Dismissed (2017)

Stupidity: In chemistry ("Greg's") class, Dylan teamed up with Alex so that he could cause an injury and be able to take his #1 spot on the chess team. The teacher tells the class they will be looking at alkaline metals under the microscope and to remember "alkaline metals are highly reactive, so proceed with caution." None of the students had goggles/ protective glasses, which are standard and required when doing such things in chemistry class. (00:14:55)

Other mistake: Mara uses a light underhand toss to throw a bottle (fifth) of alcohol maybe 10-15' to Special Agent Rosetti. When the bottle hits the rear window of Rosetti's car, the entire window shatters and little of the glass can be seen. A bottle of alcohol would not shatter a car window completely out. If anything, there might be a small crack where the bottle made impact. (01:12:20)

Echo Boomers (2020)

Revealing mistake: When the door is kicked in, it does not sound very loud or like a typical door smashing. An interior view shows the door is about half the width of a standard door and a 3-4' board can be seen falling vertically along the door frame/ wall (then disappears). Instead of hearing someone kicking open a door, the sound more accurately matches what happened: a thin door breaking through a board holding it closed! The "breaking in" scene also has some "stupidities." Stewart (without first trying to see if the door was not locked) uses a cordless drill on the door's lock and a second man then uses his right leg to kick it in (without first seeing if the drill unlocked the door). A third man brought a crowbar, which could have easily eliminated the need for someone to bring a drill or for one of the men to risk a foot/ leg injury by kicking open a door. (00:02:11)

Other mistake: Jack took Illinois licence plate "BL 91021" off a Subaru SUV to put on the group's truck and put "V 986394" on the Subaru. Illinois truck (< 8,000 pounds) plates have the letter "B" on the middle-right side of the plate. The "BL 91021" would have too many numbers to be valid. By putting a license plate starting with "V" on the SUV - without the letter "B" on the middle-right side - the SUV would not have a truck plate like it should (and would also have too many numbers to be valid). Echo Boomers (2020)

Factual error: TV reporters said "home invasions" and mentioned trying to find the people who were responsible for the "70 robberies." Lance (in prison), was talking to a woman who was going to write a book and told her he got "twelve years" for "fifteen counts of robbery and vandalism." The crime Lance and the rest of the group were committing fits the legal definition of "burglary" in Illinois (basically, entering an occupied structure with the intent to commit a felony or theft inside; the structure does not have to be occupied at the time of the act). Because there happened to be someone at home during their last (intended) "burglary", this offense would be classified as a "robbery."

Lean on Pete (2017)

Continuity mistake: The amount of "sweat" on Charley's T-shirt varies before/after his entrance into his house. While jogging, there is no visible sweat on his T-shirt, but there is sweat around the collar of his T-shirt when approaching the front door to his house. Once inside, Charley makes a "360" (turns completely around) at the door and his T-shirt is now wetter - around the neck and part-way down to his chest (V-shaped); his back also has a vertical oval-shaped area of wetness. As Charley approaches the refrigerator, the wetness on his back quickly disappears (the dark gray area becomes light gray like his T-shirt) and it looks obvious that it was being blow-dried (air was circulating underneath his T-shirt). Next, Charley walks to the sink, and there's a vertical line of "sweat" on his back and the wetness under his arms "grows" and becomes obvious. Real sweat makes a shirt cling to one's body, but this was not true for Charley's T-shirt. (00:03:12 - 00:04:04)

Passengers (2016)

Plot hole: Starship Avalon is supposed to be an extremely highly advanced spaceship with capabilities well beyond current technology. Because the pods are supposed to be "fail-safe"/fail-proof, no provisions whatsoever were made to detect a pod failure or sound an alarm - a severe "oversight" for the ingenious people/engineers behind its creation. There apparently are sensors everywhere to automatically activate certain things (e.g, doors, holograms) when a passenger or crew member enters or approaches yet some of the things the holograms said indicated they were preprogrammed to say certain things, even though those things weren't appropriate under the circumstances. For example, soon after Jim entered the room for Learning Group 38, a hologram said, "Hello, passengers. Will you all take a seat." Surely there would be a sensor to detect that all the passengers supposed to be present were or know that almost all were not! The holograms/androids could not respond to some anomalies.

Lena and Snowball (2021)

Trivia: The movie hardly looks as though it was set in Fitzgerald, Georgia. Fitzgerald's population is over 50% Black, about 40% of the residents live in poverty, its crime rate is high, and the median income is relatively low. Newcomers such as the Bickers may not have a "Southern drawl", but - surprisingly - neither did any of the natives in the movie. The Fitzgerald area isn't very large - less than ten square miles. Perhaps an attempt to avoid stereotypes at the expense of misrepresentation of the population?

Lena and Snowball (2021)

Revealing mistake: When "Snowball" is sleeping on Lena's bed, it is obviously a "stuffed double" (stand-in). Snowball is usually partially hidden behind the dog (so breathing doesn't need to be shown/mimicked). The failure of Snowball to make even a slight movement is a giveaway (e.g, no ear movement when Lena starts talking), but even the stuffed lion, in itself, is not a very good replica - it simply looks fake. Other mistake: Numerous students with large amounts of blood splattered on them from three students in the classroom "exploding" and others "popping" while going down the steps were able to go through the door - some rubbing their shirts against the doorframe and others touching the doorframe with their hands - without smearing blood on the door or frame. Revealing mistake: In the opening pre-calculus class, Mara bending over to the side of her desk is what enabled her to avoid being splattered when Kaitlyn - sitting in front of her - "exploded." It was also a cue that the "blobs of blood" were about to be strewn across the classroom. The boy seated at the last desk behind Mara moved his right hand up to his forehead (similar to how one would block sunlight) in anticipation of getting splashed with blood. After some of the "blood" landed on him, he quickly moved his hand away from his face. (00:00:35)

Plot hole: After the incident in Chemistry class, Adam was taken to the hospital where he was diagnosed with schizophrenia. Next, Adam found out that he was expelled from school. What happened during Chemistry class was attributed to Adam's "first psychotic break" - which would fall under a medical condition for which Adam could not have prevented or controlled. The Department Of Education has laws protecting students like Adam (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act or IDEA, enacted in 1975), and the school is required to meet the child's / student's needs. An Individual Education Program (IEP) should have been prepared for Adam by his school, so the expulsion served to further the plot. (00:06:00 - 00:06:30)

Continuity mistake: Mara's hair is inconsistent during the prom - the length and tightness of curls varies a few times. Most noticeably, the sides of her hair sometimes only reach her shoulders but other times look three or four inches longer (and this is not merely due to loosening of her curls). Passengers (2016)

Other mistake: Near the end of the movie, three birds were flying around the room where trees, vines, flower, shrubs, and grass were growing. There is no explanation for where the birds came from, why Jim would revive them from pods (if that's where the first ones were), or why holograms wouldn't detect them. More seriously, where did all the bird droppings (guano) land - without being removed for decades - and how did the uric acid not cause damage/corrosion to the ship? Also, the confined area would be a breeding ground for various possible diseases which could infect the passengers when they came out of their pods. The unplanned introduction of live birds on the spaceship would cause a variety of unintended problems, some deadly.

Other mistake: The way Katelyn exploded was described by Mara as being like a balloon popping. Every time a student exploded, blobs of blood (and tiny pieces of the body) splattered everywhere, making a huge bloody mess. When more than one student exploded going down the stairs, blood looked like it was being poured from a bucket. Sometimes, parts of clothing could be saturated in blood (such as a sleeve), but there was always more blood splattered nearby. When Katelyn was at the doctor's office (to get a piece of someone's bone removed from her forehead), "blood" goes smoothly/evenly around her eye to the lashes with no gaps or splatter marks. Blood from an explosion would not fall this "perfectly" around eyes. For example, folds in the eyelids would block some blood from landing in certain places and eyelashes should have some blood on them but Mara's did not. (01:41:27)

Continuity mistake: Mara is wearing a white long sleeve jersey when in the Dalton twins' car accident and when Dylan finds her in the water washing off blood. Dylan offers her the gray sweat suit he has in his backpack, but Mara says she isn't wearing it (because they wore those clothes at the police station). When Mara stands up, she has on a dark green T-shirt with a lighter green large circular design on the front. Mara is wearing the green top when she gets to quarantine, as well as later in the movie. This is obviously Mara's top, so where did it come from after she refused to wear the gray sweat suit from Dylan's backpack? (00:33:42 - 00:35:02)

Suggested correction: After rewatching the movie, I noticed that Dylan was POSSIBLY wearing this T-shirt under his jean jacket on his first day of school; the shirts look similar, but little can be seen because it is under the jean jacket. At the same time, Dylan's backpack at the accident scene did not look full enough to contain both parts of the sweatsuit, so it is a stretch to believe the T-shirt was also inside. Moreover, Dylan told Mara that he had a crush on her for two years, so the "old" T-shirt would have just happened to be in this backpack under the sweatsuit worn at the police station. Dylan is thinner than Mara, so it is unlikely that his T-shirt would fit her. When I rewatched the movie, I noticed that the T-shirt in question looked navy blue when Dylan had it on but green when Mara was wearing it.

Continuity mistake: Bobby's hair changes a few times/ways when he is showing Derek the video he made. Lengthwise, his hair on the back of his head doesn't always reach the collar of his shirt. Front shots show Bobby's hair is curled upward and dishevelled. Rear views show neatly (or neater) combed hair that is curled under. The back view also doesn't look like Nick Stahl's thin head or hair; the head is more rounded and the hair is thicker (and neater), suggesting back views are of a stand-in. (00:20:21 - 00:20:42)
