Continuity mistake: After Gennaro runs off to hide in the restroom there's a shot of the fence cables ripping apart, and in the following shot of the back of one of the Explorers note that it's missing its black roof vent (and rear wiper), but in following shots of Explorers 4 and 5 the vents are intact on both vehicles. Then just as the T. Rex starts pushing Explorer 4 upside-down its roof vent is gone (presumably, the vehicle missing the vent is a stunt vehicle).

Continuity mistake: While they're in Explorer 5, when Ian shows Ellie an example of "unpredictability" her watch reads 5:00, then when Ellie examines the Triceratops' tongue her watch has sped forward and reads approximately 6:05, and a moment later when Dr. Harding hands Ellie the flashlight her watch has run backwards, and now reads approx 5:40. Continuity mistake: When both Explorer vehicles are parked at the paddock, in the shot of the goat being raised to lure the T. Rex, the "No! Feeding..." sign is permanently affixed to the front of the concrete wall, but in the previous and following shots that same sign is affixed to the angled top part of the wall. Later, when the power goes out, that sign is once again affixed to the front of the concrete wall.

Continuity mistake: When Tim and Lex first arrive, Lex is wearing a purple tank top with a colorful design, and in the following scenes or even between consecutive shots her tank top changes to completely different designs, though it's the same style of tank top.

Continuity mistake: After the T. Rex rolls Explorer 4 upside-down with Lex and Tim inside, in the closeup when the dinosaur bites on the rubber tire we see the hub hole at the center of the wheel rim, but two shots later the wheel cover is back on the wheel.

Continuity mistake: When the Simpsons enter church they walk past Dr. Hibbert and he's wearing a solid black tie, but when Grampa has the outburst Dr. Hibbert is wearing a striped red tie. (Also, the stripes at the tie's knot are the same direction as the tie blade, though when tying the knot the stripes would be going the opposite direction).

Continuity mistake: In the first interior shot of the church, there are nine rows of pews on each side of the aisle, with Mr. Burns in the last pew on one side and Mrs. Glick in the last pew on the other side, but when Grampa starts rolling around on the floor there are eleven rows of pews, with two extra pews on both sides behind Burns and Glick. Additionally, the Reverend's wife is seated in the first pew, but just as Grampa shouts, "Trapped forever," we can see the back of an extra pew in front of Helen. (The front of the raised pulpit has vertical wood panels, and the pew is solid).

Continuity mistake: At church, seated in the pew behind the Simpsons are Moe and Kirk, and in the pew behind Moe and Kirk are Disco Stu, Professor Frink, and six other people, but just as Grampa shouts, "Trapped forever," in this one shot that entire pew with Disco Stu, the Professor, and all the other people has vanished, but then the pew reappears.

Continuity mistake: While Bart watches from the tree, Homer brushes the pig's hair and carries the animal out of the room, then Bart turns to see Ned tucking his kids in bed, and when Bart turns toward Homer again the lower window has a center muntin bar, but when Bart aims his slingshot at Homer that muntin bar has vanished.

Continuity mistake: When Marge is in the kitchen trying to figure out the meaning of "a thousand eyes", behind Grampa there are three spoons hanging from hooks, but when Marge tells Homer that the warning in church was about the pig, the spoons have vanished and instead there are three cups hanging in their place.

Continuity mistake: After the mob knocks down the front door Krusty tells Teeny to, "Take out the baby," and when Maggie breaks her bottle to take on Teeny, the monkey is standing on the fallen door, but in the next close-up he's standing on the floor beside the door.

Continuity mistake: When Marge is in the kitchen with Grampa wondering what "a thousand eyes" can be, over the telephone there's a notepad with writing hanging from a clip, but when Homer walks in with the pig the notepad is hanging from a string and the writing has disappeared, but then it switches back again.

Continuity mistake: When Homer and Bart are on the roof attempting to fix the shingles, Homer's wearing a tool belt around his waist with assorted tools, but when Homer shakes the antenna his tool belt has vanished (Homer's belly cannot hide that tool belt), but it reappears when Bart's hanging onto the gutter.

Continuity mistake: When Bill walks out of the TARDIS, her teddy bear is lying in the box she's carrying with its head to Bill's right. In the next shot from behind Bill as she sets the box down on the ground, the teddy is suddenly lying the opposite way. (00:06:45)

Continuity mistake: After Belle says good morning to Jean Potts, when she feeds the apple to the donkey note the rope (crosstie) is tied off at the donkey's throat, but in the next closeup the rope is tied off directly to the halter knot at its cheek.

Continuity mistake: After Belle gets the bread from the baker while she's singing, when she stops at the horse we see the halter rope looped twice around the horse's muzzle, but next shot it's wound around only once.

Continuity mistake: After Mary carries Elliott downstairs the government agents start entering her home, and in the next closeup of ET lying on the floor there's a large bath towel hanging over the side of the bathtub, but in the next shot of ET from behind the "spacesuit", there's now a small bath mat (same color as the previous towel) hanging over the side of the tub.

Continuity mistake: In the exterior front shots of Elliott's house there are some significant changes to the landscape in different shots. For instance, the two lampposts at the bottom of the driveway change to an entirely different style in some shots, and the huge garden boulders repeatedly vanish and reappear. Also, note when Michael takes off on Elliott's bike to go search for ET, the in-ground lamppost that should be beside the mailbox has vanished, but it reappears when all the government agents are setting things up outside the house.

Continuity mistake: While Elliott and ET are saying goodbye, in the original 1982 version in the shot facing Elliott, ET lifts his right hand to point his finger at Elliott's forehead and ET's finger glows (note the weird angle of ET's raised right hand), but in the next shot facing ET when he says the iconic words, "I'll be right here," it's actually ET's left hand up by Elliott's face. This was digitally corrected in the 2002 version, so that in the first shot ET lifts up his left hand.
