Corrected entry: How is it that the battle between the Vengeance and the Enterprise took place for so long without anyone on Earth providing assistance? Shouldn't Starfleet have some sort of planetary defense contingency against a starship (or fleet of them) appearing within the Earth's orbit?

Teru_Kage

Correction: Admiral Marcus was still in command of the Vengeance during the initial battle; he had the authority to order all ships to stand down - something he would need to do so that no one could come to the aid of the Enterprise.

BocaDavie

Corrected entry: Scotty entered the Jupiter construction site of the USS Vengeance without anyone noticing. Given that the base was a top secret facility run by Section 31, it is highly unlikely that it wouldn't have security system on high alert monitoring all approaching ships. And Scotty didn't know ahead of time what he was looking for, so it's not likely he would have had the foresight to mask his approach.

Teru_Kage

Correction: "Highly unlikely" does not constitute a mistake; Scotty spots the construction site from a distance, just as he clears one of Jupiter's moons. Knowing that something was amiss he would logically mask his approach.

Iron Man 3 (2013)

Corrected entry: The explosion of a failed Extremis subject is so strong it vaporizes living organisms in the blast radius along with collateral damage (as shown at the Chinese Theater). In Tennessee, the site of a similar incident, it is shown that the crater of the explosion is a few feet from the corner of two walls. The walls, for some reason, were not obliterated even though the explosion was strong enough to destroy everything else.

Correction: There is severe damage to the walls in Tennessee, and if you watch the Chinese Theater scenes you see that all of the walls surrounding the blast area are intact. The Extremis explosion is a heat-related blast, the bulk of the damage is to organic tissue.

Corrected entry: When officer Blake faces the cops on the bridge and forces them to shoot at his feet to scare him off, the ricochet line to the fired shots would all have pointed to the orphans standing behind officer Blake.

Correction: And apparently missed them. The officers guarding the bridge were so intent on keeping people from crossing that they were willing to put the kids in harm's way; it was just lucky that no one got hit. Also, a ricochet does not necessarily follow the line of fire. Depending on what it hits the bullet can take a different trajectory.

BocaDavie

Corrected entry: In the scene where Bane has Miranda, Lucius Fox and another board member placed in front of the reactor, in the shot where Fox places his hand in the digital scanner you can see he misses his mark, because the scanner shows his supposedly scanned finger prints about an inch lower than where his fingers are placed.

eructo666

Correction: The screen scans the fingerprints no matter where the hand is placed; the monitor is just showing the read-out of the prints, not their original positions.

BocaDavie

Corrected entry: Alfred was able to determine Bane's superior fighting skills and motivation compared to Batman's, while never having witnessed Batman in a fight (Alfred being always back at the manor awaiting any call from Batman for help).

Correction: Alfred has no doubt seen Bruce practicing his skills on a number of occasions, and saw the outcome when he lost to the League of Shadows just before they burned down Wayne Manor in Batman Begins. In addition, it's clear that Alfred does not want Bruce to become the Batman again; he keeps trying to talk him out of putting the cape back on.

BocaDavie

Corrected entry: The police vehicles in Gotham read 'GPD', the police officers' uniforms read 'GCPD'.

Correction: Just the way they decided to label things. The people who designed the uniforms are obviously not the same as those who designed the vehicles. Many agencies keep the lettering on police cars as simple as possible; there are even those that just say "police' on the side.

Goldfinger (1964)

Corrected entry: Dropping a large gold bar onto a golf green, as Bond does, would have left a considerable dent in the ground, yet it didn't. A standard gold bar weighs about 25lb, so even on a well-tended green, this would have done visible damage.

Nicki

Correction: Several problems with this submission. 1. The bar lands flat against the green, distributing its weight evenly. 2. We only see the bar hitting the ground; for all we know Bond may have just dropped it from below waist level. 3. A 200 pound person could jump on a well maintained golf course and not leave a 'considerable dent', their shoe size not being much larger than the side of the gold bar.

Goldfinger (1964)

Corrected entry: The plane with Pussy and Bond is crashing very very fast. There is no way they could jump out in a parachute - and survive - at that speed.

Jacob La Cour

Correction: This is an assumption with no supporting data. They obviously grab parachutes, jump out of the plane, then pull the rip cord after they've cleared the jet (they do not "jump out in a parachute"). The submitter has no proof that people could not survive a jump from a plummeting plane.

BocaDavie

Correction: It's not an assumption without data, it's common sense. You cannot jump out of a jet with a parachute and survive. If you tried, you'd be caught in the slipstream and smashed against the side of the jet (or possibly sucked into an engine). This is why fighter jets have ejector seats, to clear the pilot away from the plane before the parachute opens. In a jet in a dive with no attitude control, it would be impossible to even make it to the door, as the jet would be spinning and you'd be thrown around.

Avatar (2009)

Corrected entry: The great expense of the avatar program is mentioned early in the film, hence wanting to use Jake so as not to waste his brother's avatar. Why then, since Jake has them over a barrel so to speak, doesn't Jake ask the corporation to repair his spine as a condition for joining the program? The Commander promised to get them for him if he spied on the Navi. It just seems that he could have avoided the whole spy/betrayal dilemma.

xxlsuge

Correction: This is a question, not a mistake. For all we know Jake did ask but was turned down. Either way, getting his legs back was not the motivating factor that made Jake take the job; he clearly states that he was just tired of people telling him what he can't do.

BocaDavie

Corrected entry: HAL has complete control over the pods while they are outside the Discovery - he can even use one as a murder weapon. How, then, does he allow Bowman to steer a pod to the escape hatch? Why not just shoot him and the pod off into deep space?

Correction: This is a question, not a mistake. The pods obviously have a manual override.

The Avengers (2012)

Corrected entry: Near the beginning of the film, Tony Stark views the information on the other superheroes before they all come together, on hologram touch screens. If you look closely at one of the screens, you can see footage of Black Widow and Hawkeye fighting side-by-side. That same footage was taken from the final fight scene of the movie, so it hadn't happened yet.

Correction: Not the same footage; the background is different, and they're on different sides of the screen. The footage they are showing is supposed to be of a previous battle the two of them had fought - given the broadly similar setup and Black Widow saying "just like Budapest all over again", it might be that occasion.

BocaDavie

Correction: I've watched the film three times and the birthmark stays on his right upper chest throughout the film. There is one scene where Caesar is looking at himself in the mirror; when they show a close-up it is the image in the mirror, making it look like the birthmark has moved to the left side.

BocaDavie

Corrected entry: One of the female apes in the ape sanctuary who was taken to the lab was named Cornelia. This probably would become Caesar's future mate and probably produce the scientist ape called Cornelius in Heston's "Planet of the Apes."

ALDON SAMAHA

Correction: The original film takes place in the in the year 3978. Not possible that a mating of Cornelia and Caesar in the present day would produce Cornelius, who lives in the distant future. Also - this is speculation, not trivia. Considering how many references they make to the original film it is most likely that "Cornelia" is mash-up of the names "Cornelius" and "Zira"; the two scientist apes from the original.

BocaDavie

Corrected entry: Picard holds a staff meeting with all the major officers after learning of the Borg yet the Tactical officer (whoever replaced Worf during this time while he was on DS9) is never seen.

jbrbbt

Correction: There is no mention of a tactical officer replacing Worf, but when Worf is asked to give a hand he does relieve someone at the tactical station. Obviously they had a lower-level officer filling in at tactical until a replacement could be found for Worf. The lower-level officer would not have been invited to the staff meeting.

BocaDavie

Corrected entry: When Harry, Ron and Hermione jump off the dragon they used to escape from the bank, Harry's glasses remain still on his head even after falling into the water from that incredible height.

demons_2413

Correction: Throughout the series Harry's glasses have clinged to his head in circumstances where you would think they should have fallen off. Most notably in the diving scenes during "Goblet of Fire" and "Half Blood Prince". Apparently they fit so securely that they stay on, even when diving into water.

BocaDavie

Corrected entry: Just after Steve gains his new powers, he has to chase down the Hydra spy. He catches him in a sub, Steve punches out the glass on the left side window and pulls the spy out. But later when Howard Stark is investigating the sub the window is not broken.

mystiemyth

Correction: Some time has passed between the two scenes. Stark must have had the window replaced so he could do underwater tests and see if the technology can be replicated.

BocaDavie

Corrected entry: In the scene where they spray paint the ship, you can see the ship is suspended on landing gear. then later when it lands in the park cloaked, the special effect shows the garbage can being compressed under the ship, and the outline of the entire ship indenting into the ground, as if the entire ship is making contact with the ground, but really only the small area of the landing gear should be compressing the ground and only at certain points.

gawdsmak

Correction: At no time do they ever show an entire indentation of the ship in the ground. Even when Scotty is looking down through the invisible ship while loading the plexiglass the only indentations in the ground are from the landing gear.

BocaDavie

And it's also plausible they hovered the ship during certain times in 'cloaked' mode so people did not collide with it. Would take a minimal amount of energy just to hover surely.

Corrected entry: In the scene where the helicopter is flying, the plexiglass is much smaller than the size they had previously stated (60 by 10 feet).

gawdsmak

Correction: The previous statement they made about the size of the plexiglass was an estimate. They obviously had to change the sizes - either because of the helicopter's lifting capacity or because of the size of the openings at the top of the warbird.

Robocop (1987)

Corrected entry: When Robocop confronts Emil, he sets of a fire by throwing a lighted cigarette towards the punctured Gasoline tube, a huge explosion occurs. Murphy's flesh is exposed but suffers no damage.

sriram_r_2009

Correction: There is fire all around him, but not directly in his face - the only place where his flesh is exposed. The rest of his organic parts are shielded by the armor.
