Question: What was the purpose of the bag on the hood ornament of the police car in the beginning of the movie?
Answer: You fill the canvas bag with water, put it somewhere where the air can blow through, and the evaporation of the water seeping through the canvas creates cool water inside.
Answer: The bag is "spare" radiator water for when you're in the desert.
Question: Why does the maid age, while everyone else remains the age they were when they died?
Answer: Moira's ghost form is unique because of the way she was treated when she was alive. To people who do not sexualize her and truly understand and view her for who she really (namely women), she is seen as an older woman. To people who objectify and don't care to see the truth (namely men), they see the young seductive Moria. It's a strong directorial choice to eventually show how Ben Harmen comes to terms with the truth of the house and himself.
Murder House - S1-E3
Question: If all the people who were murdered in the house stay as ghosts, why does Hugo (Constance's husband) never show up again in the season? All of the other ghosts did.
Answer: Hugo did show up; he was seen having sex with Hayden (Ben's mistress).
Question: There are two scenes on the boat after they have seen the shark and Brody has a panicked look, while in the background a shooting star passes right behind him. This happens twice, but it's in the day time. Was it real?
Answer: Although the 1995 documentary "The Making of Jaws" claims that the shooting star was real, the fact is that the shooting-star background effect is a Steven Spielberg trademark in most of his films (first noticed in "Jaws," but also appearing in "Close Encounters," "E.T. The Extraterrestrial," "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom," "Saving Private Ryan" and others). Spielberg has always had a fascination with shooting stars, dating back to his childhood, and he works them into almost every film. Question: In the beginning of the film, Eli kills the cat with the arrow. He has donned a full gas mask and protective clothing. If the air was bad enough that he was not able to breathe it for fear of toxic fallout, how could he have eaten the cat and not gotten radioactive poisoning anyway?
Chosen answer: I believe Eli was donning such protective gear, not as a means to protect himself from fall-out or any other such dangers but rather, as a means to mask his scent from the wild animals he was hunting. He would have been 'sniffed out' otherwise and nothing would have even come close.
It was camouflage.
Question: Was the police force in the 50s really that corrupt and brutal?
Chosen answer: Yes.
Answer: Yes indeed. Example: "Bloody Christmas," which takes place in the beginning of the film, was based on a real incident, when on Christmas Day, 1951, some 50 officers, many of them drunk (in violation of the LAPD's alcohol policy), beat six prisoners to a bloody pulp in revenge for an assault on a fellow officer. At least 100 people knew about or witnessed the beatings.
Question: Why didn't Jarvis alert Tony immediately that Selvig was in his building assembling the machine on the balcony to open the portal?
Chosen answer: Jarvis only has access to Tony through certain methods. The Iron Man helmet has speakers for Jarvis to speak through and buildings Jarvis is installed in as well. It's likely Jarvis warned Tony through other means, but either A) Tony figured it out by the time he got the message or B) In all the chaos of the attack on the Hellicarrier, Tony didn't see it.
Question: Maybe I missed something, but why didn't Gandalf notice that Sam was not there? He acts surprised when Aragorn says that Frodo didn't go to Mordor alone, Sam went with him. Yet, he has already seen Merry and Pippin, and Legolas, Gimli and Aragorn are with him, and he knows that Frodo went on alone, so where does he think Sam is? Please excuse me if I missed something.
Answer: The movie makes it clear that Gandalf has lost some of his memory and his personality has changed. Gandalf actually did die and pass over to the "other side", as it were but was sent back to complete his task. However, he was sent back as a similar, but different entity. Gandalf the White does not have all the memories of Gandalf the Grey, at least at first. He doesn't even remember that he used to be called Gandalf the Grey until someone points this out to him. It is implied that Gandalf doesn't even remember Sam until Aragorn mentions him. Gandalf then searches his memories and remembers who Sam is and his eventual importance to Frodo's quest. When he finally remembers this, he is pleased that Sam went with Frodo, as he will play a crucial role near the end of the journey.
Question: It is stated that it was originally Fear who was supposed to get lost in the mind with Joy rather than Sadness. After Riley quits hockey, while Anger and Disgust are frustrated by the disaster without Joy at Headquarters, Fear tries to abandon Headquarters through the same tube Joy and Sadness get sucked into. Is that a reference to the early concept of him getting lost with Joy?
Chosen answer: Unlikely. More likely it's in character for Fear to try to run away.
Question: The Secret Service Agents rush up the mansion stairs to the bedroom grabbing the stair banister multiple times without gloves. Why didn't the police pick up their fingerprints? And where did they get the crowbar? Is that standard issue for agents?
Answer: The female detective states the carpet is spotlessly clean, indicating they had performed an intense cleanup not shown on camera so they would no doubt cover the staircase as well and wipe it clean of prints. As for the crowbar, it is more than likely part of a "kit" in the boot (trunk) of secret service vehicles.
Question: When the away team first beams down to the location where the shuttle has crash landed, the serial number on the separated nacelle is visible as 1701-D, as also seems to be inscribed on the shuttle itself. Shouldn't this serial number only appear on shuttles coming from the USS Enterprise?
Answer: The crashed shuttle is Shuttlecraft-13, which came from The Enterprise. Troi took it to the conference that she was returning from.
Question: How is Rey able to control a Stormtrooper's mind, when trying to escape from the torture chair, after only a few attempts? Luke knew that he was Force-sensitive for three years before he met Yoda, and still has very limited abilities when Yoda begins to train him.
Answer: When Kylo Ren is attempting to read her mind it is clear that she manages to push back. It is possible that in the process of this she gained a glimpse of how to use the force. There are also many theories that she started training as a Jedi when young but repressed the memories after all the other training Jedi were killed.
Question: In the end, the Pterosaurs fly away from Isla Sorna for a new home. Where on Earth would they go and wouldn't they attack and kill any human or animal there?
Answer: The island was located west of Costa Rica in the pacific so its likely they are headed for the Americas or Galapagos islands. They won't likely start hunting on animals and humans as they are thought to be fish eaters and thus would stay near the coast and avoid contact with land animals, especially predators. The reason they attack the humans in the bird cage is because of malnutrition and captivity related stress.
Question: How exactly did Ynyr die? When he visits the Widow of the Web, he makes it safely to her without being attacked by the crystal spider. He even uses the sand from the hourglass to stop the spider from attacking him. But, when he makes his way back to where everyone's camping, he dies after telling Colwyn where the Black Fortress will appear.
Question: What are the chances of four guys of their age ACTUALLY passing the physical to the required standards? I know they all kept reasonably fit but they struggled with running etc. so it seems unlikely they would pass all the tests. I know movie rules dictate suspense of disbelief to a certain degree, I'm just wondering what their chances would be in reality.

Chosen answer: It wasn't a matter of how physically fit they were, but that their particular combination of knowledge, skills, and past experiences were needed for this specific mission. The physical criteria would be amended in order to recruit them for that mission.
They were specifically told they wouldn't be given an easier ride and would need to pass the exact same tests as the younger astronauts. The physical criteria wouldn't have been amended to suit them so is it possible for 4 guys of this age to pass?
Remember that at some point in the process it became a political issue - the old cowboys were wanted for their PR value, so physical test results would have been "fudged", if not ignored altogether.
Agree that the physical requirements were a major plot point and part of the 'deal' for the team to go, but there was some relaxing of requirements and politics. In general, the answer is YES, old folks can go to space without major fudging of the requirements as was demonstrated by lots of astronauts in their late 50s, a few in their 60s, and John Genn at 77. Just recently an 82-year-old woman flew on Jeff Bezos' tourist rocket.
