Jurassic Park (1993)

Corrected entry: Ellie locks the outside handle of the freezer with the steel pin, but somehow the second raptor gets out.

Correction: You're confusing two of the raptors here. Ellie locked one in the electrical area, but there may yet be another way out. Lex locked the one in the freezer, which is probably dead after that. There was still the third raptor there.

Game of Thrones (2011)

Cripples, Bastards, and Broken Things - S1-E4

Corrected entry: When Jon talks to Sam about almost having sex with Ros, he says that their child, in case of a pregnancy, would have been a bastard named Snow as well. This is impossible, because the bastard surnames (like Snow in the North) are only for acknowledged children of noblemen. Jon's children wouldn't have the right to carry a surname, as he's not a nobleman.

Tanngrisnir

Correction: Actually, it is just for noblemen. Bastards of smallfolk (the peasantry) in Westeros do not receive a bastard surname, only those of noble birth do. But Jon is not smallfolk. Despite being a bastard, he is indeed of noble birth and children of noble bastards are allowed to take the surname for themselves and most do.

LorgSkyegon

Correction: Any child born out of wedlock is a bastard. It's not just a name for noblemen, even peasants have to get married to legitimize their children. Snow is also not a surname, so if Jon and Ros would get married and have a child that child will not be called Snow like his/her father.

lionhead

Bastard surnames are indeed only for high-born because smallfolk in Westeros do not have or use surnames. Children of unmarried smallfolk may be bastards, but they do not get a bastard surname. Trueborn children of high-born bastards may take the bastard surname or change it if they like.

Corrected entry: In the computer room, when the operator enters the room we see an overhead shot and the room has a highly polished floor. We see the reflections of everything, but the operator doesn't notice the reflection Hunt would have made by hanging from the ceiling. It would be very noticeable on the floor even if he wasn't looking straight down - the reflection would be well within his field of view.

Correction: What a load of old dingo's kidneys. Normal human eyesight takes in much, much more that a few degrees straight ahead! Can you see the floor or ceiling when you are standing upright? Of course you can - it's called peripheral vision. Hunt would stand out like a dog's. Well, he'd be visible, put it that way.

Where you are focused on something, your peripheral vision severely reduces. Donlow was so focused on (and confused by) the knife stuck in the desk that he simply didn't take notice of any reflection.

LorgSkyegon

We also have to remember that he's been puking his guts out. That right there can take every ounce of focus to get through your day. Plus as mentioned, the knife. He's wondering how a knife got into a secure vault. It doesn't take him long to figure out someone made a download, so he reports the breach.

Correction: You're assuming the operator would look at the floor. He simply didn't look down.

Correction: He also may have gotten the idea for doing magic to get girls to his room, but actually started doing it to cheer up his mother.

LorgSkyegon

Correction: And Wolowitz is known to exaggerate the truth.

Captain Marvel (2019)

Corrected entry: Inside the Blockbuster in 1995, there is a poster for the movie "Babe." Babe did not get a home video release until March of 1996.

Correction: Video rental stores often had posters of movies still in theaters or coming soon to home video.

LorgSkyegon

Correction: Babe came in theaters in August of that year. It would have been a poster of a movie not even in theaters. The original entry is absolutely correct.

The Addams Family (1991)

Corrected entry: When Thing tries to use sign language to signal to Gomez that Morticia is in danger, what he spells out is complete gibberish. There are a few Gs, Ns and Es but nothing that resembles an actual word.

wizard_of_gore

Correction: That's the point. Thing is panicking and unable to focus on doing it right.

LorgSkyegon

Correction: It is not required that this show share the exact same continuity as the games. Even if it did, there is nothing stopping this from being a previous version, or a merging of the two, or the dead Sub-Zero being given his name and powers.

Coco (2017)

Corrected entry: After Coco died Hector should be forgotten and disappear from the land of the dead because his daughter was the only person who knew him in life, even from pictures according what he said to Miguel about Chicha.

oswal13

Correction: According to the rules of the film, it's not that someone had to have known you in life, it's that you are remembered. That's part of the plot; Hector will disappear because Coco is the only one who remembers him. When hearing her father's music "brings her back" she starts telling the family stories about him, so he'll continue to be remembered.

Correction: In addition, Chicharron has already been forgotten. He can't come back just because Miguel remembers him from the land of the dead.

LorgSkyegon

Plot hole: In the famous raid on the computer room raid, where Hunt is lowered from the ceiling, we see a close up of the screws to the vent being undone and caught in a holder so they don't fall on the floor. But the screws cannot be put back in their holes and done up once the vent is closed, and there is not enough time for Hunt to be pulled back up and the vent closed and screws replaced when the operator returns to the room, as Hunt was pulled back up with seconds to spare.

Suggested correction: They would not have to use screws to reattach it. They could use tape, glue, or magnets.

Coming to America (1988)

Corrected entry: While at the engagement party, Lisa steps outside to be on the swings and invites Akeem to talk. They have no coats on, show no signs of cold, and we can't see their breath. But when they were standing outside of McDowell's and emptying the trash everyone was dressed for winter.

ckbyers

Correction: Akeem puts his red coat on Lisa because she is rubbing her arms trying to keep warm because she stormed out without thinking because she was angry. You can't always see your breath when it's cold out. And some people can handle the cold more than others without showing signs.

LorgSkyegon

I was focusing more on the seeing the breath than I was the clothing - but was making the comparison that during the trash scene, the breath - as they're dressed appropriately for winter. I know over a period of time, you can not see your breath - but it requires being out in the cold for several hours (i.e. see thriller movie "Frozen" for reference on the "making of"). When he first walks out from a warm house to the "cold" outside... you should at the very least see his first couple of sentences... from either him or her.

ckbyers

Corrected entry: Willy Wonka says the reason he sent out the tickets was because he needed a child to run the factory. However, there were many adults trying to find a ticket. All five ticket winners could've easily been adults. So his plan could've very likely failed, and he could've easily been forced to give the factory to an adult, even though he said he wouldn't trust one.

MikeH

Correction: Wonka would have easily thought of this, and considering one of his aides was there at each time, he planted the bars for kids to find.

Ssiscool

Correction: Given that Slugworth/Wilkinson was at every location when the ticket was found, Wonka obviously didn't simply put them in random bars.

Corrected entry: When Robin battles the Sheriff's men under the tree by the wall, he takes a crossbow from the horse and shoots one of the men in the stomach. Moments later after the battle the soldier can be seen with the arrow protruding from his head.

Correction: Robin shoots two men with crossbows: one in the stomach through his hand, one in the head.

Correction: When bringing her to lunch with the other guys, Sheldon specifically says "You may remember Dr. Nowitski" and they reply. They obviously do remember meeting her.

LorgSkyegon

Correction: As the other correction states he introduces her by saying you may remember. Sheldon is also very literal and skeptical of Penny's memory, having had to explain most things for a decade.

Jaws (1975)

Corrected entry: Though the movie takes place in midsummer, many of the townfolks are dressed for much cooler weather.

Correction: As an island off the coast of New England, even the summer temperatures are extremely moderate. Martha's Vineyard, which Amity is based on, has an average July temperature of 63-79°. Combined with an offshore wind, it would feel even cooler.

Jurassic Park III (2001)

Corrected entry: At the beginning of the film, when the boat crew is killed, why isn't the boat itself destroyed? Yes, the top is a bit damaged but the main body of the boat is fine. A creature that could kill the whole crew in that short space of time would surely damage the rest of the boat as well. Even a modern day crocodile can easily smash a hole in the side of a small boat just using its tail.

Correction: The Pterosaurs only attack the humans for invading their territory (and in the process, they damage the flimsy roof of the boat that was sheltering a human). They were not out to destroy a boat.

SoylentPurple

Is it ever explicitly stated anywhere what dinosaur attacks the boat?

In the original script it said that there were to also be scenes where Grant sees foot prints and other evidence. The opening shot was done before the final script was done. They used that scene for the opening and did not re-shoot it.

Not to mention that a crocodile is extremely strong and tough, while any flying animal would be considerably less so.

LorgSkyegon

Correction: It was said that they wanted to have it be the pterosaurs who attacked the boat but cut the scene as it conflicted with the script since they were still locked in the cage at the time.

M*A*S*H (1972)

Correction: "Blitzen" is never called a drone in the show. All we see is Radar calling the name repeatedly as if to a tame animal, then exhibiting fear and fleeing.

Doc

Correction: Since it did sting him, it seems that Radar had misidentified it as a drone.

LorgSkyegon

Sorry, dude, but that's not a valid rebuke. Had Radar identified Blitzen as a drone (which he didn't) then it would be a valid character mistake.

Big Fish (2003)

Factual error: Just before Edward Bloom parachutes on his secret mission during the Korean War (1950-1953), he looks at his wristwatch. The camera shot of his wristwatch shows the second hand advancing one entire second at a time, indicative of a quartz watch. The quartz watch would not be invented until 1960 by Bulova. Prior to that watches used an escapement movement in which the second hand "tics" at a finer and smoother rate.

Upvote valid corrections to help move entries into the corrections section.

Suggested correction: Remember that what we are seeing is William's mental picture of the stories his father told him. He never lived in a time without watch movement like that and therefore would think it moved like that.

School Ties (1992)

Corrected entry: When Mr. Gierasch finds Charlie's cheat sheet on the floor he apparently has no idea who it belongs to, but he could have simply compared the handwriting on it to the handwriting on all of the students' exams - whichever exam matched the handwriting on the cheat sheet would have immediately exposed the cheater (Charlie). Mr. Gierasch would certainly have been intelligent enough to think of doing that as opposed to the way the sequence plays out only to benefit the movie's plot.

Correction: We see during the student meeting that Gierasch told them it was block printed. Charlie intentionally disguised his writing in case he was caught.
