Trivia: Igon Sirruss tells Valerian "I will find you and I will kill you," to which Valerian replies "Good luck." This dialog exchange is taken almost word-for-word from the film "Taken" as a bit of an inside joke, as "Valerian" director Luc Besson was also the producer and co-writer of the "Taken" film trilogy.
Trivia: There were rumors right up until the release that the film was a prequel to the 2004 superhero movie "Hellboy" - in no small part because both films feature an amphibious man played by actor Doug Jones as one of the lead characters, and both films were also directed by Guillermo del Toro. Despite the widespread speculation, del Toro consistently denied any plot or character associations between "The Shape of Water" and the Hellboy films.
Trivia: The ship we see Jack on in Salazar's flashback is called the Wicked Wench. This is a bit of an in-joke for PotC buffs, because that was the original name of the Black Pearl before being sunk by Cutler Beckett and raised again by Davy Jones. It's fully explained in a deleted scene of At World's End.
Trivia: When Hobbs gets sent to prison, Shaw calls him Hercules. Dwayne Johnson played Hercules in a previous movie.
Trivia: At the start of the film when Baby is walking with the coffees, the words to the song he is listening to are often seen on the walls as graffiti and on lamp posts as posters as he walks past.
Trivia: Diana is never referred to by any character as "Wonder Woman" in the film.
Trivia: In reality, Adolf Hitler ordered his commanders and troops to stand down and allow Allied forces to escape at Dunkirk. The German General von Blumentritt is quoted as saying "He (Hitler) then astonished us by speaking with admiration of the British Empire, of the necessity for its existence, and of the civilisation that Britain had brought into the world...He said that all he wanted from Britain was that she should acknowledge Germany's position on the Continent." But the exact reason for the order remains unknown.
Suggested correction: Hitler's controversial 'halt' order at Dunkirk had nothing to do with chivalry. The most widely accepted reason for the order is that the Wehrmacht Panzer units had been fighting continuously for two weeks, and badly needed some rest in preparation for Fall rot, phase two of the invasion of France. Infantry and air power continued to attack the Dunkirk pocket throughout the evacuation while the armoured units rested.
Trivia: Cheryl Hines plays Kristen Bell's mother in this film. In real life, Hines is only fifteen years older than Bell .
Trivia: Jared Leto asked to wear opaque contact lenses in order to play the blind Niander Wallace. He wanted to lose his ability to see to get into character.
Trivia: Retired make-up effects maestro Rick Baker (who did the Samara effects in the first two films before his retirement in 2015), has a small cameo as a man at the flea market in the film. While his lines were cut, he is still visible in the background of the scene. Members of his former makeup team took up the mantle and supplied the Samara effects in this sequel.
Trivia: While Lin (played by Jackie Chan) is in disguise and working in his daughter's school cafeteria, his name tag shows Jackie Chan. (00:31:25)
Trivia: "Blood Wars" has been confirmed to be the final "Underworld" to star Kate Beckinsale, and possibly the final film in the series. It was originally intended for there to be one final entry in the series featuring Beckinsale's trademark character Selene to finish off her storyline, but Beckinsale stated in late 2018 that she felt she had done "enough" films in the series and wasn't interested in reprising her role for a sixth film. After the film under-performed at the box office, there has also been no news on any future films, with series co-creator Len Wiseman instead expressing interest in rebooting the franchise as a television series.
Trivia: A character briefly mentions Ryan Gosling in the film. This is a bit of an inside joke, as the film's co-writer Ryan McHenry also created a popular meme based on Gosling called "Ryan Gosling won't eat his cereal."
Trivia: In the opening scene, one of the soldiers has "Bedtime for Bonzo" written on his helmet. This is a reference to the film with Ronald Reagan about an intelligent chimp.
