Doctor Who

The Sound of Drums (2) - S3-E12

New this week Factual error: When introducing himself to the Toclafane, President Winters refers to himself as "President-elect of the United States of America." President-elect is the title given to the victor of an American presidential election who has not yet been sworn in, between early November and January 20. This was a mistake on Russell T Davies' part, as he was under the impression it was a longer, formal title for the American president.

Flesh and Stone (2) - S5-E5

New this week Continuity mistake: In the last scene, when Amy attempts to seduce the Doctor, she pulls his suspenders off his shoulders and he pulls them back on. As a result, the suspenders change position between shots.

The Beast Below - S5-E2

New this week Continuity mistake: In the scene at the beginning with the boy on the Vator being sent "below", the Smiler in the lift is shown with its head turned to its frowning face shortly before it is shown changing its expression.

The Beast Below - S5-E2

New this week Continuity mistake: When the Doctor first meets Liz 10, during their conversation, her hood is pulled completely over her hair in shots facing her, but some of her hair is sticking above her hood in shots facing the Doctor.

New Earth - S2-E4

New this week Continuity mistake: When Rose gets into one of the hospital's elevators early in the episode, stock footage of an elevator descending is shown. When the Doctor, Rose and Cassandra (possessing her) go into an elevator shaft later on, it looks and is shaped completely differently.

World War Three (2) - S1-E5

New this week Revealing mistake: At the end, when the Doctor leans out of the TARDIS to warn the kid washing graffiti off the side never to graffiti it again, the inside of the prop is visible due to light from outside shining through one of the prop's windows.

The End of Time: Part Two - S4-E18

New this week Audio problem: During the climax, when the Doctor has Wilf's old service revolver and is alternately pointing it at the Master and Rassilon, there's a cocking sound every time he turns. Not only is the handgun a revolver, so it only needs to be cocked once, the Doctor is only shown actually cocking the gun once, when he first points it at Rassilon.

The Runaway Bride - S3-E14

New this week Continuity mistake: The episode repeats the closing scene of "Doomsday", when Donna unexpectedly appears in the TARDIS. However, several details are different. One, the console room is more brightly lit than in the previous episode. Two, the shirt belonging to Rose that Donna finds draped over a railing was not present.

Human Nature (1) - S3-E8

New this week Plot hole: The Doctor leaves Martha a recording with instructions for her for when he's human. However, the flashbacks to the incident that led to him using the Chameleon Arch don't leave enough - or any - time for him to have made the recording.

New this week Suggested correction: He would have been planning the change to human for a while now, not just made it up on the fly. So he could have made a recording before the opening scene.

The episode makes it pretty clear that he and Martha got taken by surprise by the Family's attack. The Doctor also explicitly says, when he gets out the Chameleon Arch headset, that he never thought he'd use it. The flashbacks consistently present his decision to become human as one made as an urgent, in the moment one.

The Sound of Drums (2) - S3-E12

New this week Continuity mistake: On the Valiant's bridge, when the Doctor is telling Martha and Jack about his plan to slip one of the perception filter keys around the Master's neck while holding his key, the position of the key changes in his hand, from being held by the wide end to being held by the narrow end.

The Shakespeare Code - S3-E2

New this week Deliberate mistake: The Globe Theatre is shown staging performances at night. In actuality, they performed during the day, when there was enough light, since this was pre-electricity. This was done both to make the climax of the episode scarier and because they shot on location in the real Globe, which still shows its plays during the day, and thus they didn't have a lot of time to shoot during the day there.

Last of the Time Lords (3) - S3-E13

New this week Factual error: When time is seen rewinding after the destruction of the Paradox Machine, the Earth and Moon are seen rotating and orbiting backwards. The Moon is depicted far closer to Earth than it actually is.

Nightmare in Silver - S7-E14

New this week Plot hole: At the beginning, when the Doctor, Clara, Angie and Artie get off the TARDIS, the two kids are absolutely convinced that they're on the Moon, despite the Doctor explaining that they're actually at the Spacey Zoomer ride on Hedgewick's World, the greatest amusement park in the universe. The kids only realise they really aren't on the Moon when Webley emerges from inside of a fake rock formation, followed by the soldiers. The part of the room that the soldiers come from, which should have been fully visible to the time travellers from the beginning, is not the Moon and even contains a sign for the Spacey Zoomer ride.

New this week Suggested correction: Perhaps they didn't see everything and only focused on small things, or they remembered the Futurama episode with an amusement park set on the moon.

The End of Time: Part Two - S4-E18

New this week Factual error: The Vinvocci ship is said to be orbiting 100,000 miles above Earth, later refined to 105,000 miles. That's one-third of the distance to the Moon, and the Earth's apparent size from the windows of the ship is far too large for them to be that distance, or even 100,000 kilometres above the Earth's surface. Judging by the Earth's apparent size, the spaceship is actually orbiting 6,000-7,000 kilometres above the planet's surface.

The Fires of Pompeii - S4-E2

New this week Plot hole: After getting out of the Pyrovile escape pod, the Doctor and Donna start running back to Pompeii. In the process, they are somehow able to outrun what appears to be a pyroclastic flow. Pyroclastic flows can reach speeds of up to 700 kph, and should be impossible for them to outrun.

The Christmas Invasion - S2-E2

New this week Other mistake: When Rose and Mickey are running across the plaza after being dropped off by a cab, a fence is visible between where they are and where the cab pulled up. It is unlikely to say the least that they would have gotten out of their cab right by a fence.

Smith and Jones - S3-E1

New this week Factual error: When the Royal Hope Hospital is transported to the Moon, the area it is in is dark, indicating they are on the side of the Moon not currently facing the Sun. However, in a wide shot of the hospital on the Moon, something that looks like the Sun is visible, something that the illumination of the landscape and the Earth shows cannot be visible.

Utopia (1) - S3-E11

New this week Other mistake: The stet radiation in the red room is able to disintegrate living beings, with the exception of the immortal Jack. People not going in the room are shown to stay out of the line of the door when it's being opened, lest they be disintegrated. When Jack comes out of the room after having finished in there, the Doctor, telephoning the rocket, is in line with the open door yet remains completely fine.

Utopia (1) - S3-E11

New this week Other mistake: When Professor Yana shows Martha his pocket watch, which she comes to realise is a Chameleon Arch, she initially finds it familiar from the appearance of the back, and eventually asks him if she can see the front. Before she eventually sees the front of the watch, there is a shot where the front is hidden to the camera, but should be perfectly visible to Martha.

Quotes

Doctor: So, that's the trap. Or the test or the final judgment, I don't know. But if I kill you, I kill her. Except that implies, in this big grand scheme of Gods and Devils, that she's just a victim. But I've seen a lot of this universe. I've seen fake gods and bad gods and demi-gods and would-be gods - out of all that - out of that whole pantheon - if I believe in one thing... Just one thing... I believe in her.
