Trivia: Johnson's script originally featured an ending in which Jesse loses the game and yet finds himself still alive. Unwilling to cut the scene entirely, Neil Gaiman realised if they altered the sequence such that Hamlet was a flop, they could get away with just a few extras and work that into the dialogue.
