Continuity mistake: When Pippin gets up from his cot in the corner, in the wide shot the fur rugs between his and Merry's cot are two light browns and a black in between and there is a black rug in front of Gimli's cot. Yet when Aragorn comes in and takes hold of the palantir, in this shot the black fur rug at the foot of Pip's cot is gone. In the next shot the black rug in front of Gimli's cot is gone and the rug that the palantir rolls onto when out of Aragorn's grasp now faces the opposite way than when Pippin first awoke and walked toward Gandalf. Continuity mistake: Before Merry asks, "What are you doing?" in this wide shot Pippin heads towards Gandalf and walks in the very narrow area between the center cots and the cots against the walls. Yet, when Aragorn walks in and also in the close-up as the palantir rolls out of Aragorn's hand, the area between the cots has significantly widened from the original width, note the floor pattern, for the obvious dramatic shot! Continuity mistake: At the bank, in the close-up of her legs Nana knocks Wendy off her feet and she lands parallel to Nana. In the next close-up of her face Wendy falls back again. Then in the next close-up Wendy falls perpendicularly to Nana. (00:09:20)

Revealing mistake: When John thrusts his sword at Wendy and she ducks, the sword lands between the books causing them to topple forward, off the shelf. The books actually start to fall before the blade even touches them. (00:01:50)

Continuity mistake: Peter stands at the window and says, "Come away to Neverland." In the close-ups as his hands grasp the curtains, hardly any of the white curtain is seen under his grip. Yet in the wide shots there is much white curtain seen in his hands. (00:22:30)

Continuity mistake: As Peter hushes Wendy and explains, "...I shall never find her if she's dead," Wendy's bed is seen beside them. When Peter grabs hold of Tink and tosses her at Wendy's pillow, Wendy's blankets are positioned quite differently than the previous shot of it. (00:19:05 - 00:20:05)

Continuity mistake: When Aunt Millicent is speaking with Mr. and Mrs. Darling about Wendy, she is holding a wine glass with engraved etchings. The position of the markings vary when the camera faces her and when the camera faces the Darlings. (00:05:45)

Continuity mistake: When Peter tries to attach his shadow the toys, loose books and stacked books at Wendy's footboard differ in the following shots. Wendy exclaims, "You can fly!" and the books in the wardrobe are also seen and when she climbs out of bed the books in the wardrobe differ as well. Throughout this scene in subsequent shots these things differ, with no one touching them. (00:14:50)

Continuity mistake: The pirate hat hanging on John's foot board first faces him, then faces the camera, the toys on the floor in front of Michael's bed, etc., change position between the shots of Peter entering the nursery and when Aunt Millicent opens the bedroom door, even though no one moved anything between these shots. (00:13:00 - 00:14:20)

Continuity mistake: At Edoras, Aragorn's sword leans against the wall, significantly lower than the circular carving above it, as Pippin walks toward Gandalf. However, when Merry asks, "What are you mad?" the hilt now reaches near the top of the circular pattern. Then when Gandalf grabs the blanket to cover the palantir, the sword's height is the same as in the first shot. (00:19:45)

Audio problem: Peter tells Wendy, John and Michael, "There are mermaids! Indians! Pirates!" We hear the children repeat, "Pirates!" but their mouths do not actually say it. (00:22:45)

Continuity mistake: In the exterior wide shot, as Wendy opens the window of the nursery the curved window guard rail is seen being right up to the edge of the ledge below the window. In the shot from above as Wendy, John and Michael look up, the guard rail is not in this particular shot. (00:02:05)

Deliberate mistake: John yells, "I've got it! I've got it!" jumps onto his bed and we see the length of John's one blanket, mattress and bed frame near the other furniture. In the next two shots as John runs across his bed, the blanket at the foot of the bed is not only pulled all the way out, using what hung over the foot of the mattress in the previous shot, but another blanket is added for extra length. Most blatantly apparent is the span of this mattress and bed frame, to increase the running distance, in relation to the furniture around it. (00:21:35)

Continuity mistake: While Eowyn is with dying Theoden, after he says, "my body is broken" there is a black smudge over Eowyn's right eye in the next three shots, whereas it is not in the previous or following shots. (02:15:00)

Audio problem: As Gollum falls backwards toward the lava in Mount Doom, he holds the Ring in front of him and admires it. When he brings the Ring toward his torso, a distinct reverberating 'chinggg' sound is heard, as if it touched another metal. The Ring did not touch anything else, let alone another metal. This is obviously heard for dramatic flair. (02:43:40)

Deliberate mistake: Just before Frodo and Sam fall to the ground on the slopes of Mount Doom, there is a close-up of Sam's feet, then a shot of Frodo and Sam climbing up the rocky surface. This shot is obviously flipped, as Sting is at Sam's left side normally. (02:31:00)

Continuity mistake: While walking in Mordor, Sam yells "Frodo, get down!" and in the first wide shot Frodo turns his body towards Sauron's Eye as Sam drops down. In the next shot Sam is in the background, Frodo's arm is in the foreground and Frodo has not turned yet. Also, in the shot of him facing the Eye, Frodo's face and neck are cleaner than in the shots before and after. (02:28:55)

Revealing mistake: After entering Minas Tirith with Faramir and his men, Faramir stares at Pippin who sits in front of Gandalf. In Pippin's close-up, one of Gandalf's hands hold his staff and the other is on Pippin. These are not Ian McKellan's (Gandalf) hands and this occurs quite a few times throughout the film, as when Gandalf yells, "Fool of a Took" and places his hand on Merry's shoulder. McKellan's hands are seen many times in the film and among the differences; he has age spots (the actor is currently in his sixties) on his hands. (00:55:25)

Revealing mistake: At Edoras, Merry and Pippin sing the song about the Green Dragon while dancing on the table. When Merry kicks Gamling's mug of ale off the table, Merry's foot gets thinner and partially disappears in this shot as does Pippin's foot in the next shot as he kicks up. (00:13:55)

Continuity mistake: When the Rohirrim arrive at Minas Tirith, they are lined up in formation. In the first shot of Eowyn with Merry we see the rider's body to her left in line with her. In the next close-up of Merry we see the white horse's face right next to Merry, but in the next shot of Eowyn with Merry, the rider, whose horse is brown in these wide shots of Eowyn, is in line with her again. Then in another close-up of Merry, we see the horse's white face yet again. Also, in the shot from behind, that rider does not wear his helmet as in the rest of the side shots.
