300 (2006)

Corrected entry: In this movie, Xerxes is told to have employed war elephants against the Spartans. The Greek - along with the Macedonians - actually never encounter elephants until the Battle of Gaugamela, in 331 BC - 149 years later.

Correction: Xerxes also didn't have bagpipe playing goatmen, or blade-armed executioners. This isn't a documentary. It's a highly stylized, highly fictionalized account of a historical event.

Ghost (1990)

Corrected entry: When Sam returns to Oda Mae's, a few other ghosts are seen entering. When they enter, it makes the sound effect for a ghost passing through a solid object. However, the door is wide open so they aren't passing through it. (01:18:05)

Correction: But there are ghosts entering the room through the wall, they're just off-camera.

Epic Movie (2007)

Corrected entry: When Edward meets the queen, she zaps the elf guy. On the second time she does it, you see the "Elf" land on the right side of the car. He gets up on the left side. He pulls forward a little bit, and if you go in slow-mode, you can see the doll in the left seat. About two or three shots later, you see another shot later where you can see the right seat, and the doll is gone.

Douglas Leathem

Correction: He could have fallen on one side but gotten up, bringing himself back into view, on the other. And if you have to use slo-mo to see the doll, it's not valid as per the rules of this site.

Star Wars (1977)

Corrected entry: When Luke (disguised as a stormtrooper) goes in the room (where Ben goes away), right when Luke closes the door, (for the first time) if you see Frame-by-frame, the door shakes left and right as it comes down. (it could be spotted through normal time, too.).

Douglas Leathem

Correction: This isn't a mistake. One could argue that the door just needs some lubricant, but even without an explanation I don't see how this could be considered an error on the part of the film makers.

Corrected entry: Once Buford went to jail, there was no hurry to get back to the future; as they did not have to leave before one of them got shot. Bearing that in mind, why did they chase after the 8 o'clock train? They didn't have much time to do that, which made it extremely difficult. They could've easily just used a train on a later date, one with plenty of time to plan out the experiment.

Correction: Just because the known danger has passed certainly does not mean that all danger has. That uncertainty would be more frightening to me than knowing the exact moment of my death. They only knew that Doc wasn't going to die until such and such date. Now that they've changed that, who knows what could happen. Rattlesnake, stray bullet, etc. It's best to get back as quickly as possible.

Waterworld (1995)

Corrected entry: If there were enough ice on the planet that, when melted, would raise the ocean levels to the extent shown in the movie, then the saltwater would be diluted enough to be drinkable, negating the plot point about "hydro" being such a valuable commodity.

wizard_of_gore

Correction: The salt must have come from somewhere else. It is a naturally occurring mineral, after all.

Corpse Bride (2005)

Corrected entry: At Victor's and Victoria's wedding rehersal victor drops the ring,it slips under Victoria's mothers dress,as Victor gets it out he leaves the candle. In a result setting Victoria's mother on fire well as Victoria's dad says "get out of the way you ninny!" look carefully at the candle its fire has "transported" to Victoria's mothers dress leaving the candle burnt out. Wouldn't the candle still be alight?

Correction: Probably not. A single flame burning on a wick is fairly easy to, even accidentally, extinguish. Whereas the relatively larger fire feeding off of her clothing would be much more resilient.

Liar Liar (1997)

Corrected entry: After Fletcher has beat himself up in the bathroom, he is dragged back into the courtroom by a guard. He then tells the judge that he was beaten up and he even gives a description of the assailant - he is supposed to be impervious to lying.

Correction: He's not lying: he describes himself. That's the joke. That's why Fletcher closes his mouth over his "big teeth."

Corrected entry: Throughout the movie, the Sergeant refers to themselves as the "US National Guard". It is simply "National Guard". The National Guard does not belong to the US as a whole, but to the states. The US Army is the federal government's military force.

Correction: The Sergeant means "US National Guard" to stand for the United States' National Guard. Apostrophe appearing after the "s" to denote the the plurality of the noun. I know several people currently in the National Guard, and they have all referred to it like this on several occasions.

Corrected entry: The Roman leader depicted in the Ancient Rome display is Octavius. The Coliseum, which is also featured in the display, was built more than sixty years after his death.

Correction: It's a diorama. The museum is creating a scenario, not depicting a historical event.

Cars (2006)

Corrected entry: In the final race, Lightning gets hit by Chick and almost loses it in the grass, but he is able to regain his composure and get in front of the King and Chick. He passes them on the grass and that is illegal in NASCAR. If a car passes another by passing the interior line to get around them, that driver is automatically to the back of the pack.

Correction: This isn't NASCAR.

Phixius

Besides, it's not Lightning crossing the interior line intentionally. Chick hit him and he manoeuvres his way back on instead on just stopping.

Cars (2006)

Corrected entry: In the final race, Chick purposely grinds against Lightning which in turn causes a blow out. In NASCAR you can't deliberately hit someone to get a higher position.

Correction: This isn't NASCAR.

Corrected entry: At the beginning of the movie there is a mystery vehicle hidden in the lab of Reed Richards (plastic man). He designed this and no one knows anything of it. Later on in the movie, it is revealed and the fantastic four go for a ride in it. The vehicle breaks apart into three flying machines and despite no one else having any previous knowledge of the vehicle, each team member is able to expertly fly their own section of the craft.

Correction: Flight controls are pretty similar across the board. It's not a stretch to assume they all know how to fly a plane. I landed a plane my first time in a cockpit.

Lost in Space (1998)

Corrected entry: At the end of the film they don't have enough power to escape the planet but they do have enough power to run the hyperdrive?

Correction: A hyperdrive engine is separate from the standard drive engines, and therefore most likely has a separate power source.

Apocalypto (2006)

Corrected entry: Even though the entire tribe was taken captive at the beginning of the film, when Jaguar Paw returns home he is able to kill the bad guy using the trap that killed the wild boar in the beginning. In the interest of safely, it is unlikely that such a dangerous trap would be left set all the time, and the men of the tribe were not out hunting at the time of their capture. Further, it is doubtful that one man would be able to set such a trap by himself, especially in the amount of time shown, so it is unlikely that Jaguar Paw found the trap sprung and set it up all by himself.

Correction: Since OSHA didn't exist at this time, I don't think they were too worried about "safety on the job." They were probably more concerned with catching enough food to survive. They'd leave the traps set to increase their chances of catching more tapir. The hunters knew where the traps were and what the catches looked like; their chances of getting hurt were pretty low.

Corrected entry: The established continuity of traveling through fireplaces tells us that to do so, one must throw floo powder into the fireplace you are using, then state your destination. However, during the battle between Voldemort and Dumbledore, Bellatrix Lestrange simply crawls into a fireplace and leaves. Even if she didn't care about her destination, she still skipped the important first step- the floo powder was never thrown in.

Correction: These fireplaces are used exclusively for floo powder travel. It's likely the ministry keeps the fires on a constant supply.

Phixius

Corrected entry: During the scenes where "Dumbledore's Army" are practicing their spells, at one point they are using the spell 'Levi Corpus'. It is not until the next book (The Half Blood Prince) that this spell is actually discovered and used.

Correction: Book/Film discrepancies are not valid movie mistakes. The spell doesn't even do, in the books, what the movie shows it to do. But that's not a mistake either.

Phixius

Correction: James Potter used it on Snape at school and the death eaters used it on the muggle campsite owner at the quidditch World Cup. Both of these events happened before this film, meaning its not beyond probability that they would know it.

Patrick Smith

How would Harry or Hermione, who are main teachers, know the incantation for the charm?

Ssiscool

Corrected entry: At the beginning, when Joel and Clementine meet on the train after their memories have been erased, Clem mentions she doesn't want jokes about her name, and Joel doesn't know what she's talking about. However, in the memory if them meeting for the first time on the beach, Clem says to Joel the same thing, and Joel sings "oh my darling, oh my darling, oh my darling Clementine." He should have known of at least the song on the train.

Correction: No he shouldn't. He had every thing that might trigger of memory of her erased. A song with her name in it would do just that. This was the whole point of putting that line in the movie; it's not a plot hole, it's a plot point.

Monk (2002)

Correction: Your DNA has to be on record for them to immediately know who you are. If it's not, then they have to take a sample from you and match the two up, and they can't even force you to provide a DNA sample without sufficient evidence pointing toward you. Apparently the killer didn't have a sample of his DNA on record.

Phixius

Corrected entry: At the beginning of the book, Harry is given a gift by Sirius. This is a gift that he does not open until after Sirius is dead, and he finds it to be a communication mirror. Not once in the rest of the entire book is this present mentioned. Even when Harry uses the fireplace and risks everything to talk to Sirius, Sirius does not mention opening his present, and during the weeks of Christmas break, when they are actually face to face, no one mentions it either. This is a valid plot hole because it is highly unbelievable that such a valuable gift would have ended up in Harry's hands and not used. With that mirror in use, most of the miscommunication in the book would have been avoided, making the plot seem suspiciously forced.

Correction: It states explicitly that Harry pushed it out of his mind to avoid risking Sirius's freedom. It wasn't at the beginning of the book that he received it either, it was a Christmas gift; and no one knew about it except Harry and Sirius, hence the lack of discussion. Simply put, Harry deliberately forgot all about it. He even laments having done so after he finds out what it was.
