Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox mistake picture

Continuity mistake: When Flash zooms into the Flash Museum, he circles around a statue of himself and stops back in front of it. The statue's decapitated head is shown approximately 6 to 9 feet away from him, and there is only a little bit of debris around his feet. The shot cuts to some explosive tops landing at his feet and suddenly he is much closer to the statue's head, being now about 2 or 3 feet away from it, and there is much more debris around his feet. Factual error: Young Barry discovers the murder scene of his mother and stands in shock in the doorway. The light fades showing the transition from day to night and there are forensic scientists around the scene and cops analyzing it and asking people questions. Barry is still shown there at the door watching as his mother is put into a body bag. The police would not have kept him there to see that and would have taken him away to be questioned as soon as the place became a crime scene. Barry would most likely have been the one to call the police about the murder, meaning he would have had to return to that spot, so the police would have taken him away. And even if someone else called and Barry stayed in that exact same spot, trauma councilors would have been called to come and take him away for counseling. Either way, Barry would not have still been at the scene at this time. (00:01:45)

Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox mistake picture

Continuity mistake: After Young Barry's mom grabs him by the shirt, the camera angle shows their broken down car by the road. A few shots later as Barry takes off running towards the gas station, the distance between the road and the car has increased by about double. The patches of grass around the car also change around between shots. (00:00:55)

Continuity mistake: Attempting to hitchhike, young Barry is running along the side of the road yelling at a car passing by. One shot shows his feet next to the road for several seconds with him not passing buy anything. The next shot is him running away from the camera, followed by a close up of his face as he runs. During this time, he never passes a vehicle or anything but open road to his left. Yet his mom suddenly reaches her hand out from off camera and grabs him, and the shot cuts to a wide angle and suddenly he and her are standing just a few feet away from their broken down car. Yet Barry was running along several yards of clear road and never passed anything. The car and his mother just appeared. (00:00:15)

The Simpsons (1989)

Chosen answer: Since Lisa is called blonde and Bart "tow-headed, " I think we are meant to assume that their hair is simply bright yellow, the same color as their skins. And it is an accepted fact in Springfield that yellow is a normal skin color.

Actually, in the episode, "No Loan Again, Naturally", Bart says that while staying inside the house for days, his hair was reverting to its natural red. He was worried that the kids would call him 'Rusty'.

Answer: In one episode, Bart and Lisa get their hair cut at a salon, so we can assume it is normal hair, just identical to their skin color.

The Simpsons (1989)

Chosen answer: In general, no. However, in the episode "Behind the Laughter," Lisa comments about how Homer fed her anti-growth hormones to prolong the run of the show. Chronological events do occur, such as birthdays (which all of the characters have had in various episodes), and several episodes include flashbacks and peeks into the future. However, for the most part, the characters remain in a chronological stasis.

Ling Bouvier is one character who has aged.

Dan23

Yes, I've noticed that, too. Also, Apu's nephew has aged quite a bit.

The Simpsons (1989)

Show generally

Question: So far as I can tell, there is progression of time in the series and there being a continuity and history, now stretching 23 years. So why do none of the characters ever age? Maggie has been a baby for 23 years now.

Quantom X

Chosen answer: No character has really aged. The show is on a sliding time line. Bart will forever be 10, and Lisa 8 for as long as the show is on the air.

MasterOfAll

Ling Bouvier is one that has aged.

Bug: On one of the Naboo surface levels, Panaka is standing beside a door way leading to a small encampment of droids and tanks. Usually, just a few friendly fire shots will kill Panaka and you fail the mission. But some times, inexplicably, he becomes totally invincible in that same spot. You can shoot, blow up, and ram into him all you want, but the little guy is unhurt.

Bug: In the final level of the game, not including the secret levels, where Bravo Squadron is assaulting the Droid Control ship, the game will often freeze for unknown reasons at random times during this level. This makes it a bit difficult to finish the game.

Trivia: The 3 cities in this game actually represent and are supposed to loosely mirror 3 real cities. Los Santos is Los Angeles, California. San Fierro is San Francisco, California. And Los Venturas is Las Vegas, Nevada.

General questions

In movies where a giant being is attacking smaller beings, why is it that the giants always seem to be moving so slowly? Happens in video games often as well.

Quantom X

Chosen answer: Firstly, giants are heavy, really heavy. If you double the height of an individual, simple maths indicates that their volume, and thus their mass, multiplies by a factor of eight. So anything huge is going to have a hell of a lot of mass to move around. Secondly, in order for a giant to appear to move at what we would consider normal human speeds, they would actually have to move their body at a much higher velocity than normal. Say, for example, that a human, walking fast, takes two paces every second. A giant ten times the size, in order to appear to be moving at human-normal speeds, would also have to be taking the same two paces per second. Given the ten-times-longer stride length, this would translate to the giant's limbs moving at ten times the velocity of the humans, with a correspondingly much higher acceleration and deceleration. Given the increase in mass (a giant ten times the height of a human would possess a thousand times the mass) and the need for much higher acceleration, basic physics (Force = Mass x Acceleration) dictates that the amount of force required to move at what would appear to be a normal speed is staggeringly higher than that required for a normal-sized human; ten times the acceleration and a thousand times the mass requires ten thousand times the force. While our theoretical ten-times-larger giant would have a thousand times the muscle volume, in order to apply the necessary force, those muscles would still have to operate at ten times the capacity of normal muscles to give the appearance of normal movement. Obviously in the case of fictional giants, that sort of muscular efficiency isn't out of the question (they are fictional, after all), but most creators recognise on some level that there's a certain implausibility there, and thus the image of the slow-moving giant has become an indication of something really big. And while their movements may appear slow, their increased size means that their actual movement speed is still likely to be considerably higher than human norms, so the slowness is somewhat misleading anyway.

The Scorn of the Star Sapphire! - S3-E5

Question: It was said in another answer that the ring Star Sapphire has uses the power of love, which makes sense in this episode as her human from, Carrol, is in love with Hal Jordan. However, when Star Sapphire takes over and replaces Carrol's mind, she demonstrates nothing but hate and anger towards Hal Jordan/Green Lantern. So how can she use her powers with the opposite emotions?

Quantom X

Chosen answer: The Star Sapphires are agents of the Zamarons, the female species of the Guardians of the Universe, they are enemies of the Green Lanterns, which is why Carol has anger toward Hal. It should also be mentioned that the further a ring is from the center of the "The Emotional Spectrum", the more control the ring has over the user.

Teen Titans (2003)

Show generally

Question: In several series/movies, Cyborg is shown as part of the Justice League. He is part of it when it Justice League is first formed as shown in the upcoming movie, Justice League: War. though in that one he is made only a day or so before. Usually he is a grown man in he Justice League. Yet here he is in the Teen Titans. Is it supposed to be that Cyborg joins the Justice League after he leaves the Teen Titans?

Quantom X

Chosen answer: In recent years, the comics introduced Cyborg as a member of the Justice League. This was after his many years as a Teen Titan. In the rebooted DC Universe (known as the New 52) Cyborg is a founding member of the Justice League, and was never a part of the Teen Titans.

Question: When the Hydra men are using their weapons, the sound of them charging is the same sound effect used in the Iron Man movies where he his charging his arch reactor pulses. Is there any relation between these technologies?

Quantom X

Chosen answer: While not explicitly spelled out in the films to date, it's implied that Howard Stark developed the arc reactor technology after extensive study of the Tesseract that he retrieved from the ocean floor at the end of the movie. As such, Hydra's Tesseract-powered weaponry and the arc reactor-powered systems in the Iron Man suits share something of a common origin, hence the similar sound.

Tailkinker

Chosen answer: A couple of techniques were used. In most cases, Evans would film the scene normally, then the effects team would digitally shrink his character down to the smaller size. This would generally require some on-set adjustment to allow for eyelines - in some cases Evans would be physically lower than other actors, in others, they would look at his upper chest while he looked over their heads. In a few cases, actor Leander Deeny, who possessed the necessary scrawny physique, would film the scene, collaborating closely with Evans to ensure that the character's mannerisms remained the same. Deeny's features would then be digitally replaced with those of Chris Evans. Deeny appears briefly in the movie as the bartender in the pub Rogers visits to recruit his team.

Django Unchained (2012)

Question: Candie tells Shultz the deal is not final until they shake hands, as is tradition in the South, and without the hand shake, the legal documents are void. Was this actually how it was back then, or was Candie just doing that to further get under Shultz's skin?

Quantom X

Chosen answer: Since it would be rather difficult to prove in a court of law whether a handshake had been performed or not before video cameras had been invented, no, there was no enforceable law about handshakes being required to make a contract legal. However, it was likely a very strong and respected tradition.

Django Unchained (2012)

Revealing mistake: Before confronting Stephen, Django shoots Candie's sister. He is up high on the stairs with her on the first floor. He is far to her right. But when he shoots her, she flies straight backwards into the other room, and you can see where her dress was pulled by a rip line.
