Continuity mistake: As Barbossa, Elizabeth and Jack walk towards Will, Beckett and Jones there is a close-up of the latter's feet on the sand. In the next shot, the sand around their legs significantly differs.

Continuity mistake: At the end, when Jack says, "Drink up me hearties, yo ho," the compass rope flips its direction, from hanging across his palm to over the back of his hand, between shots, including the compass close-ups.

Continuity mistake: The cord necklace Will wears, which has several things dangling from it - particularly a distinctive white shell, flips round the opposite way between shots within a scene, several times during the film. For example, before and after the maelstrom, including the ceremony Barbossa performs.

Continuity mistake: On the small sand spit, when Jack, Elizabeth and Barbossa meet with Will, Beckett, and Davy Jones, the leather cuff Jack wears on his right hand actually disappears and reappears twice during the meeting.

Continuity mistake: After Wilbur faints, in the shot facing Lurvy, as he throws a pail of water on the buttermilk bathed pig, he holds the bottom of the pail in his left hand and grips the wire handle at the top with his right hand. In the next shot of Wilbur, Lurvy holds the bottom of the pail with his right hand. (00:57:40)

Continuity mistake: After Homer drops the butcher knife when he sees the web, in the shot of Homer, Edith and Lurvy, before Fern joins them, Edith holds the large blue sponge, but as Wilbur turns to see the web she is visible behind him and the sponge is gone. When Edith says, "It's nothing short of a bonafide miracle," in Charlotte's close-up, the sponge is back in her hand. (00:37:10)

Continuity mistake: At Minas Tirith, when Gandalf knocks Denethor out with his staff and then shouts, "Prepare for battle!" the silver broach he wears on his cloak is backwards (not upside-down). Interestingly, his belt is actually on properly, and the background is also as it should be. (02:01:25)

Continuity mistake: Whilst Sam runs up the stairs to rescue Frodo, before Shagrat makes off with the Mithril shirt, quite a few changes occur between the two consecutive shots. The larger hole in Shagrat's chain maille sleeve shrinks, his hair goes from flat and stringy to fuller and neater, the way he grips the shirt differs, and in the second shot he wears something reddish - which is seen through the chain maille tears, but in the previous shot it was black. Continuity mistake: Legolas always carries two matching knives, crisscrossed under the quiver at his back. When he boards the Mûmak, Legolas removes one of those knives and uses it. Problem is, while the knife is still in his hand, there are two long silver blades that are still quite visible under his quiver. (00:42:30)

Continuity mistake: When Pippin finds Merry's cloak, in the shot facing the ground he picks it up and Merry's Elf leaf broach is vertical, as it points towards Pip's right. However, in the next shot facing Pippin, the broach is now horizontal and points to his left (viewer's right). (00:46:50)

Continuity mistake: During the Mûmakil battle, when a Mûmak topples over, as Éowyn and Merry fall off their horse, in some of the shots their sheath straps hang from their left shoulders to their right sides. Also, please note Merry's chinstrap buckle which is on his right, but is normally on his left. (00:34:50)

Continuity mistake: Whilst Elizabeth puppeteers her wedding dress, in the close-up Captain Bellamy stands up and says, "Over there," as he points with his left arm extended. However, in the next overhead shot, it is his right arm that is extended as he points. (01:06:50)

Continuity mistake: After the cage of bones falls into the water, Cotton reaches up out of the water to open the broken cage, but in the next shot he is still under the water, behind Marty. (00:40:45)

Continuity mistake: After Jack is hung up over the kindling, to be "roasted and eaten", a cannibal carries a torch across the bridge and shouts. In the cannibal's close-up, the painted black/white sticks pierce his left ear, whereas in the previous and following shots the sticks actually pierce his right ear. The close-up is a flipped shot for continuity of face position. (Mostly visible on widescreen version). (00:37:50)

Continuity mistake: When Beckett says, "A marriage interrupted," he writes "Lord" as he signs the Letter of Marque, but when he places his seal, his handwriting differs. (00:29:40)

Continuity mistake: At the start, when Elizabeth kneels in the rain in the background, just as Cutler Beckett's legs appear in the foreground, the floral edged row of chairs are beside her. When she drops her bouquet to run to Will, as the camera pans up the rows of chairs are farther back. (00:02:10)

Continuity mistake: When Jack spills oil on his cuffed hand, his fingers and nails are filthy as he slips the shackle off. However, next shot, when his hand is free, his nails are not nearly as black. (02:13:40)

Continuity mistake: When Governor Swann says, "Stand your men down!" there are two soldiers at his sides, and the silver medallions on their white straps move up and down, between the wide shots and close-ups. (00:02:40)

Continuity mistake: After the monkey throws Jack's hat overboard, Gibbs, Marty, Cotton, et al, run to look over the deck rail, when Gibbs shouts, "Jack's hat!" However, in the next shot it's not until Gibbs turns and shouts, "Clearabout!" that Marty, Cotton and the rest actually reach the deck rail. (00:17:10)

Continuity mistake: After Captain Bellamy tells Will it's strange to come upon a long boat in open waters, he asks, "And what are we running from?" as he stands with his hands behind his back, between two sailors. Yet, in the next shot from behind, Bellamy stands at the end with his arm down, but next shot he's back to the original position. (01:33:00)
