Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales

Plot hole: During the execution scene when Carina is on the gallows with a noose around her neck, the plot depends on Henry being able to get to her before she is dropped through the trap door. However, there is so much slack in the hanging rope that during the chaotic fighting, when Carina is left unattended, she could easily have stepped off the small trap door and onto the solid flooring that is inches away. Instead, she continues standing there, waiting to be rescued.

Suggested correction: That's not a mistake or plot hole. Sure it would have been wise of her to step aside, but not doing so isn't a mistake. In all the chaos, she could have been frozen, taking in everything that was going on around her & simply just didn't think to step away. Could happen to anyone in that situation.

Continuity mistake: In the movie Jack gets the compass from his former captain when he is dying in the battle with Salazar. In the second film we saw that Jack got the compass from Tia Dalma/Calypso.

New this week Suggested correction: At some point in time, Jack lost possession of the compass. He later bartered it back from Tia Dalma who'd acquired it.

Continuity mistake: When we see Jack inside the bank with the vault, there are three windows in the wall at the back of the room, but when the back of the building is seen with the pirates and horses, there is only one small window high up on the wall.

Plot hole: In this movie, it's established that Salazar is released because Jack gave away the compass. But in the second movie, he gave it to Will and Elizabeth, and in the third movie to Cutler Beckett. Wouldn't it have freed Salazar then too?

New this month Suggested correction: He'd only loaned its use previously, while maintaining ownership.

Continuity mistake: At the end when they board The Black Pearl from the anchor chain, all of the characters are virtually bone dry despite being soaked and submerged by the sea. Henry's sleeves are blowing in the wind.

Revealing mistake: During the bank chase at the beginning the bottom plank is a material skirt which moves forward and backwards revealing in some shots the wheels underneath the bank.
