Continuity mistake: At Harry's bedroom window, the curved dirt line on the windshield is visible when Ron says, "Let's go," in the close-up, as the Ford Anglia begins to turn. In the next two shots as they pull away, the dirt line is different. When Ron yells, "Come on Harry, hurry up," and Harry passes Hedwig to Ron the dirt line is the same as the first shot. This goes back and forth in the remaining shots at the Dursleys. (00:09:15)

Continuity mistake: As the boys are sitting and eating at the Weasley kitchen table and then joined by Mr. Weasley, in every wide shot Ron sits a good distance away from the table, yet in the close-ups, he's tucked right up against the kitchen table. (Visible in DVD fullscreen format) (00:12:10)

Continuity mistake: As everyone watches Aunt Marge start to soar up into the air while in the yard, the position of the white lace tablecloth, which hangs off the table at this point and the things upon it, differ in the exterior shot looking in towards the dining room and the following interior shot of the table. Continuity mistake: At the Quidditch match, in the overhead close-up of Harry when he lands, the area of sand around him is visible. When Harry lifts up the Snitch and smiles, and in the next overhead shot as he begins to roll out of the way of the Bludger, the sand is still visible around his head. The tracks in the sand are different in each of these shots, but it's not been touched yet. (00:57:25)

Continuity mistake: In Transfiguration class, when Professor McGonagall says, "Yes, Miss Granger," the Ring-tailed Lemurs are playing at the bottom of their cage, but when McGonagall says, "You all know that Hogwarts was founded over a thousand..." the Lemurs are high on their perch, all nestled together. Then as McGonagall says, "Now, three of the founders coexisted quite harmoniously..." they're playing down below again. Yet, when McGonagall says, "...be kept within all-magic families. In other words, pure-bloods," they're back up on the perch, nestled together again. (00:48:50)

Continuity mistake: Charles enters Col. Potter's quarters while Potter is sleeping. Potter sits up in bed while Charles whines and complains about his sister's engagement. In all the shots facing Potter, the hair at the top of his head is very messy and pointing up. In every shot facing Charles, Potter's hair is normal.

Continuity mistake: As Harry chases the Snitch after his arm is broken, he reaches and catches it in the shot facing him. In the next side shot, as he begins to roll over while still balancing on top his broom, the attached foot rest is visible between his thighs. However, when he rolls under his broom then skids to the ground, it is clear that the foot rest is gone. Whether the foot rest is in the open or closed position, it would still be visible either above or below his leg. (00:57:20)

Continuity mistake: As Ron and Harry watch in the background, Crabbe and Goyle hold cupcakes that change position, then start eating Hermione's cupcakes. When the close-up faces Crabbe, the little bit of cupcake in Goyle's hand is visible. However, when Goyle rolls his eyes up as he begins to fall backwards, the cupcake in his hand is nearly whole. Continuity mistake: In Dumbledore's study, after speaking with the Sorting Hat, Harry walks toward Fawkes. As he passes Dumbledore's desk, on the corner of the desk there are some books lying on the side of the crystal ball. Then in the overhead shot as Harry says, "Your bird... He just caught fire," the books lie diagonally at the corner in front of the crystal ball. (01:14:50)

Continuity mistake: After being tossed out of the car, Ron and Harry chase after it when it drives off. In the wide shots, as they run through the outside corridor and when they stop at the arched doorway, their breath is visible in the air around them. Whereas their breath is not visible in the previous or following shots. (00:28:30)

Continuity mistake: When Harry is in Borgin & Burkes in Knockturn Alley, he approaches the glass dome with skulls sitting on the shelf and to the right is a large round mirror sitting atop a cabinet. When he walks away after freeing his hand from The Hand of Glory, in this wide shot there is now a very tall, ornate, wrought iron fixture behind him that stands beside the shelf, in front of the round mirror and cabinet, that was not in that previous shot. Continuity mistake: As Harry and Malfoy race to the Snitch, in the shot facing Colin as they approach him, the platform he stands on, the stairs to his left, etc., are all visible, as is the area below the platform, just under the Hufflepuff tarp which is in front of Colin, to his left. In the next shot as Harry and Malfoy zoom by, the platform and stairs are different and there is now a crate, with a basket and other things on top of it, sitting under the Hufflepuff tarp, etc. (00:56:25)

Continuity mistake: When the spider has Ron by the neck, Harry motions for Ron to move his head so he can take aim at the spider and yells, "Arania Exumai!" As the spider is forced away, in the close-up the back of Ron's head is positioned out his window. In the wide shot of the spider as it 'flies' away, Ron is sitting normally in the car. Yet, in the next close-up Ron's head is still positioned out of his window. (01:48:40)

Continuity mistake: The car races toward Harry and Ron in the Dark Forest and when it stops, the lantern lies on the ground beside the car's doors. However in the two shots, when Fang gets in (the first time) and when Ron gets in, the lantern is further away from the car. (01:47:55)

Continuity mistake: In the girls' lavatory, Lockhart tries to bolt so Harry and Ron stop him and push him back. When Harry says, "You first," in this first shot his cloak not only drapes over the sink to his left, it's also under his hand's tight grip of the sink's wall. However in the next shot, still gripping the wall, his cloak now hangs behind him. Then after Ron says, "Better you than us," Lockhart's cloak is positioned the same way as the first shot. (01:59:20)

Continuity mistake: The stripes on the knot of Harry's tie change position between certain shots, yet Harry does not redo his tie. For example, the diagonal red stripe is higher when he first speaks with Tom Riddle and lower when he kills Riddle and thanks Fawkes. (02:11:20 - 02:16:15)

Continuity mistake: The smudges on Harry's face and the dirt on Harry's cloak, pants, etc., change in consecutive shots, throughout the shots after the rock slide, within the Chamber of Secrets and thereafter. (02:04:00)

Continuity mistake: Harry pulls the sword out from the Basilisk's mouth, clutches at his right arm and the sword he holds has blood only at the tip. In the very next shot, as he clutches the tooth in his right arm, sword still in hand, there is now plenty of blood on the blade. (02:13:50)

Continuity mistake: When Harry says, "Tom. Tom Riddle," the shot faces Harry and Ginny, and Ginny's foot is parallel to the ground. In the next shot facing Riddle, Ginny's foot is perpendicular to the ground. When Harry asks, "Are you a ghost?" Ginny's foot is parallel. When Riddle says, "As poor Ginny grows weaker...," her foot is perpendicular to the ground once more and so forth. (02:04:50)

Continuity mistake: Tom Riddle says, "She won't wake" and walks toward Harry. When Harry says "Tom. Tom Riddle," the shot faces Harry and Ginny, and Harry's wand is lying on the open ground below the sole of Ginny's shoe. When Harry asks "Are you a ghost?" as the camera pans closer to Harry, his wand is conspicuously in a different place now, it is lying partially hidden under Ginny's robe above her right foot, right next to Harry. In the next shot after Riddle says, "A memory. Preserved...," the wand is gone from the previous shot's position. (Visible on DVD fullscreen.) (02:04:50)
