Beetlejuice (1988)

Corrected entry: When Alec is forced to show how he would scare the Deitzes, he proceeds to make a "face". Look very carefully - after he pops out his eyes, and then close his hands together and the hands go off screen, it is immediately replaced by two hands with eye on each finger. The hands are *NOT* Alec's, but an offscreen cast member or prop guy. (01:06:15)

Scott Steinbrink

Correction: Please clarify this submission; they look like Alec's hands. What specifically is different between the two shots?

Goldeneye (1995)

Corrected entry: When the helicopter near the dish in Cuba crashes it pulls Famke away from Bond, as she is attached to the chopper by a rope. The tree breaks her movement and she dies. She should have been ripped to pieces or cut in half by the rope which after all had a helicopter attached to it.

Correction: She is killed by smashing against the tree at the same time the helicopter hits the ground. At the moment the helicopter crashes it stops pulling on the rope.

Superman II (1980)

Corrected entry: After Clark Kent learns about Zod in the diner and after he was beaten up by that guy in the diner, he realizes that he must get his powers back. So, he walks all the way from the diner to the Fortress of Solitude, a distance of several thousand miles. With no food, no water, no transportation, no money, and just a coat, he manages to walk through miles of snow, ice, and freezing cold to get to the Fortress of Solitude. How does he do this? I don't think any human being could pull this off, and at this stage that's just what he is.

Correction: It is never revealed where the Fortress of Solitude is or how far it is to the nearest town; it is obviously not "several thousand miles". They also don't show his preparation for the trip. He could have gotten as much food as he could carry from the diner and hitched a ride as far north as possible. If Clark and Lois can make it to the diner then Clark can obviously make it back.

Wall-E (2008)

Corrected entry: EVE stands for "Extra Terrestrial Vegetation Evaluator" but she is evaluating terrestrial vegetation. Unless she was designed before the Axiom left Earth, it would make more sense for her to be named TVE. However, she has a very sophisticated design, so it is unlikely she was designed that long ago. Her name doesn't make sense in accordance with her design, but it is much more pronounceable.

Correction: Many organizations arrange their names or names of their products to make easily pronouncable acronyms, hence EVE and not ETVE or TVE. Also, as you mention, she was probably designed not too long ago. With the human population living on the Axion for 800 years the spaceship has now become their home world; everything outside the ship would be considered extra terrestrial.

Jurassic Park (1993)

Corrected entry: Ellie finds the upturned car that Timmy had been stuck in, but how did she get down there? It's down an almost vertical ledge. Not only that but she got from the bottom to the top incredibly quickly.

Correction: Dr. Grant, Tim and Lex only went over the ledge beacuse they were forced to. They never show Ellie descending to the bottom; we don't know how long it took her or how she did it. For all we know there was a staircase off camera.

Superman Returns (2006)

Corrected entry: As Superman is shown flying literally 3 feet or so above the surface of the ocean, the water is not affected at all. It was established in the beginning of the scene that he was exceeding the speed of sound, and anything flying at that speed that close to the surface of the water would produce a wave/rooster tail of at least 20 feet or so.

Correction: He is flying significantly higher than three feet and his speed is never established; there is no sonic boom so we must assume he is not traveling the speed of sound.

Superman Returns (2006)

Corrected entry: When the bank-robber with the Gatling gun shoots Superman in the eye from close range with his pistol, the bullet flattens and deforms upon impact with Superman's eye, and then falls lazily to the ground directly at their feet. The bad guy even watches as the bullet falls. This shouldn't happen: The bullet should have ricocheted off of Superman's eye with a lot of latent energy since none of it was dissipated upon impact. The bullet would have violently ricocheted away from the area just like the hundreds of bullets fired at Superman from the machine gun did. Also there is no way that any human could react fast enough to actually watch a ricocheting bullet from that short distance.

Correction: From Wikipedia: "The likelihood of ricochet is dependent on many factors, including bullet shape, velocity (and distance), target material and the angle of incidence". Obviously the bullet from the handgun is of a different composition than the shells used in the "Gatling gun" and the interaction between the bullet and his eye is different than that of the shells and his chest. Some bullets - like one fired from the handgun - are designed to deform on impact to reduce the likelihood of a ricochet.

Corrected entry: Doc puts Jennifer to sleep because she was asking too many questions about her future, and according to him, no-one should know too much about their future. But when they have landed in 2015, Doc doesn't see anything wrong with telling Marty, at length, what is going to happen to Marty in his future.

Correction: Character decision, not a movie mistake. Marty is already completely informed about the time machine. Doc is taking a calculated risk that the 1985 Marty can fix this one event (that ruins his kid's lives) without severely disrupting the existing time line (from 1985 to 2015). Doc does not disclose any information to Marty about his future, only about the future of Marty's kids. Putting Jennifer to sleep with the hopes of making her think it was all a dream would ensure that she does nothing to disrupt the time line.

Corrected entry: As shown in Aliens, the alien drones are never far from their queen, so they can protect her. Since the Newborn was so hostile to the queen when it was born, why weren't the drones all over it within seconds, tearing it to pieces? (00:29:50)

Correction: Character choice, not a movie mistake. There are many aspects of the alien culture that we don't know about. Logically, when a Queen dies the offspring would become the new Queen. No one could see that the newborn was going to kill the Queen until it was too late.

Corrected entry: During the first battle between "Enterprise" and "Reliant", the Enterprise destroys the dome above the impulse engines on Reliant's saucer-section. This dome is then shown to be undamaged in the very next exterior shot of Reliant as it moves away from camera.

Correction: The center section of the dome is smashed, leaving some of the "glass" intact around the edges. The shot of the Reliant leaving only shows a side view of the vessel and a very tiny section of the glass dome that stayed in place along the port side. They never show the dome fully intact.

BocaDavie

Correction: And there is nothing to say a force-field wouldn't have replaced the broken glass, or indeed some self-repairing substance might not exist in the future. Has happened in other Trek films and indeed in other sci-fi.

The Dark Knight (2008)

Corrected entry: Two-Face's face should drool (also known as ptyalism or sialorrhea) saliva from his mouth openings; it just looks too waxy.

Correction: Swallowing the saliva, damage to salivary glands in the fire, wiping his mouth off camera; several explainations. As a former medic I've treated people with severe burns; Harvey's appearence in the movie is a good approximation of what someone looks like with their skin completely burned off.

Blue Thunder (1983)

Corrected entry: When the SWAT officers are piling out of the van to get into the helicopters to chase Blue Thunder, the lead SWAT officers hair is too long at the back. Allowances are made for plain clothes officers, but not for uniformed officers. (01:19:10)

Correction: In most police agencies SWAT is an on-call unit comprised of officers from throughout the department who have received special training and work their regular jobs (road patrol, detective bureau, etc) until there is a SWAT call-out. In other words, you don't have a group of officers whose only job is SWAT; they would be sitting around - possibly for days - waiting for a SWAT call. The officers of the SWAT unit can be from any section, including vice and other undercover units that are allowed to wear long hair, beards, or whatever else is needed to function undercover. Very possible for the long-haired officer to be from a vice unit.

Corrected entry: After Kahn reveals himself to Kirk and company, he gives sixty seconds to gather the information that he wants on Genesis. From that declaration to the actual "Time's Up." is just over two minutes even though it would appear that he was using some device to do the actual timing (he appears to be shutting off a stopwatch or something when he says that their time is up). On the Director's Edition, the time index is about a minute and 40 seconds later than the original release. (00:52:25 - 00:53:30)

Garlonuss

Correction: They don't show Khan setting any kind of timer; he's just looking at a clock to time the minute. Then his second in command starts a conversation with him, followed by Kirk talking to him. It's likely that with the distractions he forgot which minute he started his countdown on, or just decided to let Kirk have the extra minute after pleading for the extra time. Character choice/mistake.

The Dark Knight (2008)

Corrected entry: If Harvey's eyelid was in fact burned off in the fire, leaving his eye intact, it would eventually fail to function and even be damaged beyond repair due to a lack of hydration which occurs through the process of blinking.

Correction: Correct! It would eventually dry up. Interesting medical fact. Not a movie mistake, though. It is never revealed in the movie if he is able to see out of the damaged eye; it may already be blind from the injury.

Jumanji (1995)

Corrected entry: When Alan has a shave and says that he's never done it before, his face is covered in cuts. A few seconds later, his face is shown completely clear again.

Correction: Alan has four to five small nicks that he has put toilet paper on. As he leads Judy and Peter into the kitchen you see him pulling the toilet paper off his face. Tiny shaving cuts are barely visible after they stop bleeding; Alan was in the bathroom long enough for the cuts to dry.

Uncle Buck (1989)

Corrected entry: When Buck kidnaps Tia's boyfriend "Bug" and puts him in the trunk of his car there is no way Bug could have survived because the automobile emissions and the gag in his mouth would have suffocated him.

Leonard Hassen

Correction: The gag was in his mouth, not covering his nose. He could breathe fine. As for the possibility of carbon monoxie poisoning, when the car was in motion the exhaust would trail behind the vehicle; with all the damage to the car there was plenty of fresh air from outside getting into the trunk.

Jumanji (1995)

Corrected entry: When the hunter traps the young girl and Sarah at the store and holds them at gun point, the young girl cracks a smile. Would you be smiling?

Correction: Character decision, not a movie mistake. She knows that Alan is Van Pelt's target; in fact, Van Pelt completely ignored Judy, Peter and Sarah when he first emerged at the house. Perhaps she's smiling because she knows she's not going to get shot.

Silkwood (1983)

Corrected entry: Honda Civics came out in 1972 and the movie takes place in 1974 but Karen's Honda Civic looks 10-12 years old as it is because the movie was made in 1983.

Correction: A poorly maintained vehicle can look old within a couple years. The filmakers tried to provide a faithful depiction of the actual events surrounding the Kerr-McGee "scandal", it is reasonable to believe that they got the best copy possible of Karen Silkwood's vehicle.
