Plot hole: Mayor Brady told the Sheriff, "We're a tight-knit community with a resistance against change and outsiders, and you're both..." It sounds as though the Mayor deliberately hired the Sheriff ("which is why we brought you in"), but Sheriffs in North Carolina are elected officials. Justin would have had to get his name on the ballot and the community members (who didn't like outsiders) would have had to vote him in (wanting change), believing this outsider was the best person for the position. Discovering a dead body with cuts/scratches, a broken ankle, and a head wound (next to a rock with blood on it) does not automatically mean the person was murdered, and the Sheriff/police should have conducted a thorough investigation before making any conclusion about the cause of death. Character mistake: Deputy Becky said Mrs. Pierce was in shock over Vivian's murder. An EMT is shown standing next to Mrs. Pierce taking her blood pressure on top of her sweater/jacket (with a blouse underneath), which would interfere with an accurate reading. Mrs. Pierce's arm is also bent at the elbow instead of being straight. If Mrs. Pierce was truly in shock, the EMT should have had her lie on the ground with her legs/feet elevated above her heart. Sometimes, the tripod is closer to the center of the desk, about a foot away from the file folder, but other times it is closer to where Lax is sitting and one leg is almost touching the folder.
