Ahsoka (2023)

Part Eight: The Jedi, the Witch, and the Warlord - S1-E8

Question: At one point after the zombie troopers are attacking them, the trio back down a hallway and are working on closing a door. Suddenly, some more zombie troopers attack Ezra from a hallway off to the side. These could not have been any of the previous troopers they just fought from the other direction that got turned to zombies. So where did these new zombie troopers come from? Is that a mistake? There's also the big tough zombies they fight up top a bit later, so was there already more? (00:22:04)

Fantastic Four (2005)

Question: After the cosmic storm hits the space station and affects the 5 people on board, the next scene is Ben suddenly waking up in a hospital. Ben, Reed, Sue, Johnny, and Victor are the only 5 people on the station, and they would all have been affected by the storm. Unless it's supposed to be that only Ben was knocked out. How exactly did the team get rescued and brought back to Earth? Were they all knocked out or just Ben?

Answer: When we see the rest of the team getting hit by the cosmic storm, you can see they are still awake; Sue even is shown pushing through the storm to get to Reed and Johnny. Plus, Victor was behind the shields and trying to protect himself from the sparks and rays, so we can assume he flew the ship back to Earth.

Interesting. I'm mostly asking because in the video game adaptation of this movie, for which I'm doing mistakes, after the opening mission, every one of these characters wakes up for the first time after the space station in the hospital, in bed with powers. I know the game has to play fast and loose with things, but in that version of events, it's implied that all of them were knocked out and then woke up down on Earth in the hospital. So it could be a plot hole for the game version.

Sounds like it, or at least the game designers took some liberties with it. But that does happen with games based on movies; the Spider-Man game for the 2002 movie was nothing like the film.

Can't the ship simply have an auto-return in case of emergencies? I mean, it's not your everyday space shuttle. In a lot of cases, it's controlled by AI too and, usually, Reed Richards built it.

Good point, but this is based on the 2005 film, and AI wasn't anything like it is today. Also, it was Victor Von Doom's shuttle, not Reed Richards. Von Doom was all about money, so his tech may have had shortcuts.

Well, the whole tech in the movie isn't anything like it is today. Surely Von Doom, though not Richards but also a genius, would have some AI running his ship.

Maybe so, but they were not on the shuttle. They were on the space station, so if the storm knocked them out, they still wouldn't have made it to the shuttle.

Only Ben was knocked unconscious because he was directly hit by the storm; everyone else had some level of protection from the station's shields. Sue was, in fact, alert, as we saw her eyes open when she was going to help Reed and Johnny after she was hit by the rays.

Answer: Johnny was not only awake but also the pilot; he flew the shuttle back and forth. Ben was co-pilot and did the heavy lifting only.

Alien: Earth (2025)

Question: In the ship, just after Kirsh tells the hybrids to gear up and get ready, Slightly and the black guy are joking around with each other and annoy Wendy by not keeping her brother a secret. In this moment, there's a squeaking sound that starts, like the sound of a chain moving back and forth or something. And then it continues into the next scene for a few seconds. Is that part of the music? (00:10:00)

General questions

There's an animated movie I used to watch as a kid, but I can't remember what it was called or exactly what it's about. I think I used to have it on VHS. The only thing I really remember about it is there was a frog who was a James Bond-like secret agent, and they called him FR07 instead of 007. And he was French. I've been racking my brain trying to remember what the movie was called, and I don't know how old it is. I just know I watched it as a kid. Anybody know?

Answer: It was the 1992 film "Freddie as F.R.O.7."

Ah, thank you very much! Yeah, that's it. I remember that movie from when I was a kid.

Andor (2022)

Episode 11 - S1-E11

Question: The aliens that capture Andor and the other escaped prisoner in the web gun at first are talking about turning them in for money or killing them. They talk about then poisoning the water with the prisons. Hard to understand them, and Andor begs them to be let go. Then suddenly, the two aliens are not only letting Andor and his friend go, but they let them take their ship. We're confused and don't understand why they suddenly helped Andor and let him take the ship.

Answer: I agree that the aliens' motivation is not clear, and this may all be a writer's shortcut to get Andor and Melshi on to the next part of the story. But I believe they are very disgruntled with the Empire, and I suspect they may be pretending to be more hostile than they really are, just to wind Andor and Melshi up. So - with no other evidence - I think they give up their ship because it messes with the Empire, it helps some mistreated prisoners escape, and the aliens have nothing better to do than walk back to their homes.

Prisoners (2013)

Question: Detective Loki, at several points in the movie, is shown blinking really hard a couple of times. Is this a nervous tick of sorts?

Answer: Yes, it was part of Jake Gyllenhaal's contributions to the character to express his bottled-up emotions and inner conflict.

Predator: Killer of Killers (2025)

Question: In the World War 2 segment of this film, a Predator pilot starts having aerial dogfights with a bunch of WW2 fighter planes. There's no subtlety about it at all, and it shoots down several and even chases the main hero through an active battlefield. Is this not very out of character for a Predator to make such a public display like that?

Answer: At best, it's a cool trivia. As a mistake, it's very thin, considering we don't know if it could be documented at all. For all we know, this was a city or area laid to ruins with no survivors, either by bombs or the Predators (as we know, they like to clean up their mess with MOABs). It's all just speculation. But I understand what you are thinking, and personally, I didn't enjoy that scene.

Answer: Yes, the way we are used to seeing the Predators portrayed, this is very much out of character. We are used to seeing them as stalky hunters lurking unseen. However, this scene could have been added as a cool dramatic effect. Or the Predators have other ways of earning their "badges," i.e., aerial battles like this.

Indeed, but would this be considered a mistake as it's very lore-breaking with how a Predator would behave? And considering it's WWII era, and set in the same continuity as the other films, it should have been something documented or mentioned in later stories. Especially Predator 2 when Peter Keyes is talking about their activity he's been tracking. And we know from the newly altered ending to the film that Predator 1 and 2 are both canon in this timeline with Arnie and Danny Glover.

Mystery Men (1999)

Question: At one point, Blue Raja mistakenly says that Bowler's father's name was Sal, which she immediately corrects as being Carmine. I never caught this till now after watching a recent animated Batman movie, but two of the big mob bosses that are rivals in Batman are Sal Maroni and Carmine Falcone. Considering the influences of this movie, is this intended to be a reference to the two Batman mob bosses?

Answer: Possibly, but it's more likely these are just stereotypical Italian names that the writers chose.

Answer: It's Alan Shearman.

Answer: According to IMDb, it's John Viener.

How is that possible? This episode aired in 2001 and Viener didn't join "Family Guy" until 2005.

Viener voiced Stallone in a season 4 episode. According to IMDb, Alan Shearman played him in this episode.

Answer: It's never really specified, but the poles were most likely a way of going from deck to deck for engineering crew.

General questions

I see a lot in movies, where people will be walking or going around in sewers with rats. Almost always these rats are shown to have no fear at all and almost ignore the people completely. Yet if you see a rat in your house, it's going to run from you like a mouse I believe. So is this really accurate to show rats having no fear of people when down in the sewers?

Answer: Rats, being much larger than house mice, have less fear. Given that they likely go to the surface to scavenge for food, they are likely used to being around people.

Family Guy (1999)

Season 1 generally

Question: I've been watching through Season 1, and haven't gotten further than that yet while paying attention. But any time there is a scene in the kitchen when them at the table, Stewie is always seated in the same spot at the table with his char having its back to the cabinet next to the sink. On the counter top directly behind Stewie in each episode, there is a pink rectangular item sitting there, and I have seen it in every episode of season 1. What is that item? Is it a sponge or a scrub thing? Why is it pink?

Answer: It is just a dish sponge. Scotch-Brite sells pink sponges. There's no particular reason it's pink, it could just show Lois likes pink or one of the animators grew up in a home that always had a pink sponge.

Groundhog Day (1993)

Question: This might be a silly question but it did puzzle me just a little bit. The old man in the film, when Phil first starts to care for him he starts referring to him as Dad and Pops. Is there supposed to be any actual relation between them, or is he just referring to him as this as sort of a kind title?

Answer: I think he is just using them as terms of elderly respect. It would be pretty callous even for Phil to completely disregard the homeless man at the beginning of the film if he was some sort of relative. The old man also does nothing to indicate a shared history between them.

It was a common term that was often used in the early-to-mid 20th century where a kindly, older man would affectionately be referred to as "Pops." In movies of that era, there was often a minor character referred to in this way, particularly if no-one knew his name (i.e. the stage doorman, the custodian, etc).

Inglourious Basterds (2009)

Question: When the dynamite goes off in the theatre, destroying it, there is a shot of a woman being blown out of the top window of the building screaming for a brief moment. Who was that woman and how did she get there? It couldn't have been Shosanna as she was very dead from being shot before that moment. And it wasn't the translator for Goebbels either for the same reason. Most everybody else was in the theater room or the balcony's themselves. So who was that woman?

Answer: I'm not entirely sure it's a woman. I slowed the scene down and the person looks like they are wearing a tuxedo. So probably a man with a high-pitched voice/scream. My best guess is that it is one of the attendees who may have excused themselves from the auditorium before all the doors were locked, and once the fire and massacre started, they were running through the corridor unable to escape and were eventually thrown out of the window by the explosion.

Another Life (2019)

Through the Valley of Shadows - S1-E2

Question: Spoiler alert! At the end of the first episode, Ian attacks Niko with a knife. In self defence, she round house kicks him into an electrical current that kills him. She was reacting out of self defence and he struck first. With that being the case, why in the second episode is she not explaining that to the rest of the crew? She simply says he was a threat to the crew and she killed him... Leaving out completely that it was self defense and he attacked first. Why? It started causing tension immediately with some of the crew ready to turn on her for murder. Why didn't she just tell them he attacked her first and she defended herself?

Answer: First, it should be pointed out that Ian didn't actually attack Niko. He had a knife, made a vague threat about not being as magnanimous as she was to him, and did raise the knife after approaching her, but she kicked him first. But the crew had already mutinied against her. The way I see if, she wanted to make sure the crew thinks she was willing to kill anyone who was a threat to the mission. Whereas if she claimed self defense she would either look weak or a look like a liar.

The crew members that followed Ian might not believe he would try to attack for no reason. She had no marks on her, so if she claimed he attacked her first, she would be lying. Most of the crew that was awake already mistrusted her, so claiming self defense at that moment wouldn't make them start trusting her.

Answer: This is a mistake and should be listed as such.

If it can be verified as such, sure. It seems there was a conscious decision by the show makers to do this though.

Even if the writers deliberately turned the captain into an idiot, that doesn't stop it from being a mistake by making an extremely poor decision. There's absolutely no reason to make your crew distrust you when your actions were justified.

The Lion King (1994)

Question: Something I've wondered for a long time, and it might have been hinted at or addressed in one of these movies at some point but I've not actually seen them in a few years. After Simba runs away as a cub, and then is found a long time later as an adult by Nala, how much time had passed? How long was he living on his own with Timon and Pumbaa?

Answer: Applying real-world logic... when he leaves, he's likely a bit less than six months old based on his size and development. And when he returns, his development seems to line-up with about a 3-4 year-old lion. So he was probably gone somewhere in the range of 3 years. Maybe 4 if you really stretched it.

Mr. Mom (1983)

Question: After the scene where Jack convinces Kenny to give up his "woobie" for a couple days, he's in the kitchen and throws some noodle like things into a boiling pan. They immediately boil up and start to go in every direction soon looking like a mop head. What was it he threw in that pan and why did it react that way?

Answer: Deep-fried rice noodles. I believe they're known as cellophane noodles. That's actually how they react. You heat oil in a pan and when the noodles hit the oil they "explode" like what you see in the film.
