively small-time comedy horror movies. To go from that to producing the first live action movie adaptations of what is perhaps the most famous book series in the world seems a bit odd, especially given how little Hollywood likes to take risks nowadays.

Gary O'Reilly

Chosen answer: Presumably you are referring to "Bad Taste" and "Braindead" as Jackson's low-budget horror films. Bear in mind though, that Jackson had directed "Heavenly Creatures", a highly-acclaimed drama, and "The Frighteners" starring Michael J. Fox, which despite being quite a low-budget horror film showcased high-quality visual effects from Jackson's Weta Digital company. Also, it may have been Jackson's ability to work on a small budget that won him the gig: the LOTR films had often been considered too expensive to make. Plus this isn't unprecendented - when the Wachowski Brothers presented their idea for The Matrix the studio didn't want to give them a massive budget straight away. They made "Bound" first for a relative pittance, and that was enough to convince the studio they had the talent necessary for a huge movie.

Question: Why is there a 4 in place of an 'a' on the title? It says "L4yer Cake".

Answer: Because the logo's a car registration plate and a number fits that structure better than just letters.

Answer: I think the 4 stands for the drug Ecstasy.

Question: Why wasn't Anne Hathaway used in the beginning scenes of the movies when we see Princess Mia at her graduation but only the back of her, a headless shot on the airplane and only her cat gets out of the limo when they arrive at the castle? We don't actually see her until she appears on the balcony in the red strapless gown for her 21st birthday celebration ball.

Sheri Hartman

Chosen answer: This makes it more dramatic when they finally show her face and the audience sees how much Mia has grown up since the last movie.

Phixius

Answer: I wonder about this too. It could be for dramatic purposes before the balcony scene. But graduation scene is definitely not Anne. The girl's hair looked thicker than of Anne's.

Answer: I had the very same question it wasn't until the third scene that they show her face.

Answer: You actually DO see her face at the college graduation. After the ceremony, she is holding her diploma and talking to her two friends. She tells one "Thank your mom for all the cookies", and then Joe tells her that they need to leave to get on the plane.

Answer: But they never show her face until she is on the plane.

Question: When the Kraken attacks the ship near the end, several unnamed "extras" are manning the cannons, getting killed, etc. My question is where did all these sailors come from? All the unnamed sailors in Jack's original crew died on the cannibal island, and they picked up a maximum of four in Tortuga.

Answer: We only saw the four that were recruited on Tortuga. Additional sailors could have been added before they set sail, although far from the 99 that Jack needed to save his soul.

raywest

Answer: It's called "You belong to the City", and is by Glenn Frey.

Question: I am sure I've heard some of the T-Rex sound effects before, particularly the growling noise it makes when Tim shuts the door of the Ford Explorer in the first big T-Rex scene. I thought perhaps they were stock sound effects but was told they were all created for the movie. Can anyone tell me where else they might have been used? I get the feeling some might have been used in one of the Doom games.

Answer: The sound effects were created specifically for the movie and Spielberg has a very strict policy against letting his material be used for stock (because of an incident in which footage from his movie "Duel" was recycled into the Incredible Hulk TV show). Therefore, you could not have heard this particular growl anywhere else. Perhaps it was just very similar. One place you may have heard it was on the software program GoZilla. That used the Rex roar when a download completed.

Answer: I always thought it sounded like the predator. The little clicking growling noises that is, not the roar.

Question: I'm curious to know: Jack was the captain of the Pearl when they found the island with the Aztecs gold. In another post it was stated that Jack, as the Captain, would recieve 2/3 of the loot. So why didn't Jack take a piece of the gold along with the other pirates?

Answer: Because they threw a mutiny and marooned Jack on an island so he was not there to take a piece of gold.

bessytheevilcow

Question: What was the black spot on Jacks hand all about? Was it the beginning of a mutation like Davy Jones's crew or was it something else? Also, why did Jack's crew do spins when they saw it?

Answer: The black spot means he is a marked man. It originated in the book Treasure Island. It is just showing that Davy Jones it after him. The reason Gibbs spins and spits is for luck, the reason Pintel and Regetti do it (according to the book) is because they saw Gibbs do it and so they do it just in case it will help them.

Disney-Freak

Question: In the trailer there is a scene where we see Will possibly on the island where he is reunited with Elizabeth and he says "Where's Jack, I can't leave without him. Never mind let's go." This scene does not occur in the movie but Will does say almost the same thing but he says, "time to go". Why is it different?

Answer: Trailers often use different takes to the finished film, as the film itself is rarely finalised at the point where they're publicising it. In this case, they ultimately decided to use a different take where Will uses different wording.
