The Magician (1973)

The Illusion of the Lethal Playthings - S1-E20

Revealing mistake: The "remote control" model plane lands and sneaks through some bushes to spy on Blake. You can see the filament line pulling it. And the picture it sends the bad guys with its mini-camera not only zooms in (unlikely technology in 1973), it also delivers an unobstructed view when the plane is sitting in foliage that should block part of the shot. The Lethal Eagle Affair - S1-E11

Revealing mistake: While Madame Gita is testing the death ray device, she orders Franz to go check the power. He trots off to obey, and in the process crosses, miraculously unscathed, directly in front of the "deadly" light beam. (00:42:15)

The Lethal Eagle Affair - S1-E11

Revealing mistake: Mark hides inside the grand piano - improbable (there's not enough room) unless the piano is a mock-up without any real harp or strings. And in fact, when he jumps out, you can see that there's nothing inside. Somehow, though, the piano still makes sounds when Dieter touches the keys. (00:27:00)

The Avengers (1961)

Bullseye - S2-E4

Revealing mistake: The secretary turns on the tape recorder to play back her employer's dictation. His voice starts speaking, but the tape reels aren't turning, and the button she pushed hasn't stayed depressed. Apparently, the machine isn't even on. (00:01:20)

The Avengers (1961)

The Decapod - S2-E3

Revealing mistake: In the midst of Steed's conversation with the wrestling referee, the camera loses focus and suddenly whip-pans away when it shouldn't. The actors continue their lines as the camera comes quickly back and refocuses on them. (00:19:45)

The Mata Hari Affair - S1-E4

Revealing mistake: The motorcycle chase is supposed to take place late at night. But in several shots, a cloud-strewn blue daytime sky can be seen, and long shadows on the streets indicate that the scene was actually shot either in the early morning or the late afternoon. (00:24:45)

The Prisoner of Zalamar Affair - S1-E2

Revealing mistake: Mark finds the bomb planted under his Jeep and puts it under the bad guy's car instead. When it explodes, there's a huge cloud of smoke, but before the shot cuts, you can see that the car is completely undamaged. (00:10:30)

The Mother Muffin Affair - S1-E3

Revealing mistake: The climactic chase occurs in an amusement park, supposedly in Brighton, England. But several things give away the real filming location, among them an ad for 15c (not 15p) snow cones, two very American-style phone booths, and best of all, a pole proudly sporting both a U.S. flag and a California state flag, visible in the background behind the phone booths. Blake's 7 (1978)

Gambit - S2-E11

Revealing mistake: When he sits on the floor in front of Servalan, Jarrier's earring falls off. He fumbles at it briefly, and then the actor breaks character for just a moment, glancing nervously at the camera. When it's apparent there won't be a retake, he goes on with his lines. (00:16:10)

It Takes a Thief (1968)

The Lay of the Land - S1-E16

Revealing mistake: Lori Chan picks Mundy up at the airport and proceeds to speed through town, spinning the steering wheel left, right and left again repeatedly. But the rear-screen projection behind them is showing footage from a car moving steadily in a straight line. (00:07:45)

Hawaii Five-O (1968)

Full Fathom Five - S1-E3

Revealing mistake: McGarrett's office is on the 2nd floor. Yet the photo backdrops outside his windows in this episode show us a ground-level view of grass, streets and a building. This boo-boo vanishes in subsequent episodes, replaced with the more likely views of balconies, palm trees and blue sky. (00:08:00)

The Fugitive (1963)

The Judgment (2) - S4-E29

Revealing mistake: The last scenes of the grand finale/climax occur in an abandoned amusement park that's supposed to be in inland Indiana. But several shots with the Pacific Ocean "lurking" in the background (despite the cameraman's best efforts to hide or avoid it), as well as palm trees, and ocean sounds intruding on the soundtrack, reveal that the actual shooting location was in Southern California. Show generally

Revealing mistake: "Stop When Red Lights Flash": In the cell with Kate, Weston puts on his mask, making only his head visible. But the blue-screen matte used for this special effect is, weirdly, showing through his blue eyes. (00:23:40)

The Fugitive (1963)

The Last Oasis - S4-E1

Revealing mistake: Within hours of being shot in the leg and having the bullet dug out without anesthetic (unless a slug of whiskey counts), Kimble is not even limping. (00:15:00)

The Fugitive (1963)

The Last Oasis - S4-E1

Revealing mistake: During the race through the desert in Annie's Jeep, the rear-screen projection couldn't be more obvious. In the supposedly speeding vehicle, Annie's hair is blowing slightly, but Kimble's never moves at all. (00:35:30)

The Invisible Man (1975)

Show generally

Revealing mistake: "Man of Influence": Weston sends the big black Lincoln Continental over a cliff. It's still a Lincoln on the way down, but then stock footage cuts in as it explodes, and it's suddenly a completely different car. (00:33:15)
