Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl mistake picture

Continuity mistake: Aboard the Black Pearl while watching Interceptor explode, Elizabeth runs over to Barbossa and yells, "You've got to stop it." While Barbossa holds Elizabeth, in the first shot behind her, the left shoulder of her burgundy dress is on her shoulder. In the next front close-up shot, her dress is off her left shoulder, then in the next shot behind her, her dress is on her shoulder again. (01:30:55)

Continuity mistake: At the destruction of Isengard, the dam is broken and the river is starting to break through the wall. In the wide shot as the river starts to break through, we see the wall breaking and all the CG Orcs at the top of the wall falling. In the next close-up, we see the CG Orcs still standing on top of the wall and when they do fall in this close-up, they fall very differently than in the previous wide shot. (01:31:55)

Revealing mistake: During the destruction at Isengard, Treebeard says, "Break the dam. Release the river." While he says that, there is a close-up of the dam wall as the Ent pulls away the wood blockades. We see the water starting to spurt between certain stones. Then there is a wide shot of the area, and in this shot, the water does not start to spurt between the same stones or in the same manner as in the previous close-up. (01:31:50)

Continuity mistake: In Tortuga, as Will and Jack are seen for the first time, in the foreground is a drunk man teetering on two barrels and another drunk man on the ground drinking what is being poured into his mouth. In this wide shot the man on the ground has his right elbow on a sack on top of a small barrel. In his next close-up, the sack on top of the small barrel is gone and now there is a tied sack between him and the shovel. (00:50:50)

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl mistake picture

Continuity mistake: Either the first shot has a gratuitous view of the fort or the composite people neglected to add the fort in the second shot. Norrington says, "...this is the day that Capt. Jack Sparrow almost escaped. Take him away." The night shot that follows, shows the bridge archway, and beyond it the pier, Interceptor, the fort and its parapet. After Will breaks Jack out of prison, they approach the same archway and beyond it is the pier and Interceptor, but in this shot we don't see the fort and its parapet, nor the line that Jack slid down the day before. The camera angle is exactly the same. (00:27:15 - 00:44:30)

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl mistake picture

Continuity mistake: When Elizabeth is taken aboard the Black Pearl, Bo'sun slaps her face. Bo'sun's hand never makes any contact with Elizabeth's face, but the sound effect makes it very convincing. Also, in the first side shot of the slap, when Bo'sun starts to say, "You'll speak..." it's the back of her left hand that touches her cheek, and we can see the white corner of her night gown under the robe sleeve. In the next front shot, it's the palm of her hand that is touching her cheek now and the white night gown doesn't show at the sleeve. (00:38:10)

Revealing mistake: There are quite a few times where the Uruk-hai fitted skin wrinkles, creases or bubbles up where they shouldn't. Some examples are, at Helm's Deep, while they fight on the Deeping Wall, as the Uruks climb the ladders and when Gandalf charges with the Rohirrim. (01:05:30)

Revealing mistake: Jack slips aboard Interceptor and Murtogg and Mullroy run aboard and confront him. In Jack's close-up he begins to say, "Well then, I confess." The next shot is of Murtogg and Mullroy, while Jack continues to say, "It is my intention," and as he says, "to commandeer one of these ships..." there is a shot from behind Mullroy's right shoulder. As Jack speaks, Mullroy turns his head to the right and quickly glances peripherally to his side at the camera, so as not to bump into the steadicam at his elbow. Angus is not looking at anything else. (00:13:50)

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl mistake picture

Revealing mistake: Jack and Elizabeth are marooned on the island, and he goes down the stairs to the cache of rum. From below, he lifts his right arm up holding a bottle of rum and we see the pirate brand. It's a CG brand, and in this shot, the pirate brand is crooked and off to the side. It doesn't look the same as the close-up when Norrington lifts Jack's sleeve in Port Royal, and it's not because of camera angle. Jack's sun and sparrow tattoo isn't where it's supposed to be either. At this point in filming, this 'tattoo' on his arm is not a real tattoo, it is only applied for specific shots, and make-up didn't apply it for this shot. (This has nothing to do with Depp's real tattoo that he supposedly got later, after filming.) (01:36:15)

Continuity mistake: Jack walks past the dock master, behind Jack the desk is on a wagon and the handle is leaning on the left side of the desk. Also the feather quill on the desk is leaning towards the back of the desk. When Jack walks away and takes the sack of money, the handle of the wagon isn't leaning on the desk and the feather quill on the desk is leaning forward towards the front of the desk. (00:10:10)

Continuity mistake: Aboard Interceptor, when Jack causes the boom to slam into Will, in that wide shot the belaying pin on the rail across from Will is seen. When Jack says, "But I can't bring this ship into Tortuga all by me onesy, savvy?" behind him to his left, the belaying pin is seen again. The lines hanging from that belaying pin differs in both shots. (00:49:35)

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl mistake picture

Continuity mistake: Aboard Interceptor, Will says, "I'm not a simpleton Jack," Jack is near the wheel and tightening the line at the belaying pin on the rail. There's also a line going through a wood cleat on the rail next to the belaying pin. When Jack causes the boom to slam into Will, the rail is seen and the entire belaying pin with its line is missing, as well as the line in the cleat. Belaying pins are permanent and these are not flipped shots. (This is the wood belaying pin that snapped off, hitting Depp in the knee during the mishap, when filming Interceptor's escape.) Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl mistake picture

Continuity mistake: As the boom slams into Will, there's no pile of rope lying at the stern, only one line. In the next shot, Jack reaches down to pick up Will's sword and now there's a pile of rope lying on deck. When Jack swings the boom back and Will drops on deck, there's no pile of rope on deck again. This doesn't refer to the rigging lines attached to the boom. (00:49:35)

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl mistake picture

Continuity mistake: Aboard Interceptor, Will cuts the lines leading to Dauntless with his axe and Interceptor pulls away. As they pull away, the first gangplank falls, knocks into the swivel cannon on the rail of Interceptor, forcing it to now point up. Jack and Will are busy stealing Interceptor. When Jack yells out, "Thank you, Commodore!" the cannon is turned straight around again. The first shot was part of the mishap during filming, as noted in another mistake. (00:47:05)

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl mistake picture

Continuity mistake: Interceptor is side by side with Dauntless, in order to capture Jack and Will. Norrington boards Dauntless with three other men following him and in that close-up ON deck, Norrington says, "Search every cabin, every hull, down to the bilges." Yet, in the next shot, Norrington and those three men are actually seen just climbing up the gangplank to Dauntless. (00:46:55)

Continuity mistake: At Henneth Annun, Frodo and Sam have their blindfolds removed, and in this wide shot, behind them to their right one of the Rangers throws a cloth onto a crate that has objects lying on it, and sits down on the sack. In the semi close-up shots of Frodo and Sam, the cloth the Ranger threw lies differently and the things lying on the crate are different too. No one touched them. (00:28:55)

Super Grover

Continuity mistake: At Henneth Annun, Frodo and Sam have their blindfolds removed, and to their left are two barrels. In the 1st shot, one barrel has a brown cloth draped on it with a bowl of nuts and cracked shells and on the second barrel, candles that are not lit. In the 2nd shot, Faramir walks in and to his right the brown cloth under the bowl of nuts is draped differently, the candles, which are lit now, are a different variety and there are also ceramic jugs near the barrels now. After Frodo answers, "Yes. For my part," Faramir gets up and as he walks, the items on the barrels look the same as in the first shot. (00:29:00)

Continuity mistake: Éowyn and many of the refugees are shown as they see Helm's Deep in the distance. In the first wide shot, Éothain and Freda are riding on the horse and a particular rock formation is seen way in the distance. They keep riding towards Helm's Deep, which we see in the next shot. In the children's next close-up, they are now right in front of that rock formation that was shown in the earlier shot. This is not due to zooming. The two pieces of footage were switched, so as to have their close-up seen last. (00:14:55)

Continuity mistake: Boromir approaches the statue that holds the shards of Narsil. First we see the shards laid out on the crinkled grey cloth, with two short ends draped over the edge. Then as he takes the hilt the cloth bunches up (seen on fullscreen), and he cuts his finger on the 'still sharp' blade. In the close-up when he carelessly places the hilt back onto the cloth - as it starts to fall, the cloth (which is now darker) is spread out much straighter, more cloth drapes over the left edge, and the shards are spaced somewhat differently than the previous shot. When Boromir walks away, there is a very short amount of cloth that is draped over the right edge, near the statue's fingers. Then, when Aragorn lifts the hilt off the floor, as he rises, both ends of the cloth that are draped over the edge are now much, much, longer, and the top of the cloth is crinkled, with the shards spaced similarly to the first shot. (01:33:55)

Continuity mistake: When the Uruk-hai run through the rock canyon carrying Merry and Pippin, it's obviously the same rock canyon that Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli run through when Aragorn says, "Not idly do the leaves of Lorien fall." However, when the Uruks run through it, many false rock formations and extra running footage were added which not only changes the appearance of part of the canyon between the two shots, but also makes it seem like a longer distance through the same canyon.
