Continuity mistake: There is a scene after Tony came up with the idea for the fake movie and presented it to the CIA, where he is looking at papers under a magnifying glass. Tony is holding his cigarette in his left hand under the magnifying glass. The very next shot shows his face, and he suddenly has the cigarette in his mouth. Question: "I call it Earl Jr. Likes to hang out with Daddy." When Earl says this, he is referring to the gun he pulls out at the coke factory, and uses it throughout the movie. It is an awesome little gun, and appears to be an automatic pistol of some sorts and has a flashlight attached to the front. Does anybody know what kind of gun that is?

Plot hole: When Astrid gets on Toothless for the first time, Toothless takes off uncontrollably and tries to scare her. Hiccup seems to have no control over him at this time. How is that so if with the new tail fin, Toothless cannot fly without Hiccup's precise control of the tail fin? That whole sequence would have fallen apart. This mistake was even admitted to on the DVD commentary. (00:53:35)

Question: What is the gender of the giant dragon? Astrid refers to it as the Queen, but Hiccup calls it a he and him several times in their battle with it. The movie is not clear if the dragon is male or female, and the sites I searched about it were just as cryptic. So what is the gender of the giant dragon?
Chosen answer: It is never mentioned. but Astrid only used the term queen as a reference to ants' or bees' hive minds, so as it's referred to as a he every other time, we can assume it's male.

Continuity mistake: After Toothless and Hiccup defeat the giant dragon, Stoick finds Toothless on the ground and believes his son to have perished in the battle. As he is kneeling down and beginning to morn, the rest of the Vikings begin to emerge from the smoke behind him. They are a good distance away from Stoick. Trivia: In the scene after Hiccup finally gets Toothless' new tail fin to work, and the two are relaxing after they fly through the fire ball, the two are greeted by a group of tiny dragons. This little dragon was actually what Toothless was originally going to be, as he was in the book, until they changed him to a dragon big enough for Hiccup to ride to suit the movie. (00:46:15)
