Question: When Riker and his father are doing anbo-jyutsu, what do the Japanese characters on the armor and around the ring say or mean? I read what the spoken Japanese lines meant (or at least why they attempted to say, I understand their pronunciation was bad), but couldn't find the writing.
Answer: According to the Star Trek wiki (memory-alpha.wikia.com/wiki/Anbo-jyutsu), the characters around the ring are a reference to animated series Urusei Yatsura: The large character in the center is "Hoshi", the words next that are "ramu" and "ataru", names of the main characters of that series. The phrases "Urusai" and "Yatsura" are written in the back corner. The characters on the uniforms are references to The Book of Five Rings: "chi", "mizu", and "hi" (ground, water, and fire respectively) is on Will Riker's uniform while "sora" (sky) is on Kyle's uniform in addition to "mizu" and "hi." "Yuri" (lily) and "nintai" (perseverance) are written on banners around the ring.

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982)
Question: After the Reliant ambushes the Enterprise, Kirk tricks Khan and hammers the Reliant into retreat. As Kirk turns to assess damage to the Enterprise, Scotty inexplicably appears on the bridge, carrying the charred body of Midshipman Peter Preston. Why on earth would Scotty bring the dying Preston to the bridge, rather than to SickBay with all the other injured? He had to deliberately bypass SickBay just to make an unnecessary appearance on the bridge.
Answer: At the time of the attack, most of Scotty's crew were attempting to flee a coolant leak caused by the damage. Cadet Preston (Scotty's nephew) remained at his post in the confusion, and was the reason the Enterprise was able to maintain minimal power with the energizers knocked out. Although he was wounded from the assault while rescuing another crew member, the coolant leak is what led to his ultimate demise, as the coolant was highly toxic. When Scotty brought him to the Bridge, he was himself quite disorientated from the events and was also devastated by his nephew's condition. Agreed it makes little to no sense, but Scotty didn't know what he was doing. His nephew was going to die, regardless of where he took him to. Going to sickbay would not have prevented it at this point. It seems like it was used as a mood breaker for the scene, crews celebrating their escape from death only to be confronted by it again in another form.
Answer: I believe Preston was already dead at that point. An earlier scene was edited out of the film that explained Preston was Scotty's nephew (his sister's son), and which may account for Scotty's rather odd reaction of first bringing him to the bridge.
Yet Preston is shown alive (still dying) in the SickBay moments later. Preston shares last words with Captain Kirk before he actually dies. So, this is a case of bad editing?
What was edited out of the film was an earlier explanation that Preston was Scotty's nephew-this was way before the Enterprise was attacked.
These scenes, which include several of Preston's lines which were cut, were restored in the 2002 Director's Edition. Curiously, when the film is aired on TV they still run the original video cut which has the scenes removed. The editing is really sloppy with the scenes cut out and the scenes establishing that Preston is Scotty's nephew add another emotional layer to the film. It makes Scotty's actions make so much more sense, he's overcome with grief over his nephew and anger at Khan. With the scenes cut what Scotty does makes very little sense.
In the novelization, I believe it is explained that the ship is badly damaged enough that Scotty reached the bridge while attempting to get to sickbay because the computer glitched.

Question: When the Marine in the Dodge Ram pickup interrupts the armoured car robbery, he is wearing civilian clothes, not a uniform. How do they know he is a Marine?
Answer: He has a US Marines bumper sticker on the back window of his truck.
Answer: They don't know he is a Marine per se. They are being facetious by calling him a marine based on his gung ho attitude, the fact he has some type of training, and his determination to stop the robbers. Also, his style of dress seems stereo-typically military even though he is wearing civilian clothes.
He has a little marine corps logo sticker on the front window (where a break tag would go) and a giant USMC sticker on the back window. As someone who spent the vast majority of her life around Marines and military lifestyle, things like that pop out like a strippers nipples.

Question: What exactly is Alonzo asking the three wise men for at the restaurant? Do they give him the go ahead to steal from and kill Roger? And more importantly are the three wise men corrupt cops like Alonzo?
Answer: Alonzo is asking the three wise men for a search warrant for Roger's home, effectively giving him the go ahead to confiscate the money he is hiding there. The wise men are indeed corrupt, the search warrant is completely illegal.

Question: The main character of the game is Griffin. You play as him in campaign mode. Yet he is not a playable character in multiplayer. His brother is, but not Griffin. Anybody know why?
Answer: Donnie Griffin was going to be the protagonist of the un-released sequel. Presumably making him the player character in the multiplayer to this game was a set-up for the sequel.

Answer: He would be charged as an International War Criminal. Bosnian war criminals were charged by the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia, a body of the United Nations.

Question: In real movie time how long did each dream last? The hotel dream time, the city dream, and the snow mountains dream. I don't buy it that they spent 8 years hiking in those mountains.
Answer: The dream is stated to last about 20 times as long as time in the real world, with the flight taking 10 hours. This means that the first level would be 200 hours (just over a week), the second level would be around 20 weeks (about 5 months), and the third level about 100 months (just over 8 years). However, that is the length of time for the entire dream, start to finish. That is not how long each person stays in the dream. They were not hiking in the mountains for 8 years, just a few minutes or an hour at the most. However, if they were to miss a kick on any level, they would either have to stay in that mountain base for the full 8 years or get kicked down to limbo for even longer, potentially.

Jurassic World (2015)
Question: Here's something I don't understand. When Zack and Gray are in the Gyrosphere, they go to a territory that is not part of the ride, leading to the Indominus attack. My question is, how is this even possible? The ride was shut down, they heard a voice in the sphere tell them to return back to where the ride began, and they could be seen visually on a map with other Gyrospheres, so wouldn't someone know where they were heading and basically forbid it? It's one thing for Claire to go exactly where they last were, but surely the guy operating the ride, or anyone else associated with it, would notice one that didn't come back?
Answer: The Gyrosphere does not have any limitations as to where it can go. It also does not shut down and return to base automatically when the ride is closed. It appears to operate like a normal vehicle would, in that the driver has full control over where it goes. Under normal circumstances, the vehicle would be more closely monitored but the film makes a point to show the ride operator being a young, unenthusiastic kid who is flabbergasted during the emergency. He seems to be more concerned with the angry visitors yelling at him than in making sure all the Gyrospheres return.

Question: Sam killed Peter at the end, so he got his life and he became safe. So how did he die on the plane?
Answer: In order to be "safe" you have to kill someone who didn't cheat death. Peter was one of the people who were supposed to die in the bridge collapse so killing him granted Sam nothing.
But you missed one point: Prior to being killed, Peter kills Agent block (someone who didn't cheat death) transferring agent's life on Peter. So Peter's life now in the judgment of 'death' should be effectively of someone who didn't cheat death. By extension, if Sam now kills Peter (who can now be deduced to be a clean soul from death's perspectives), Sam should get life of Peter, a person whose slate should be clean in the eyes of death. Why did Sam still die then?
Maybe the cop was supposed to die at the time of the plane blowing up.
The bullet from the gun was meant to kill the girl - he saved her so she dies on the plane, taking everyone down with her.
But by killing the cop, Peter had already paid off his debt to death. Then by killing Peter, Sam should have become safe.

Question: Why did Argyle want to kill Michael? I can understand wanting to kill those who harmed him but Michael was an innocent boy.
Answer: She said in the movie, "He must see himself as a child in Michael. He wants to get rid of him to erase his past."
Answer: While Argyle shows a strange affinity for Michael, his primary goal is still revenge on the entire town. Innocent or not, Michael is connected to those who tortured him.
How could Michael have anything to do with those men that he killed? He's just a kid.

Question: I have a few questions: 1. Did Bruce propose his joint venture just to see if Lau was dirty and have him arrested? 2. Why did Fox come to Hong Kong in person instead of simply calling? 3. Did Fox plan to have his cell phone go off while talking to Lau (and if so, for what reason)?
Answer: 1) Yes, Bruce wanted his people to get a look at Lau's books to see if he was in fact dirty. 2) Fox comes to Hong Kong simply as a ruse to place the EMP device (the fake cell phone). 3) Fox would have no reason to have his real cell phone go off during the meeting. It just happened. This was done to show the audience that the phone he turned in to security was indeed a fake.
Answer: The venture was a ruse to get Fox to meet with Lau. Fox came to Hong Kong in order to plant the phone. The phone he planted allowed Batman to locate Lau in the building so he could kidnap him.

Answer: Core memories are formed when an event has a profound impact on a person's life, shaping their very personality going forward. Riley crying in front of her class on her first day of school was intensely embarrassing, thus a core memory was formed instead of a normal memory.

Question: Why was Carl laundering $4 million into the account? Was he in debt when he says to Willie "I'm dead if the account closes", which it does?
Answer: Carl is laundering money for drug dealers. If the account is closed and he can't get the money back then it would be lost. The drug dealers would then most assuredly murder him in retribution.
Answer: If all the actors and hands know their roles well enough they could perform the play reasonably well even without a director.
