Get Smart (2008)

Corrected entry: When Max is near Agent 23 on the helicopter roof pad, Max's watch geiger counter doesn't go off, but later, outside the Concert Hall building, it does.

Correction: That is because he didn't turn the Geiger counter on until outside the concert hall. His Geiger was not on earlier in the film at the weapon plant as well.

Corrected entry: Polly Perkin's charm bracelet has several pennies attached. The foremost penny shows the Lincoln Memorial. This penny did not replace the wheat penny until 1959. 20 years after this movie "took place". (00:23:45)

Correction: This film "took place" in an alternate fictional timeline where the RAF has a flying aircraft carrier and the aircraft are submersible. Unless you can provide some evidence about when various pennies were taken out of service in this alternate fictional timeline, the mistake is not valid.

Jurassic Park (1993)

Corrected entry: When the t-rex is running after Malcolm, Ellie and Robert, it shouldn't take them so long to go faster than 30 mph (which is what John Hammond mentioned earlier in the film that they had clocked the t-rex at). If you really need to, you can go to faster than 30 mph in less than 20 seconds (depending on how fast you can get the revs high enough to change gear), so why does it take Robert a minute or two? He should have been away from the t-rex before Malcolm went anywhere near the stick. Considering there's a massive monster ready to eat them, wouldn't you be speeding away as fast as the jeep will go? Even conceding a muddy road with trees on either side - they are in a four wheel drive jeep and the trees would shield the road from much of the rain, making it not quite as muddy as the earlier shots when the t-rex attacked. The jeep is built for these types of conditions, plus Robert (the driver) has been all over the world tracking animals; there is no doubt he has been driving jeeps in all sorts of weather and would be quite an expert at it.

tattoojunkie

Correction: Firstly, it doesn't take 2 minutes to get away from the T-Rex as you describe. And it is doubtful that Muldoon's experience at driving jeeps extends to being chased by a T-Rex that became extinct 65 million years ago.

Half a Life - S4-E22

Corrected entry: When Lwaxana is in the transporter room demanding to transport down to the planet, O'Brien leaves Lwaxana and Troi alone. Before he does, he enters a code to lock the transporter panel, and the word LOCKED appears inside a red rectangle. At the end of the scene, when the camera pans out, the word LOCKED is no longer there.

wizard_of_gore

Correction: The word LOCKED appeared to tell O'Brien that his command was carried out. Then the label disappears. Just as when I lock my car, the indicators all flash once, and then turn off.

The Matrix (1999)

Corrected entry: While explaining the Construct, Morpheus tells Neo, "Your appearance now is what we call residual self image. It is the mental projection of your digital self." What he really meant is, "It is the digital projection of your mental self." (00:40:00)

Correction: The concept of a mental projection of one's digital self is rooted in the idea that the person's memory of how they looked (in this case, curated through years of living in an illusory digital reality) is going to manifest itself within any simulation that allows it. Because Neo lived in the matrix, he has a mental image of what he should look like (his digital self). So the line in the movie is correct.

No, it is not correct. As explained by others above (and overwhelmingly upvoted by other site users), it would still be a digital projection of your mental self. There actually is no digital self. It's just a digital projection. It is what is in the mind that is the self and what the film values as the core of an individual. "The body cannot live without the mind," as Morpheus says. Also, it is in the mind where we believe. Throughout the film, the mind is central. Thus, the correction stands.

Those living in the Matrix are digital representation of themselves. Which is why Neo has hair in the Matrix but is bald in the real world. When in the construct, Neo has hair again because that's how he remembers himself, which was his digital self, not his real self.

Bishop73

Correction: That is not a mistake, Morpheus spoke correctly. They are in the construct, therefore it is Neo's digital self. His clothes and hair are his mental projection. Just as if Neo were dreaming it would be: "It is the mental projection of your dreaming self."

SoylentPurple

No, they are in the construct, a digital environment. So the projection is digital (being that it exists in a digital environment) and the self is mental (being that it is what he thinks it should be). The correction of the movie quote is correct.

When in the Construct, it's like being connected to the Matrix. The people in the Construct are Avatars of themselves, which means they are their digital selves. The projection of themselves is based on what their Avatars are thinking.

Bishop73

That is pure nonsense. Avatars don't think. Your comment makes no sense. As explained elsewhere, it should be "the digital projection of your mental self."

I probably oversimplified what I was trying to say. But I can understand your confusion. The digital self is what a person looks like in the Matrix, which is different from the real world. The mental projection (in the construct or as an avatar) resembles their digital self, not their real self. Which is why Neo in the Matrix has hair, real life Neo is bald, but his mental projection has hair.

Bishop73

Correction: As Morn never died, this isn't a mistake. The episode "Who Mourns for Morn" was about Morn faking his death to escape his old criminal partners, and it is revealed that he is alive and well (and very rich) at the end of the episode. Morn remains alive and well until the end of Season 7.

The Longest Night - S5-E3

Corrected entry: During exchanges between Mr Peterson and Lennox, we find out that there is 60 grand in the safe as Friday is the store's busiest day. When Lennox is taken into the office, the store is still open, so how did the 60 grand make its way from the tills to the office safe? Tender pickups are done after the store has closed. The time when they do attempt to open the safe is quarter past six (after the store has closed) but still there would have needed to be a member of the office staff to bring the money to the safe while the Trotters, Lennox and the other two were in the office. Also a safe would not be located in the manager's office, it would more likely be in the general office or cash office.

James Ransford

Correction: When I worked in a supermarket in my student days, cash was taken from the checkouts every couple of hours. And that was a small supermarket in a small town, not a large supermarket in a busy London suburb. Cash would probably be taken throughout the day to be locked away.

Big Brother - S1-E1

Corrected entry: When Del is on the phone to Dougie Sadler, he says, "How's your luck pal? Terrific. Family? Super". There is no way that Dougie could have replied to those questions given the speed Del was speaking. (00:13:20)

Joe Mc

Correction: That is kind of the point. Del is just going through his usual repartee on the phone, pretending he actually cares and not even listening.

SoylentPurple

To Hull and Back - S4-E8

Corrected entry: When Abdul worries that Del, Rodney and Albert have sunk, Boycie says, "Don't worry, they've got their uncle Albert with them". How does Boycie know this? Del said in the back of Denzel's lorry that it was just him and Rodney and that they were going by plane and that was the last time they spoke to each other, so there was no other way of knowing.

Joe Mc

Correction: The events after the meeting are not shown in real time. There is ample time for Del to call Boycie and tell him the plan. They must have had some further contact after that meeting to set up all the arrangements for Amsterdam.

SoylentPurple

Correction: Boycey mentions speaking to Del since the collection.

Corrected entry: As Mutt rides his motorcycle alongside the train in his introductory scene, he yells, "Professor!" to get the attention of Indiana. In the diner scene that immediately follows, Mutt is oddly shocked at learning Indiana's profession when he exclaims, "So you're a professor?"

Correction: You've missed the point. Mutt later exclaims "You're a professor?" because Indy is fighting off so many bad guys. This is not the image of a Professor that Mutt had in mind.

SoylentPurple

Corrected entry: Shortly after they enter the volcano the ground below them cracks and breaks and they fall for a very long time, as much as 15 seconds. By this time they would be going so fast that when they hit the water it would be like hitting concrete. And while there are documented cases of people surviving such falls into water, it is absurdly unlikely that all three would be completely unhurt.

Correction: Watch the scene again, and listen to the explanation. They don't just fall into the water. As Trevor explains, they begin falling with the water and slow down in the falling waterfall, until they finally hit the body of water at a survivable speed.

SoylentPurple

Correction: The walls also start to curve, creating a "water slide" as explained.

The Transporter (2002)

Corrected entry: In the scene where Frank is in the shop, he takes a bottle of juice to give to Lai who is still in the trunk but he walks out of the shop without paying for it or for the food he ate.

Correction: This is incorrect. Frank is holding the water bottle in his right hand and looking at his car. His left hand is rooting around in his jacket pocket. He then produces some paper money and puts it on the table then immediately selects a red straw and walks to the fridge to pick up the juice.

Show generally

Corrected entry: The wraiths' darts are using a transporter-like beam to collect people to feed on them. As it turns out, this device somehow stores information about the collected humans, without actually transporting the human aboard. Later, using this information, it is capable to reconstruct the human which was "transported" to the dart. Now, if it is possible, why would the wraith bother with those elaborate "harvesting-runs"? If they are capable to construct a whole human body based on some kind of stored information, they would surely be able to construct several human bodies based on the same information. This way they wouldn't have to hibernate themselves for hundreds of years (the primary reason of the hibernation is the depletion of their "feeding grounds" - this is one of the reasons why they such desperately wish to know Earth's location).

Correction: You have misunderstood the concept. The darts appear to work in the same way as the Star Trek transporters, in that you are momentarily stored in a buffer and then re-integrated. But with the darts, the people are stored longer, and reintegrated at a later date to be used as food. Once the human has left the buffer and been reintegrated, there is nothing left in the buffer to 'clone' or 'create' a new one.

SoylentPurple

Corrected entry: Towards the end of the movie, when the Enterprise and Reliant are in the nebula, Spock observes that Khan is plagued by 'two dimensional thinking,' i.e. he's using the Reliant as if on a flat surface, rather than in three dimensional space. Kirk then orders Sulu to set a course of "Z minus 10,000" and we see the Enterprise descending, with Reliant visible below her. Moments later, the Enterprise appears behind the Reliant, rising up from below in direct contradiction to the previous shot as well as the order Kirk gave.

Correction: That is not what happened, very few films are shown in real time. Kirk gave the order, and we see Enterprise descend. This begins a search pattern focusing on Z rather than X & Y. We don't hear the rest of Kirk's orders, just like we didn't hear any of his earlier orders regarding the previous search pattern. Eventually during the search Enterprise comes up behind Reliant.

Corrected entry: When Indy, Willie and Shorty are in the palace having the banquet, one of the waiters bring in the "Snake Surprise". After he cuts open the boa and the smaller snakes come out, the British Captain, who is seated quite close to Indy, brushes away a snake in disgust, while Indy does nothing despite his great fear of snakes.

Correction: He is not afraid of baby snakes, just as many arachnophobes are not afraid of spiders with thin legs for example. Phobias are irrational, that is their meaning. Also, Indy does not want to offend his host, or lose face with the people at the table.

SoylentPurple

That dish was not served in front of Indy. He is in a conversation with the evil host and doesn't notice it.

Jurassic Park III (2001)

Corrected entry: At the beginning of the film, when the boat crew is killed, why isn't the boat itself destroyed? Yes, the top is a bit damaged but the main body of the boat is fine. A creature that could kill the whole crew in that short space of time would surely damage the rest of the boat as well. Even a modern day crocodile can easily smash a hole in the side of a small boat just using its tail.

Correction: The Pterosaurs only attack the humans for invading their territory (and in the process, they damage the flimsy roof of the boat that was sheltering a human). They were not out to destroy a boat.

SoylentPurple

Is it ever explicitly stated anywhere what dinosaur attacks the boat?

In the original script it said that there were to also be scenes where Grant sees foot prints and other evidence. The opening shot was done before the final script was done. They used that scene for the opening and did not re-shoot it.

Not to mention that a crocodile is extremely strong and tough, while any flying animal would be considerably less so.

LorgSkyegon

Correction: It was said that they wanted to have it be the pterosaurs who attacked the boat but cut the scene as it conflicted with the script since they were still locked in the cage at the time.

Corrected entry: When Kumar kisses Vanessa after breaking up the wedding, everyone claps. For everyone to clap it would mean that none of them were pissed that Colton just got knocked out and broken up with. And if he was so bad that his own family would clap then she'd have surely picked that up by then. (01:37:55)

zephalis

Correction: This is not the case. There are people in the front rows on the groom's side (presumably his family) that are not clapping. They are looking unhappily at each other. The groom's friend standing next to Harold is not clapping either.

Alien (1979)

Corrected entry: At the end of the movie, Ripley signs off as the third officer of the Nostromo. This is a technical mistake - as third in command Ripley would be the second officer behind Dallas, the captain and Kane, the first officer.

Correction: While this maybe true for the current military or commercial shipping, we do not know what nomenclature is used in the future. It could easily be the case that in Ripley's time, they are listed in numerical order. Much like the rank 'Inspector' in US law enforcement has different meanings in various police forces around the US (And is now obsolete in many).

Criminal Minds (2005)

Show generally

Corrected entry: Episode date 4/11-"Among Thieves": Bad guys kidnap guy, cut off finger and ear to send to family. At show's end, kidnappee goes home with hand in bandage, but ear is reattached.

Correction: This is not true. Firstly, his hand is not bandaged, he just has the same white towel wrapped around his hand that the Russian Mob put there. Secondly, you can see that he is missing his left ear in every shot. There is a bloody outline of the rough shape of his ear where it was cut off.

Aliens (1986)

Corrected entry: In the scene where Bishop "does the thing with the knife," it appears Ripley is sitting at the end of the table with the rest of the marines. She is watching the events with Bishop and Hudson. However when Bishop sits next to Ripley, she's at a different table and her back is to the other marines. Did I see this right?

Correction: Almost. Ripley has spun round 90 degrees to watch what is happening at the other end. Because the camera is low down it looks as if Ripley is at the same table. In some shots you can see her legs however, indicating she has just swivelled round on her stool.
