Character mistake: Liesl sings "I Am 16" with Rolfe before she is ever taught to sing "Do Re Mi" by Maria. We are led to believe the children have no concept of singing, so how was she able to sing this song before learning to sing? (00:41:00 - 00:42:00)

Suggested correction: They certainly know about singing. It's just been banned in the house since their mother died. Liesl, as the oldest, would have had the most experience of it.

They tell Maria they don't know how to sing at all after this scene.

luchador

I thought they said they didn't know any songs; that's not exactly the same as not knowing how to sing.

Grease 2 (1982)

Corrected entry: At the beginning you see the coach scouting basketballers when track is going on. That same day the coach is getting the T-Birds ready for football. It's like the school has all three major sports going on at the same time.

Correction: When Michael is talking to Frenchy by the fence, you can hear him say, "How's your first week been?" It's safe to assume the sports were held on different days.

I think the point is that all three are played in different seasons: football is fall, basketball is winter, and track is in spring.

LorgSkyegon

Where I grew up, football began in late summer before school started, basketball tryouts were in mid autumn, and cross country was within the first week of classes. Maybe that's why it looks like all three are at the same time?

Happy Gilmore (1996)

Other mistake: When Happy makes the bet with the movers to see if he can drive the ball, the mover bets him $20, then says double or nothing. When he pays Happy, he only gives him one bill. You see Happy holding only one bill while thinking about making money that way.

Madagascar (2005)

Corrected entry: The leader of the penguins addresses Marty the Zebra as "my monochromatic friend". A zebra, having two colors, is bichromatic.

Correction: No. Monochromatic only means you use one color. Black can always be represented as it is 0% of that color, regardless of which. Even if you have monochromatic red light, you can show/see every shade from pitch black to full monochromatic red, an unlimited amount of shades using monochromatic light. To refer to white as monochromatic is somewhat strange as it uses all possible colors but I would definitively say a zebra is more monochromatic than bichromatic.

Andreas Winnberg

Correction: Here we have the classic square and rectangle definitional situation. All black and white is monochromatic, but not all monochromatic is black and white.

LorgSkyegon

Correction: Color theory does not take light spectrum science into account, at least not basic color theory like this. Zebras are achromatic, defined by its use of tints and shades, i.e. black and white, and absence of color.

Lethal Weapon 4 (1998)

Factual error: Riggs shoots Ku to death with the AK-47 underwater. Guns can fire underwater, but the bullet loses most of its killing velocity. This would have been unable to kill Ku.

Suggested correction: If Wah Sing Ku was far away, this would be true. But Riggs is shooting with the barrel pressed directly against Wah's chest. It's definitely lethal at that range.

The Dumpling Paradox - S1-E7

Trivia: Sheldon tells Penny not to sleep with her head close to the door because a headboard is always oriented away from the door; yet in later episodes, we see Sheldon in the exact sleeping spot that he told Penny not to sleep in. At this point I am referring to Pennys' sleep over whilst on Sheldons' couch.

Correct on the couch when she had the sleepover.

Double Jeopardy (1999)

Plot hole: For a convicted murderer who violated her parole and assaulted her parole officer while escaping custody, Ashley Judd moves around the country and even boards airplanes with little to no problems.

Upvote valid corrections to help move entries into the corrections section.

Suggested correction: She was simply careful. There's constant manhunts for much more serious felons and parolees on the lam who seem capable of moving around without getting caught.

How did she keep the gun if she flew across the country?

She likely put the gun in her bag and then checked it with other passengers' luggage at the airport. As long as she wasn't carrying the gun on her, it would go through.

raywest

She could have checked the gun in her luggage. Most countries and airlines allow that.

But what about having to go through metal detectors and placing anything she's carrying with her through an X-ray machine? Either one of these would have caught her with an illegal weapon. Don't airports always check luggage to ensure nothing dangerous is being taken on board a plane?

In the United States, it is perfectly legal to carry an unloaded gun and ammunition in checked baggage. You are required to declare it and to store it in a locked, hard-sided container.

Other mistake: During the spelling bee segment during the news report, three spellers are somehow competing for the silver medal. How can they be competing for the silver medal? The silver medal is given to the player in second place after they lose to the first place speller when there are only two spellers left.

Suggested correction: It's possible that all three failed to spell a previous word, which was then spelled correctly by the winner, and now the three are seeing who is going to get second place.

Spider-Man 3 (2007)

Stupidity: Eddie Brock creates a fake Spider-Man photo and J. Jonah Jameson, due to his resentment towards Spider-Man, accepts it without question. Jameson should have inspected the photo before making it public.

Upvote valid corrections to help move entries into the corrections section.

Suggested correction: That is firmly within JJJ to do that. If being stupid about something is still in character and he would realistically do it, then it's not a mistake.

Quantom X

To add, after the physical confrontation between Eddie and Peter, when Robbie asks if there's a problem, Peter gives Robbie the pictures and then says that Jameson should have checked the sources.

Suggested correction: Jameson is not a forensic photographic examiner, nor does he have a photographic memory of the pictures that Peter sold him. It would take great knowledge of both for him (or anyone) to easily see the forgery.

Common mistakes

Corrected entry: Villains who find out about the protagonist's actions through the media and public news, such as displaying their name or picture on TV, newspapers, and the internet. Such personal information is strictly confidential exactly for this purpose and never happens unless the protagonist provides their consent for it to be allowed, but we never see any of that being seen or implied. It's a device often used for the purpose of advancing the plot in a quick manner.

Movielover1996

Correction: 1. Just because we haven't seen something doesn't mean it didn't take place. 2. Much of the time, this would be public information. 3. You can easily find the address or phone number of someone online (or through phone books depending on the era).

LorgSkyegon

Correction: This is absolutely ridiculous. I mean, come on... there have been multiple major news stories lately regarding certain high-profile events where suspects' names and/or images have been plastered all over the media. How could you say this? Also, personal information is no longer personal. You can find anything at the click of a button. I know a guy who's a cop, and I can find his picture and address in 30 seconds with a Google search.

South Park (1997)

Whale Whores - S13-E11

Corrected entry: Cartman sings "Poker Face" by Lady Gaga while playing Rock Band. He sings the lyrics, "P-p-p-poker face, p-p-poker face." However, the actual lyrics to the song are, "P-p-p-poker face, f-f-f*** her face." The South Park version of this song is cleaner than the actual song. (00:04:08)

zenee

Correction: It's not the South Park version; it's the Rock Band version. In a game that would be played by children, the game certainly couldn't have that kind of language, so the game uses the radio edit.

LorgSkyegon

Believe it or not, this song actually played completely uncensored on radio stations. That's the version that most people have heard, and most people are not aware that those lyrics are in the song. I'm just more inclined to believe that the show's creators were one of those that didn't catch it, because with South Park being what it is, I really don't see why they wouldn't just go for it if they did catch it.

zenee

The game Rock Band literally uses the radio edit version where the swear words are not used. This shows that they are correct, not that they missed something.

LorgSkyegon

Corrected entry: Judge Doom is run over by a steam roller, flattening him in the process. He later inflates himself, which results in a pair of glass eyes popping out of his head and landing at his feet. Considering they were made of glass due to the sound they make when striking the floor, they should have been crushed when the steam roller rolled over his head and, by extension, his glass eyes. (01:28:51 - 01:29:56)

NeoMatrix

Correction: Given that Doom is a cartoon in a world where the laws of physics don't always seem to apply, this doesn't seem to be a mistake.

LorgSkyegon

Correction: 1. It's a cartoon; the rules of the "real world" don't apply. 2. It's not a plot hole. The plot of the movie isn't broken because this happens. Even if they were crushed, by cartoon rules, they could have reformed afterwards anyway.

There is one flaw in your argument. The glass eyes were not "toon-related"; they were live-action, thus "real." They should obey the laws of reality given their makeup.

Major League (1989)

Corrected entry: Throughout the movie Jake Taylor bats second in the lineup. No sane manager would ever put his 30-something-year-old catcher, with bad knees, in the two hole. Slow base runners tend to hit into a lot of double plays, which would negate Willie Mays Hays' speed advantage at the top of the line-up.

Correction: True, but remember, Lou Brown was working at a tire store before he was the Indians' manager. He isn't exactly Joe Torre.

Rachel Phelps said that Lou Brown had managed the Toledo Mud Hens for the past 30 years.

Correction: Mud Hens are never explained where they play. They could be semi-pro, minor league or bush league. They could be an under-15 team. He has no major league experience and didn't seem overly interested to start with. We can assume he doesn't have the best baseball instinct to begin with.

Phelps says the Toledo Mud Hens of the International League, which are Triple-A. Someone who has been in baseball as long as Charlie would certainly know this.

Euphoria (1) - S2-E20

Factual error: The patient is diagnosed with legionnaire's disease, caught from the AC unit above their desk. The legionella bacteria causing the disease is found in warm water (commonly dehumidifiers, industrial AC cooling towers, hot water tanks) - the key point being that a water source is required. The problem with this is that the AC unit above the patient's desk is a window unit. These sorts of AC units don't use water as a coolant - you can't catch legionnaire's from them.

swordfish

Suggested correction: They don't use water as a coolant, but they can collect water that condensed from the cold inside the unit.

LorgSkyegon

Which still doesn't allow for legionella to breed, not least the limited amount of collected water drains away (i.e. not like in water tanks and cooling towers). Healthcare professionals have consistently confirmed that window AC units aren't legionella risks for this reason. If you check the CDC website, it explicitly states that window AC units aren't potential legionella sources.

My Cousin Vinny (1992)

Corrected entry: The D.A. ends the court case by dismissing the charges against the defendants. Prosecutors don't dismiss cases - they can offer no evidence, effectively ending the case under trial, but only a judge can dismiss charges. This is not a character mistake - the legal difference is critical and no lawyer as highly placed as a state DA would ever make a mistake like that.

Correction: His actual words were "The State would like to dismiss all charges". He simply requested that the judge dismiss them, which the judge did.

Then he should have said, "The State would like all charges to be dismissed." He states that the State wants to dismiss the charges themselves. The posting is valid and should be reinstated as a character mistake.

This is incorrect. At any time during a trial, either side can make a motion for dismissal. While you may not like the specific wording he uses, he is doing what he is supposed to do as prosecutor: dismissing a case once it is clear that the defendants are not guilty.

Hey Arnold! (1996)

Correction: Plenty of people don't look before sitting down. I once had someone put a pin on my seat in school and I didn't see it.

LorgSkyegon

I can understand one not catching a small pin on their seat (or clear coloured glue). In fact, that is a pretty common prank. The thing is, Helga put a whole bunch of white glue on Arnold's chair, something so blatantly visible, unlike the other stuff I mentioned. It's just strange to me that Arnold wouldn't see something like that before sitting down in his chair. This also goes for my other entry that you added the same correction for.
