Showgirls (1995)

Corrected entry: When Nomi is playing slots at the Riviera, a female attendant comes by and asks if she "wants to try some silver dollars". Later in the movie when Nomi is trying on a dress at the Versace boutique, a saleswoman appears in the reflection of the mirror and says "it looks quite good on you!". Upon closer inspection, you can see that the slot machine attendant and Versace saleswoman are the same actress.

Correction: Credits on the film list the Versace saleswoman as Melanie Van Betten and the slot machine attendant as Jean Barrett.

Showgirls (1995)

Corrected entry: When Annie is dropped, she clearly falls on her butt, yet she breaks her knee.

Correction: Very unlikely (for a knee injury), but technically possible. In EMS terms it's known as an indirect injury; traumatic injury that takes place away from the point of impact. Commonly seen in auto accidents when a subject slams their palm into the dashboard; the trauma travels up the arm and can result in a fracture of the arm or dislocation of the shoulder. Falling hard enough on the backside could cause a dislocation at the knee.

The Dark Knight (2008)

Corrected entry: When Bruce Wayne is back in his penthouse after having saved Dent, but Rachel is dead, he is sitting in a chair in the Batman costume. The cowl and some other suit parts are on the floor behind him as if he shed them just before sitting in the chair. When you see his face, he has no eyeblack on. There seems to be no other way he gets the eye mask openings to be black - no fabric, no lenses - looking carefully it must be makeup of some kind.

Correction: The disappearing/reappearing eye makeup issue has been covered previously in scenes where it instantaneously changes. Batman does not wear eye make-up, period. The black is part of the cowl/mask. See the scene in Batman Begins when Alfred hits the defective mask with a hammer (00:58:35). You can clearly see the black membrane in the eye holes.

Help! (1965)

Corrected entry: In the scene where Ringo and Paul are in the bathroom and the hand dryer starts sucking up Ringo's arm when he is standing right beside it only his sleeve rips off but when George walks in a bit later his whole shirt rips off from across the room. Why does George's shirt come apart so easily compared to Ringo's clothing?

Correction: Poor tailoring. Or more properly, comic license. It's a comedy; illogical events are there to provide the humor. Obviously no vacuum the size of a hand dryer would be powerful enough to suck the clothes off a person from across the room.

Help! (1965)

Corrected entry: After the two scientists have driven off with Ringo in the boot of the car, they notice George jumping on the back of the car. But when they stop, they don't notice George opening the boot to get the wheelbrace out, or that the boot is still open when they drive off, even though the boot lid obscures the rear window.

Correction: Algernon and Professor Foot are completely preoccupied with getting the car re-started and don't notice anything outside the car. The fact that George is able to take the lug nuts off without them seeing him is part of the joke. Remember, Algernon and Professor Foot aren't really that smart; they think one indestructible rock will give them the power to "rule the world".

Corrected entry: Once James reaches the abandoned cab, why does he go tracking through the wild? The tire tracks from the cars that saved his family are still there for him to follow, not to mention there's a road.

Correction: Character choice, not a movie mistake; it is possible that he thought it was a shortcut.

Jaws 2 (1978)

Corrected entry: When the kid is pumping up his boat and the shark rams it, he falls into the water head first. But when he gets on board the other boat, he still has his cap on. Highly unlikely.

Correction: But not a movie mistake, the cap could have stayed on.

Labyrinth (1986)

Corrected entry: When Sarah runs into the labyrinth, she goes right, she then goes back through that wall, but somehow it leads to the rest of the labyrinth.

Correction: Please clarify. Sarah runs several yards down a straight path thinking there are no turns or openings in the walls. Then the worm tells her about the opening that looks like a solid wall. She walks through it to another path. The worm even tells her which way to turn so that she goes into the Labyrinth (to keep her from going "straight to that castle").

Corrected entry: When Freddie is telling Janet about his girlfriend and how she cheated on him, he indicated that the other man was "Danny" Terrio. (The former host of Dance Fever). His name is not Danny, it's Deney.

Lynette Carrington

Correction: Character error; I've heard several people mispronounce his name. The two are extremely similar.

Hancock (2008)

Corrected entry: (SPOILER ALERT) When Hancock returns in the morning after he has been tossed out of the house by Mary, he tries to stab her with a fork only to see it bend when she is stabbed. But later you find out that when these two are close to each other, their powers weaken and they can be killed and shot, just like normal people.

Correction: Their powers weaken over a long stretch of time. Hancock still has all of his powers for some time after being around Mary, then gradually loses individual abilities. At this point in the movie Mary still had the power of impermeability.

BocaDavie

Corrected entry: Although Alex is now a college student, Rick (his father) has hardly aged since the last film. They look more like brothers than father and son.

Correction: True, they look like brothers (and in real life Brendan Fraser is only 13 years older than Luke Ford), but the way two characters look is not a movie mistake - only poor casting if it distracts from the story. And, as you mentioned, Brendan Fraser looks like he has hardly aged in the past seven years. Some people just hold onto their youthful appearance longer.

BocaDavie

It should also be noted that this movie only takes place 13 years after the last one, and they were made 7 years apart. That's only a 5-year difference - not a tremendous amount of time at all. And in fact, in 2014 (13 years after "The Mummy Returns"), Brendan Fraser still looked pretty much identical to how he looked in this movie. He hasn't really started to show his age until the last few years and even then, he still looks quite good for his age. Some people really do just age very well.

Disturbia (2007)

Corrected entry: When Kale and Ashley are kissing and Kale is telling Ashley that, "I have a million problems," the movie cuts to a scene where Turner is cutting up a (potential?) corpse. Considering that later on in the movie, it is revealed that he has a big lab where he can do these types of things, why would he cut the corpse (even if it were a deer rather than the club girl) in the open like that?

Correction: Character choice, not a movie mistake. Turner knows Kale is on to him. Cutting up the "corpse" of the deer in the open ultimately leads to the police finding out the "body" is just a deer, discrediting Kale's accusations.

Cast Away (2000)

Corrected entry: In the beginning when the Fedex driver goes to the girl's house in Texas, considering the trucks for Fedex have no air conditioning, why would the driver wear a big winter jacket? Even on cold days in Texas, you don't need a jacket that big.

Correction: Character decision, not a movie mistake.

BocaDavie

Obviously, you've never visited or lived in the Texas Panhandle.

Alien (1979)

Corrected entry: 1. As captain, why send yourself, the only other pilot (Cain) and the weakest and most timid member of the crew (Lambert) to investigate an unknown and possibly dangerous planet? The better selection would have been Cain, Ripley (whose duties as warrant officer seem to be unclear) and one of the engineers, Bret or Parker. 2. Are we really to believe that the chain smoking and slightly built Lambert could help Dallas carry Cain's limp, space suit laden body thousands of meters, across rugged terrain back to the Nostromo? 3. The Nostromo can navigate itself to Earth through deep space - a navigator is not needed. 4. The Nostromo is just a 'tug' so why does it need a science officer and a lab filled with science equipment? 5. All the elaborate buttons and switches on the bridge and med lab have no labels or designators - how does the crew know what they're turning on or off? 6. Dallas makes two flippant decisions. First, to take off from the planet with needed repairs still underway. And second, to remove the face-hugger from Cain's face even thought it might kill him.

Correction: All character decisions, not movie mistakes. But there are some valid explanations: 1. Lambert's technical abilities were needed to decipher the alien equipment. 2. Lambert carried the lighter end (feet-end of the stretcher), and they likely made several rest stops. 3. Another character decision. 4. A science station doubles as sickbay and is needed in case they run into alien unknowns (like the situation in the movie). 5. Well trained people don't need labels on buttons. For example, expert typists can use a blank keyboard. 6. Not flippant decisions, the ship was able to take off and trying to remove the face-hugger was a calculated risk.

BocaDavie

Maybe the normal tugs owned by the company don't have a fully equipped science station, but the company would make sure this one did due to the nature of their mission.

It's more than a tug boat. It's a refinery that processes ore.

No, Nostromo is a tug towing the refinery, which is not part of the ship. The vessel detaches from the latter when they touch down on LV-426.

Jukka Nurmi

Corrected entry: The skyscrapers seen protruding from the water, just wouldn't still be standing. The weight of water pressure and corrosive rust damage to the foundations would have undermined and toppled them. The last scenes are even sillier 2000 years later the buildings are still there! Despite the fact that the extremes of low temperature would have rendered their entire structure brittle, not to mention the crushing effect of countless billions of tonnes of (possibly drifting) ice.

AidanN

Correction: The weight of water pressure distributes itself evenly on all surfaces, it does not just push weight down onto an object and would add no load onto the supports of the buildings. I-Beams used in skyscraper construction are made of structural steel or aluminum - they would take centuries to corrode. When the ocean froze it would actually help support the building and when the aliens cut away the ice it is revealed that the ocean has frozen through to the sea bed - all of the ice is therefore held in place and not in motion. The twin towers rising from the ice is a mistake, but we'll have to give the filmakers that one.

The Bank Job (2008)

Corrected entry: Michael X (Abdul Malick) is from Trinidad, but the actor has a very strong Jamaican accent which is very far from a Trinidadian accent.

Correction: Not everyone speaks with the accent of their native country. Many people adopt the accent of the place where they receive their education, the country they move to, or the group of people they are closely associated with. After moving to the United Kingdom in 1957 any number of factors could have had an influence on the way he spoke. And, there will always be some differences between the historical character and the actor portraying him on screen - saying that Moses didn't speak English with a slight midwest accent would not be a valid movie mistake.

Corrected entry: In the scene where Bourne tapes Abbott's confession, Abbott is then left in the room with the tape for a very long time. Why doesn't he just destroy the tape?

Brad

Correction: Bourne slams down his gun, not the tape recorder, he then mails the tape to Landy and leaves Abbott to shoot himself with the gun.

Jumanji (1995)

Corrected entry: During the flood, the cop and the woman go up to the door. The cop draws his gun; just then the water rushes out at them. This much water would have probably caused him to lose his grip on the gun, and the last thing he'd be thinking about is putting it back, yet as he's floating down the street, his gun is back in the holster.

Coconut

Correction: We don't see Carl drop the gun; we'll have to assume he held on to it and replaced it in the holster. With everything happening around him, holding onto the gun was probably one of his primary concerns.

Jumanji (1995)

Corrected entry: When Robin Williams and the cop are in the police car, they crash through the store (that the other three are in) because the brakes are cut. A few minutes later, the cop drives by the lady and stops without any problem. (You do see the cop pour some fluid into the car, but it would not affect the brakes, because you can actually see the hole in the brake line when they are trying to stop for the first time.)

Correction: After the crash they cut to another scene, then back to Carl filling the brake fluid. He must have repaired the line off-camera or the brakes would not work. He knew he was leaking brake fluid; he would not attempt to drive the car unless it was fixed.

BocaDavie

Replacing the fluid and repairing the line (more like replacing the line) would not make the brakes work correctly. You would also have to bleed the air from the line at each caliper or wheel cylinder, which takes specialized tools and quite a bit of time.

Hancock (2008)

Corrected entry: After Hancock gets called out of jail, the officer tells him to rescue the cop that's down. The criminals pull out the rocket launcher and it pans over to a view of the officer when she is near the tire of the police car. But when Hancock gets to her, she's moved to the middle of the car somehow.

Correction: She was shot, but not incapacitated. There was time between the cuts for her to move to the center of the car.
