Star Trek

The Naked Time - S1-E5

Other mistake: In the Briefing Room, while Kirk is feeling the effects of the disease, Spock tells Scotty that he will call the restart formula in from the bridge. But just a moment later, Kirk enters the Bridge, and Spock is in the Engine Room working on the settings and formula with Scotty.

Suggested correction: Views of the tunnels made before the creature was wounded by Kirk and Spock appear almost perfectly smooth. It is explained that the creature exudes a powerful acid to dissolve the rock. This tunnel was made after the creature was wounded, so it is logical that the wounded portion of the creature would secrete less acid thus leaving an imperfection as the creature tunnels. This could be a case of incredible attention to detail by the set designer rather than an error revealed.

This correction is too much of a stretch to explain a perfect seam by the wounded Horta. Plus, if the Horta was secreting less corrosive substance, then that area would be less eroded, not more. If attention to detail was paid, then the area would have an outward seam, not an inward one.

Charlie X - S1-E3

Visible crew/equipment: After McCoy examines Charlie and they talk about how Charlie learned to talk by just listening to the ship's tapes, when Charlie stands up the two actors' marks can be seen on the floor - the short one for Charlie and the longer one for McCoy, where they both will stand momentarily. Suggested correction: This wasn't a continuous shot though, we just don't know where they get the insignia, it could have been in his pocket. Both Kirk and Sulu are on the planet's surface without their insignia. And when "evil" Kirk beams up, he too doesn't have it on, even though later he does.

The Cage - S1-E1

Plot hole: Pike says he doesn't want women on his bridge, Number One being the one and only exception, and he keeps ordering Colt off it. His apology to Number One indicates that A) he doesn't think of her as female, and B) she's the only exception to his rule. So how does he overlook the very female crew-woman seated at the science station? (00:06:55)

Charlie X - S1-E3

Continuity mistake: When Capt. Kirk and Charlie enter the turbolift heading for the bridge, Kirk is wearing one style of tunic and when the turbolift arrives on the bridge, Kirk is wearing a completely different tunic. (00:15:14)

The Cage - S1-E1

Visible crew/equipment: When the doctor is mixing the drink and Pike gets up off the bed to accept it, an equipment shadow sweeps across the left side of the screen. (00:03:55)

Tomorrow is Yesterday - S1-E20

Factual error: Towards the end of the show the Enterprise is leaving Earth orbit and heading towards the sun. We see the Earth diminish and the moon appear looking exactly as it does from Earth. From this angle we should be seeing the "dark side" of the moon, which looks completely different. (00:40:50)

The Enemy Within - S1-E6

Plot hole: Because of the magnetic ore on the work clothes of the man who beamed up, the transporter made duplicates of everything put through it, and so couldn't be used. This was further complicated by the control and power circuits being blasted by the "evil" Kirk. However, the ship carries a number of shuttle craft, which no-one mentions.

Revealing mistake: Just after Kirk stuns Crater with his phaser, he gets up to get to Crater, when he does he bumps into a heavy stone monument,a prop that shakes visibly on contact. (00:36:58)

The Enemy Within - S1-E6

Continuity mistake: All during the episode there are scratches on the left cheek of the "evil" Kirk. When the "Good" Kirk and the evil Kirk confront each other on the bridge, there's a shot where the scratches are on the right cheek of the evil Kirk.

The Naked Time - S1-E5

Character mistake: Lt. Joey said to Lt. Sulu "You don't outrank me and you don't have pointed ears" but Joey is a junior grade lieutenant so Sulu would outrank him.

The Cage - S1-E1

Revealing mistake: When the laser cannon starts firing at the Talosian rockface, a styrofoam block falls and rolls away on the left side of the screen. After a brief shot of the crew, we see the cannon still firing, and the exact same block falls and rolls off screen on the left again. (00:30:15)

Mudd's Women - S1-E7

Continuity mistake: As the women are beaming aboard in the transporter room, McCoy's uniform switches from the standard blue tunic to his short-sleeved medical smock and back again between shots. (00:05:55)

The Naked Time - S1-E5

Revealing mistake: As the bridge crew monitors Psi 2000 on the view screen, a glitch in the special effects matte makes the planet vanish briefly and then reappear - twice. (00:12:30)

Charlie X - S1-E3

Other mistake: Spock and McCoy have a brief argument over whether Charlie could have survived on his own all those years. Because they're talking at the same time, Spock saying "Doctor" as McCoy says "Mr. Spock," the closed captioner apparently misunderstood McCoy's line. The caption has him calling Spock "Dr. Spock." The Man Trap - S1-E2

Continuity mistake: When Rand brings Sulu the plate of food, it has a bowl of colored cubes on it. Then there's a cut to a close-up of Sulu eating the cubes when Green is staring at it, and the bowl is now a plate. Then in the long shot it's a bowl again. (00:24:22)

Journey to Babel - S2-E10

Amanda: And you, Sarek, would you also say thank you to your son?
Sarek: I don't understand.
Amanda: Well, for saving your life.
Sarek: Spock acted in the only logical manner open to him. One does not thank logic, Amanda.
Amanda: Logic, logic - I'm sick to death of logic! Do you want to know how I feel about your logic?
Spock: Emotional, isn't she?
Sarek: She has always been that way.
Spock: Indeed? Why did you marry her?
Sarek: At the time, it seemed the logical thing to do.

What Are Little Girls Made Of? - S1-E8

Question: When the Enterprise is in orbit, it uses the Impulse engines to maintain orbit. The Impulse engines are located on the back (aft) of the primary saucer. Why were these not on or lit up? Unless they're using gravity, but there are the familiar engine sounds.

Movie Nut

Chosen answer: If they're in orbit, they're being pulled along by the planet's gravity well, therefore, impulse engines would only be used for minor corrections and would be "on standby" while in orbit, but not active. (Like keeping your car idling without revving the engine and creating plumes of exhaust).
