Visible crew/equipment: When Blade takes Karen to the hideout, Whistler injects her and tells Blade, "I give her 50/50 if she makes it through the night." In the shot where he says this, look directly behind Blade (near the ground, next to the drawers), and you can see a piece of equipment (it looks like extra lighting, but it's hard to tell) being moved out of shot by an out-of-sight crew member. Apocalypse Now (1979)

Question: This may sound a little crazy to the uninitiated, but does anybody have an alchemical interpretation of Apocalypse Now? I remember seeing pages from Coppola's screenplay that were annotated and made reference to transmutation.

Jack Vaughan

Answer: It should be noted that "transmutation" is a word Coppola has used to describe the film making process. Https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=LFTQcwgq4CY.

Bishop73

Answer: Could you be a bit more specific? I can give a link to the screenplay if you wish. Http://www.dailyscript.com/scripts/apocolypse.html I hope that helps.

Question: Why did the tech company that manufactured David stay based in Manhattan? Considering that it's flooded. Seems a little impractical.

Jack Vaughan

Answer: The owner/inventor of the company may have kept the doors open in Manhattan to see if any of his products would return 'home'. He seemed to be very pleased that David had returned and was interested in finding out why. I got the feeling the AI's creator was hoping for a sign that the instinct to return was something novel and not just a predictable result of their original programming.

Suggested correction: I've re-watched this part several times on HBO Max. There is nothing visible above their heads at the 12:39 minute mark. There is a shadow on the wall that is boom mic shaped; however, it would be pure speculation to what it is since it is very briefly and no equipment is ever shown.

As they walk the shadow of the boom microphone is cast on one of the pillars (the pillar with the man leaning against it and holding a rifle). (00:28:32)

Jack Vaughan

Revealing mistake: When Ramón and his men massacre a detachment of Mexican soldiers by ambushing them with a Gatling gun, it's easy to tell that the soldiers are just pretending to be hit by bullets. There isn't a single bullet hole or drop of blood on any of the soldiers also in the wide shots not one horse is hit in the crossfire nor has the carriage been damaged by gunfire. (00:25:43)

Jack Vaughan

Visible crew/equipment: Near the end of the film, just after one of the soldiers is hit in the chest with a spear and falls overboard, there is a shot of another soldier (who is missing teeth) lying dead on the raft. If you look in the top left corner of the shot you can see the foot of a crew member wearing a modern trainer shoe. (01:22:42)

Jack Vaughan

Visible crew/equipment: Towards the end of the film, when a tree branch damages the straw roof of the raft as it passes under a tree, you can see a crew member stood watching filming behind Aguirre and his men who are trying to dislodge the branch. He's wearing a cap, a white shirt and blue pants. (01:22:12)

Jack Vaughan

Continuity mistake: In the close-up shot of the gunpowder casket on fire it is located on a relatively dry spot of the raft and is in partial sunlight however when the shot changes, for Aguirre to pick it up and throw it off the raft, you can see the area is now slightly submerged and no longer sunlit at all. (00:55:46)

Jack Vaughan

Continuity mistake: After the scene when Aguirre and his men raid the cannibal village they get back on the raft. Aguirre approaches Ursua, lying injured next to his wife, and stares him down. Ursua's wife then stands up to Aguirre and grabs his arm. The shot then changes to a different angle and suddenly the horse appears behind Aguirre so that he can walk into it unexpectedly as he turns around. (00:53:30)

Jack Vaughan

Visible crew/equipment: Near the beginning of the film, when the whole party is moving through the swamp, there is a moment when the carriage containing the two women almost topples over. If you watch the right side of the screen when this happens you can see a hand come into frame to help steady the carriage. The hand is white and sleeveless (at least to near the wrist) and obviously doesn't belong to any of the soldier's or slave's. On the Blu-Ray commentary track for the film, Werner Herzog states that this is his hand. (00:09:10)

Jack Vaughan

Other mistake: During the opening sequence there is a shot of a muddy river where we are shown the credits for Director of Photography, Camera, Sound, Film Editor etc. When "Camera" is credited there is a number 2 next to it, that is the order in which the credit appears, but none of the other credits are numbered. (00:06:20)

Upvote valid corrections to help move entries into the corrections section.

Suggested correction: That's not a mistake. Fransisco Joán and Orlando Macchiavello were second cinematographers (2. Kamera in the original German film credits).

Revealing mistake: In the opening scene, when the soldiers and slaves march down the mountain, as the carriage containing Aguirre's daughter passes by the camera, one of the soldier extras just behind the carriage looks directly at the camera. (00:03:38)

Jack Vaughan

Visible crew/equipment: After taking a beating, killing two guards and then setting fire to their compound, Joe (Clint Eastwood) is shown crawling away, and cast on Joe's body and the sand floor is the shadow of the camera as it pulls back from him (left side of screen). (01:13:47)

Jack Vaughan

Revealing mistake: When Clint Eastwood ambushes the two guards by crushing them with a large barrel you can see two extended rails have been added to either side of the ramp, presumably to help with the stunt. (01:11:20)

Jack Vaughan

Revealing mistake: During the prisoner exchange scene, when Marisol is told to move forward on her horse, if you look at the building behind her you can see it's a partially built set. Through the buildings window you can see the desert. (00:53:05)

Jack Vaughan

Visible crew/equipment: In the film's final moments, as the camera revolves around the raft, you can see the wake made by the camera boat on the river's surface. (01:32:49)

Jack Vaughan

Continuity mistake: When the soldier finds the other soldier dead, having been hanged from a tree by Indians, he panics and flees. Between shots the halberd weapon he was holding vanishes. (00:22:59)

Jack Vaughan

Revealing mistake: At one point when the soldiers are walking through the jungle, one of them steps into a trap and is pulled up into the trees to be killed by Indians. However, if you watch this scene carefully, when the soldier (who steps into the trap) walks into frame you can see a wire already attached to his foot leading up into the trees. He doesn't step into a trap. (00:22:26)

Jack Vaughan

Visible crew/equipment: When the news reporter is about to snort the cocaine, she stops her car, turns the radio off and takes the cocaine out. When she does this you can see the top of a crew member's head reflected in her car window. (00:09:23)

Coherence (2013)

Visible crew/equipment: After Emily attacks the "other Emily" in the bathroom, she leaves, and walks through a doorway to rejoin the rest of the group (just before she collapses). If you look at the alcove type doorway adjacent to the group you can see the head of the boom microphone slowly move into the shot then slowly move out again. (01:20:04)

Coherence (2013)

Visible crew/equipment: Near the beginning when everyone is sat at the dining table, Hugh asks if anybody other than him is having trouble getting reception on their mobile phones. Then there is a reaction shot of Emily and then another cut to Lee laughing and holding her glass of wine. In this shot of Lee you can see the living room behind her and if you pay attention you can see a crew member (possibly holding a camera) who appears to be crouched behind the sofa, raise his head into the shot. Only God Forgives (2013)

Continuity mistake: During the opening scene of the film we see two boxers fighting in Julian's boxing club. The fighter in red trunks knocks out the one in blue trunks and is announced the winner. Two men then come into the ring and, between shots, we see them pick up the loser off the floor twice. (00:02:51)

Coherence (2013)

Visible crew/equipment: When Kevin and Emily are alone in the dining room and Kevin asks her if she wants to go on a trip with him to Vietnam and Emily says she needs more time to think about it, you can see a cameraman sat on the other side of the table filming them. The filmmakers have tried to obscure him by placing a wooden table chair in the foreground but you can still see his arms/elbows between the chairs slats. (00:05:54)

Jack Vaughan

Stupidity: The murder during the opening scene is ridiculous. Angela chases a screaming woman down an alleyway, in broad daylight, in front of crowds of witnesses, while driving a truck, runs her over, then throws her body in the back of the truck and then waits right next to the alley where she murdered the girl to be picked up by the van headed to the camp. At no point did any one of the numerous people on the street try to help the girl or even just investigate the alley to see if she was hurt (supposing it was an accident) or just call the police?

Jack Vaughan

Continuity mistake: When Angela runs Maria over in the truck, the truck hits Maria, and she falls under it, then the truck takes a few more seconds to stop. Angela steps out the truck's cabin and walks around to the front of the truck to find Maria dead and sticking out in front of the truck, when she should be underneath it. (00:02:32)

Hawk the Slayer (1980)

Revealing mistake: During the showdown between Hawk and Voltan, Hawk frees Gort by cutting his ties, Gort then grabs his hammer and whacks the guard with it and punches another guard. If you watch the pillars you can see them wobble slightly when the guards' bodies make contact with them. (01:26:33)

Hawk the Slayer (1980)

Other mistake: When Voltan murders the nun who betrays the group, there are a number of errors in quick succession. First, he appears to stab her in the arm, judging from the position of his body to hers when he stabs her. Second, there is no trace of blood on the dagger when he holds it up a second later. Third, her body seems to have disappeared (or at least moved) when the camera changes to a wider shot a second later. (01:15:19)

Only God Forgives (2013)

Visible crew/equipment: After Julian finds out about his brother's murderer we see him washing his hands in a sink and the water turns to blood (indicating the start of another dream/subconscious sequence). Then Julian appears standing in a dark hallway outside an open door, something about the room scares Julian, and he walks away from the door. As the camera moves backwards down the hallway you can see its distinct blocky shadow cast on the wall. (00:27:08)

Revealing mistake: When Dormer fails to pursue Finch during the log chase scene, he climbs out of the water by a ladder. Hawk the Slayer (1980)

Continuity mistake: Throughout the film there are a number of obvious jump cuts which create glaring continuity errors. For example, when Hawk and Ranulf enter into the mystical gateway in the forest and then suddenly disappear (as they are supposed to have entered a separate dimension), the fog behind the gate suddenly changes pattern as they disappear, betraying the use of a jump cut.

Jack Vaughan

Revealing mistake: During the flashback sequence when Gunbei's double is decapitated, his severed head hits the floor but you can see that the actor's head is still inside his clothing. His top has been pulled over his head to make it look like his head has been cut off. It's even more obvious in the wider shot right after. (00:27:42)

Jack Vaughan

Revealing mistake: Throughout the film, whenever there is a close-up of the face of a male character, you can often see the stitching where their hairpiece is sewn into their real hair.

Jack Vaughan

Visible crew/equipment: When Cathy is being slowly drowned in the hot tub there is a shot were we see Braden's tattooed henchman playing around with his nunchucks and just above his head you can see a clear shadow of the boom mic dip into the shot and is then quickly pulled away again. (01:09:19)

Howl (2015)

Revealing mistake: When O-Yuki is having a flashback to the duel she had with her trainer, at one point he "magically" sets his sword on fire. However, if you watch the scene carefully you can see a cord that runs from the sword into his robes, probably some kind of fuel line. You can see it twice: once in a wide shot showing the trainer and O-Yuki when he laughs and slowly raises the sword and a second time when he blocks O-Yuki's attack and punches her in the stomach. (00:45:58)

Jack Vaughan

Revealing mistake: After defeating Gunbei in a duel, Itto is ambushed inside a temple. During the fight a number of the assassins have their arms cut off, however if you pay close attention you can see that they have just tucked their arms behind their backs. The shape is very clear in the clothing. This is most obvious during the shot of the two assassins dying on their knees and moaning, just before Itto executes them. (00:36:15)

Jack Vaughan

Visible crew/equipment: After defeating Gunbei in a duel, Itto enters a temple to pray to Buddha. As Itto walks to the altar the camera passes by a number of pillars and statues and the shadow of the camera is cast on them a couple of times. (00:34:24)

Revealing mistake: At the beginning of the film O-Yuki is fighting the men in the forest and kills them one by one. When she kills the last one there is a close-up shot of her dagger entering his rib area and blood sprays out. However, if you pay close attention you can see the blood sprays out of his sleeve (presumably there is a device in there), not his torso. (00:01:18)

Jack Vaughan

Continuity mistake: The blowdart pipe that Braden pulls out of his bag is totally different to the one he pokes through the slat of the curtain to kill his target. The one from the bag is bamboo and thick and the one he uses is black and much thinner. (00:26:26)

Dawn of the Dead (1978)

Revealing mistake: When Stephen is trying to climb out the elevator after having been shot, a group of zombies attack him and the first zombie we see bites his leg. In this closeup of Stephen's leg being bitten, the tube that pumps out the blood is protruding out his trousers, obviously leading up his thigh.

Sleepy Hollow (1999)

Continuity mistake: During the sequence where Ichabod and The Horseman are fighting on top of the carriage, it's quite obvious that the two horses Masbeth and Katrina are riding keep changing colour. Sometimes they are both dark brown but sometimes Katrina's is dark brown and Masbeth's is white.

Suggested correction: Some horse breeds, like an appaloosa, waere used in the film - like the horse 'Gunpowder'. They have darker colored front halves and legs while their back end is white. Most likely Gunpowder is one of the horses used in this scene. There is one shot, taken from the side of the horse during this chase segment, where you can see this marking, his front is dark and his back end is white. Horses aren't changing, just the camera angles on the horse.

Dog Soldiers (2002)

Other mistake: Near the end of the film when the remaining squaddies are attempting to blow up the barn, Spoony ruptures the tank causing petrol to spill out from underneath the car, then the Sarge lights the trail leading to car. However when Cooper is driving the car into the barn you can see in various shots of the car being driven across the grass towards the barn that there is no petrol spilling from underneath the vehicle, so the trail would have large gaps and the car wouldn't have been able to explode.
