Monsters, Inc. (2001)

Continuity mistake: When Mike, Sulley and Boo are walking to the Scare Floor after leaving the locker room, Mike's feet and legs are soaking wet. His feet are suddenly dry by the time they reach the Scare Floor. (00:38:45)

Suggested correction: You can see the wet footprints gradually becoming less wet as he walks, until they leave no water footprints.

Yes the soles of his feet were dry, not the entire foot though.

3:00 A.M.-4:00 A.M. - S1-E4

Continuity mistake: The show claims to be in real time, and although those viewers who aren't too eagle-eyed will argue that it is, there is undisputed evidence in this episode that it isn't accurate. After the final ad break, the clock reads 03:52. At least two minutes later, when we see Teri and "Alan York" turn a corner in their car, the clock is displayed at the bottom of the screen, and it is still 03:52. The same sort of thing happens earlier in the episode, when there is a good ten minutes or so between when the clock says 03:26 and when it says 03:30.

Upvote valid corrections to help move entries into the corrections section.

Suggested correction: The clock says 0323 then 7 minutes later says 0330.

Ssiscool

Corrected entry: At the beginning of the movie, when the are showing "The Itchy and Scratchy Movie", Itchy launches the nuclear missiles which are initially spread apart but when they land in Scratchy's mouth they are all in one clump.

Correction: You can't seriously expect perfect continuity watching a cartoon within a cartoon.

But then itchy and scratchy had to be made as part of the Simpson's movie so it's still part of the film making it a mistake.

Ssiscool

Wrong. This is not a mistake. It was fully intentional and done for comical purposes.

Correction: Missiles can also change trajectory.

Phaneron

It was done as deliberate joke, so it isn't a mistake.

Fawlty Towers (1975)

The Builders - S1-E2

Revealing mistake: When Basil smashes Manuel against the wall where the dining room is meant to be, we can see it is made out of cardboard. Notice how it begins to fall off, even though it is meant to be sealed and covered in wallpaper. (00:16:05)

Casual Person

Suggested correction: Perhaps this was due to O'Reilly's shoddy workmanship?

You could say that but Fawlty towers had wobbly sets all the time. I would say this would be covered under "mistakes".

The_Iceman

Codswallop. O'Reilly manages to do a half decent job. This is just a wobbly set.

Ssiscool

Where is the 'codswallop' as you so euphemistically put it? To me it looks like O'Reilly cut corners by shoddily placing a sheet of plasterboard in the doorway without attaching it well then shoddily wallpapering over it. Hence the reason for it falling out.

Speed (1994)

Continuity mistake: When Howard Payne is in the elevator, he hears Jack and Harry doing something from above, and he reaches for his bomb trigger. In slow motion when he's picking it up, it has two buttons on it, yet when Howard pushes one of the buttons, the device now has three. (00:13:00)

Suggested correction: Look closely. There are 6 buttons in all shots (3 rows of 2 (1 red, 1 green)) However the bottom row has tape over it in the close up of Payne picking it up.

London's Burning (1988)

Episode #2.1 - S2-E1

Corrected entry: On the way to the second shout at the council accommodation, the fire appliance shown is YHV 194T. Whilst this was the pump in the pilot and first series, for the second series, the appliances were GYW 627W and GYW 628W. (00:43:00)

Correction: It is not uncommon for older pumps to be kept in case of emergencies. It's easy to assume that this was simply the case.

Home Alone (1990)

Corrected entry: When Kevin orders his own cheese pizza and has it delivered, he has some fun with the delivery guy. He plays the video in which someone gets shot and killed. The pizza guy is obviously scared and runs away, believing that he is being shot at. Surely someone who thinks they have just been threatened by a gun would either call the police or investigate further. And if the police got a call of that nature, they would definitely check it out.

Correction: The pizza boy probably realised he'd been pranked a minute later when he calmed down and realised how silly the situation was. Also, the man with the gun did pay for his pizza, even if the tip was lousy.

Correction: I was a pizza boy for a while, I assure you, this isn't all that worse from the way they treat us for real. The man is probably used to this.

dizzyd

Correction: He was probably so terrified that he just bolted and the police never even crossed his mind.

Not necessarily true. When he returns to the shop and people see he is terrified they would ring police after he explained.

Ssiscool

OK, so he calls the police when he gets back to the shop, or stops someplace to find a phone. The cops go out and find no bullet holes in the door or walls and no signs that the place had been shot up. Where's the crime?

Corrected entry: A trained US Naval aviator would not pull up to get away from a rocket missile because a Surface to Air missile will climb at least twice as fast as the depicted non-supersonic jet fighter. (00:21:15 - 00:22:40)

Correction: The jet Burnett and Stackhouse are flying is an F/A 18 Hornet, a supersonic aircraft capable of pulling off the manoeuvre described in the mistake with ease.

Family Guy (1999)

iGregory

That's dedication. Not watching the episode, watching the credits.

Plot hole: When the warden comes into the cell the morning after the escape, the poster covering the hole is fastened down on all four corners - impossible to do after squeezing into that small hole. [On the DVD commentary, the director confirms that this was a movie "cheat".] (01:49:05)

Upvote valid corrections to help move entries into the corrections section.

Suggested correction: It's a shame the director surrendered, but for someone as smart as Andy, this is the smallest of problems. He could've put weights on the bottom of the poster, or used magnets he embedded in the walls together with iron glued to the poster, or enough washers in the bottom to essentially do both.

dizzyd

That's a load of rubbish. Embedding magnets in the wall? Really.

Ssiscool

If he can make a six foot escape tunnel, he can scrape out several small holes around the poster's edge, and insert the aforementioned magnets, glued in however he can manage (ie tape, chewing gum).

dizzyd

He could have simply used glue mixed with dirt to weigh it down. Once the glue dried it wouldn't matter how heavy the poster was, so long as there was contact.

How could Andy do that after he escaped through the hole in the wall?

satishsasikumar

I don't think it's what happened, but easily enough. Put magnets in the wall during his tunnel digging process - he had years - then something magnetic affixed to the corners of the poster. As soon as he was in the hole the poster would hang down and affix itself to the bottom corners.

Further, if the poster weren't "glued" on the bottom, it would not have been taught enough for the warden's pebble to go through it. If the poster were attached loosely, the pebble would have simply bounced off.

Bagpipes - S5-E6

Character mistake: Marshall's whole career focus is saving the environment, so it's a poorly written character choice that he buys plastic glasses to avoid a dish-washing feud, boasting that they can just throw them away. (00:20:10)

Upvote valid corrections to help move entries into the corrections section.

Suggested correction: Alot of stuff can be recycled. He would simply recycle the used plastic.

Ssiscool

You can recycle the plastic but you have to wash it first, defeating all the purpose of buying it in the first place.

The Crow (1994)

Corrected entry: When Eric tackles Tin Tin in the alley, we see him connect with Tin Tin. The shot then changes and he's about 3 foot away from Tin Tin and connects again. (00:19:00)

Ssiscool

Correction: It's the same action shown again from a different angle, not a continuity error. This technique is used frequently with big climactic explosions too - we're not meant to assume an object exploded more than once. We're just seeing it happen multiple times.

Phixius

Which is the basis of a continuity mistake.

Ssiscool

Not always - trouble is with things like this they have to be judged on a case by case basis. Some repeated actions are sloppy editing, some are a directorial decision, so not even a "deliberate" mistake, they're just showing the same thing a couple of times for impact.

Corrected entry: The lifejackets in the movie have the wrong number of cork pieces. In real life each side had six pieces but in the movie there are twelve. (02:37:00)

Correction: The real life jackets had numerous pieces of cork sewn into pockets. Some jackets have 6 pockets on each side (front and back). Some have 10, and some have 12. These can be confirmed by looking at historic photos from the disaster.

Titanic (1997)

Corrected entry: When Jack and Rose finally come aboard the top of the ship after she rescues him they ask the Colonel if there are any boats left and he says "up that way" The woman on the left, who looks kind of pathetic, is then later seen on the life boat with Molly Brown. (They show her face right after Molly says the line "it's your men out there") The life boat with Molly Brown in it was sent out before the scene with the Colonel, meaning that she must have gone on the life boat, swam back onto the ship and then back onto the lifeboat. (02:08:05)

Correction: While they look alike, it is in fact two separate people.

Corrected entry: When the ship is vertical after it has split in half, look at Rose's hair. She is looking down toward the water and the hair should be hanging down towards the water too, but it remains horizontal. (02:35:50)

Titanic (1997)

Corrected entry: When the water pressure implodes the grand staircase's glass dome, the camera looks down at the boat deck windows, which are completely smashed. Yet when this is looked at closely, you can see the outside deck. Wouldn't that all be under water? (02:28:50)

Correction: Look even closer and you will see that the water is pouring into the grand staircase.

Ssiscool

Correction: Actually this mistake is accurate. In order for the dome to have imploded, the entire structure needed to be submerged, which it wasn't. While the movie implies it was, right before this scene the first funnel collapses and you can see the structure that housed the dome of the grand staircase still above water. You can also tell that the water hasn't completely overtaken the deck windows yet.

Titanic (1997)

Continuity mistake: When Jack and Rose are running through the dining room, both of them are completely dry and running up. After Cal tells Lovejoy he'll give him the diamond if he gets it back, we cut back to Jack and Rose and both of them are soaking wet, most noticeably Jack. (02:13:15)
