Continuity mistake: In the DADA class, when Lupin puts the needle on the horn gramophone disc to start the music, the position of his hand and the needle in the close-up differs greatly than in previous and following shots. Throughout the scene the gramophone and its horn's position differ in consecutive shots as well. (00:40:30)

Continuity mistake: After Neville's Snape/Gran Boggart, Lupin says, "Wonderful...to the back Neville. Everyone form a line." In the next two shots, first Neville heads to the back, then Malfoy shoves Neville to the side and Crabbe pushes the line of kids forward. Yet in the next shot from the front of the line, Neville already stands at the back of the line and then in the next shot, Neville walks towards the back of the line, where more kids are gathered now. Revealing mistake: In the first overhead shot as the Dementors swoop down towards Sirius and Harry, Sirius lies in a particular position. During the Dementor attack his clothes move, then after Harry's Patronus repels the Dementors, Sirius breathes again and he now lies flat. After Harry collapses, in the last overhead shot, Sirius and his clothes lie in precisely the same position as the first overhead shot. His position differs later, in the repeat timeline as well. Continuity mistake: When Aunt Marge's chair starts to float up, in the close-up of her legs, her feet are at least a foot off the ground and the chair even more. However, after her necklace pops, Vernon yells, "Down boy!" at Ripper, she lets go of the table and in the next wide shot, her feet are still well under the table and the chair is still touching the floor - this shot is spliced from the earlier shot, just after Ripper first bites Vernon's foot! Other mistake: While Hermione and Ron watch, cloaked Harry starts up with Malfoy and his two friends as they all stand in the snow. Most noticeable in the wide shot, when Harry spins the Slytherin boy, although the boy's feet visibly disturb the snow, Harry's feet do not make a mark - no footprints whatsoever. (01:02:30)

Continuity mistake: Harry moves closer to Snape at the Shrieking Shack, as he points his wand at the professor. In the first two shots Snape stands closer to the door, yet in the close-up as the spell hits he is farther from the doorway, so he can easily fly backwards for the stunt. (01:34:00)

Revealing mistake: At the Shrieking Shack, when Harry shouts, "Expelliarmus!" there is a nice close-up of Snape and it is obviously not Alan Rickman flying backwards onto the bed. (01:34:00)

Other mistake: After receiving the new Firebolt Harry runs outside to use it. In the close-up as he takes off and in the next wide shot many of the students' eyes are not in sync with Harry's flight. (02:09:15)

Continuity mistake: At the start of Hagrid's lesson, he coughs and says, "Ta-daa!!" for all to see Buckbeak. In the next wide shot Goyle stands at the back and his hood and robe lie flat. In the next close-up Goyle's hood is positioned completely differently, then in the next wide shot it's flat again. (00:33:20)

Continuity mistake: When Vernon holds Marge's hands as she floats up, in the shot just before she yells, "Don't you dare!" Dudley stands behind Petunia with the napkin hanging from his collar. After she floats away screaming, in the close-up of Dudley the napkin stains differ and it now has a glob of white cream which he promptly wipes off and eats. (00:05:40)

Continuity mistake: When the stone hits Harry, the very first time, in the shot inside Hagrid's, he yells, "Ow!" and as he turns the blue cup touches the wood tray. In the next exterior shot, the blue cup is closer to the birdcage. (01:24:55)

Revealing mistake: While he sits by the Whomping Willow, Ron shouts, "Harry, Hermione, run! It's the Grim!" When Sirius the dog runs toward them, in the shot facing Harry and Hermione, their eyes are not quite in sync with the dog before it leaps. (01:28:00)

Continuity mistake: In Divination, as Trelawney says, "The art of crystal gazing is in the clearing of the Inner Eye... Now what do we have here?" Ron sleeps with his elbow at the books in front of him and then wakes. In the next shot the books are between him and Hermione. (01:19:15)

Audio problem: Near the Shrieking Shack, when Malfoy says to Hermione, "How dare you talk to me! You filthy little mudblood!" cloaked Harry whomps him with a snowball. In the next wide shot, Crabbe visually asks, "Who is that?" though no sound is heard. (01:02:15)

Continuity mistake: When Malfoy and his friends bother Ron and Hermione, Harry shows up and messes with the three boys. He grabs hold of Malfoy's feet, lifts them in the air and pulls him across the snow. In the first close-up of the soles of Malfoy's boots, not a speck of snow is on them, though he was just walking in it. Then in the next close-up, his feet still in the air, the soles are now covered in snow. (01:02:45)

Revealing mistake: After Harry's first ride on Buckbeak during Hagrid's class, before Buckbeak cuts Malfoy's arm with his talon, when Malfoy holds his arm over his face, the pre-cut and ripped sleeve is visible in this close-up. (00:37:55)

Continuity mistake: During Hagrid's class, when Malfoy stands before Buckbeak as the Hippogriff rears up, in the wide shot facing Buckbeak, Malfoy lifts HIS left arm with his right arm still down at his side. However, in the next close-up facing Malfoy, HIS right arm is now lifted high up. (This has nothing to do with camera angles.) (00:37:55)

Continuity mistake: As Harry reaches Lupin's office, Lupin stands by the bookcase and the front end of the valise under the desk points towards the right. However, when Lupin says, "No, no, I resigned," the front end points the opposite way. Then when Harry walks to the doorway, it's the same way as the first shot. (02:06:10)

Continuity mistake: When Harry lifts the lid in the Honeydukes cellar, in the first shot there are two gold pots, small and large, beside the table directly in front of him. Of course in the next shot, as the man climbs the stairs, only the short gold pot is beside that table. In the next shot, as Harry climbs out, the two pots' positions differ. (01:00:45)

Continuity mistake: When Harry climbs out of tunnel into Honeydukes, the boxes on the stairs are straight up against the wall, including the box with the lollypops on the fifth stair. However, in the next shot from above, the box is farther from the wall for the effect. (01:01:00)
