Continuity mistake: At Hagrid's, after the jar breaks the first time, in the wide shot the toad is on the table, under the cracked pieces of jar, yet in the next close-up, the cracked pieces are gone and the toad is back on the blue plate. Continuity mistake: At Hagrid's, when Harry, Ron and Hermione are there the first time in the film, there is a large birdcage, blue cup and saucer, watering can and small wood planter (with seedlings) on the windowsill. Later, when Hermione throws the first stone, as the stone flies through the window the watering can and blue cup's positions differ and the wood planter and large birdcage are gone. When she throws the second stone they are back on the windowsill. (01:24:05 - 01:52:20)

Continuity mistake: The cuts including the one with butterfly closures on Hermione's cheek and the scratches on Harry's cheek change position/characteristics in many shots throughout, even in consecutive shots.

Continuity mistake: After Ron, Hermione and Harry run out of Hagrid's they hide behind the pumpkins, while the other Hermione and Harry look on as they hide behind trees. When Hermione comments about her hair, the tree branch she moves away is completely different between the shots facing her and the shots facing Hagrid's. (01:52:10)

Continuity mistake: When Hermione says, "Awful things happen to Wizards who meddle with time, we can't be seen," in the shot facing her she places her right elbow up on the pumpkin. In the next shot facing Harry her arm is down on her lap, yet in the next shot facing Hermione her arm is up again. (01:50:55)

Continuity mistake: When Harry first arrives at Lupin's office as he packs, the skulls with the horns, sitting atop the bookcase, are visible. In the following shots, the skulls not only drastically alter their positions, the one with the very tall horns is actually gone in some shots. (02:07:45)

Continuity mistake: As Lupin packs in his office, the gramophone and books on his desk are visible in many shots. When Harry first walks in, the set of three thin books, bound with a string at the top of one pile, as well as the gramophone and other books noticeably change their position in quite a few shots. Continuity mistake: Due to the effect of the red glow on Kramer's eyes, he confuses the pitcher of tomato juice from Jerry's refrigerator for a pitcher of milk, pours it into the cereal, then gags and promptly tosses the contents of the bowl into the trash beside the fridge. In the close-up he tries to wipe some of it off the wall, but there's still a huge red mess left on the wall, in the trash, etc. In the next wide shot of Jerry and Kramer, the trash and wall are spotless.

Continuity mistake: After Jack slams the boom into Will aboard Interceptor, then brings him back on deck, Jack points the sword at Will. In Will's close-up, the sharp edge of the blade actually faces Will's neck - the hand guard is at Jack's knuckles. However, in the next shot, a close-up of Jack, as Jack still points the blade at Will, BEFORE Jack flips the sword over, it is apparent that the sharp edge of the blade faces away from Will - the hand guard is at Jack's fingertips. (Though this is visible on the DVD, a better view is on the video.) (00:50:10)

Continuity mistake: On the docks, when Norrington exposes Jack's scar and tattoo on his right arm, he says, "Well, well, Jack Sparrow, isn't it?" and in the wide shot Murtogg holds the middle part of his gun. In the close-up when Murtogg says, "He said he'd come to commandeer one," he holds it near the bayonet, yet in the next wide shot he holds it in the middle again. (00:17:40)

Continuity mistake: At the police station, the filing cabinet beside Lucy is visible in the wide shot, just before Dammers says, "Debra's corpse had the number thirteen carved into its forehead." Then, in Lucy's close-up different things are on top of the filing cabinet. (00:46:10)

Continuity mistake: At the police station, when Dammers tells Lucy about the day that Debra died, there is a shot of the utility knife in Frank's toolbox and the initials F.B. are written in white on the knife.
