Baby Driver

Question: During the heist at the post office, Baby shakes his head at a woman who in turn grabs a cop. When the lady was walking up, she smiled and waved like she knew him. However at the end during her testimony, it seems like she didn't know him after all. If that's the case, why did she smile and wave at him? Did I miss something?

Answer: The woman works at the Post Office and was the one who served Baby and Sam the day before. He's shaking his head at her because he doesn't want her to go in the building and get hurt/ killed in the heist that's happening at that time. She doesn't know him in a personal way like Joseph or Debora.

Answer: Baby had spent years being coerced into a life of crime, something which he was never happy with, and by that point had gotten tired of continuously running from his problems. He surrendered because he knew he had done a lot of terrible things and realised it was time to pay the price for it, as well as that he did not want Deborah to go through the same life of crime that he has gone through.

Question: How long did Baby serve time in prison?

Answer: Baby is sentenced to twenty five years in prison, and is given a parole hearing after serving five years of the sentence. Baby is then released after the parole hearing, spending five years in prison.

Casual Person

Five years is correct - for one interpretation of the ending. Another possibility is that the ending we see is a fantasy and Baby served the full sentence. Some fans have this theory because Baby and Debora have not aged, and the car and her outfit are almost dreamlike in their presentation.

Question: Near the end, when Baby and Debra are stopped by the police on the bridge, they have a full set of keys (car and what looks like house keys) that Baby removes from the ignition and tosses into the river. How the hell did they get the keys if they stole the car?

Answer: The keys were probably in the car when they took it. Leaving keys in an unattended car is stupid, but not uncommon. I've seen lots of news reports where a car theft victim starts their story with, "I only left the car running for a minute while I..."

Agree with everything here, and to expand upon this answer, we do see Baby carjack somebody earlier in the movie while they were in their car with their engine running (the older lady to whom he returns the purse). Quite possible this is how he obtained the pickup truck.

Question: When the Marine in the Dodge Ram pickup interrupts the armoured car robbery, he is wearing civilian clothes, not a uniform. How do they know he is a Marine?

Answer: He has a US Marines bumper sticker on the back window of his truck.

Answer: They don't know he is a Marine per se. They are being facetious by calling him a marine based on his gung ho attitude, the fact he has some type of training, and his determination to stop the robbers. Also, his style of dress seems stereo-typically military even though he is wearing civilian clothes.

He has a little marine corps logo sticker on the front window (where a break tag would go) and a giant USMC sticker on the back window. As someone who spent the vast majority of her life around Marines and military lifestyle, things like that pop out like a strippers nipples.

Continuity mistake: The car at the arresting scene was boosted by Baby a couple scenes earlier. When he gets arrested, he suddenly has a key of the car and turns off the engine. How did he acquire the key of that boosted car?

Suggested correction: We don't see him boost the car, though. He could have stolen it from somebody who was in the car, as he has done a couple times in the movie already.

Trivia: During the second heist, all of the crew are wearing Austin powers masks. Kevin Spacey who co-starred in this had a cameo appearance in the third Austin Powers film, playing himself.

Suggested correction: I think this is more coincidence than anything. Spacey's Austin Powers cameo is about 5 seconds, and he's playing himself as Dr. Evil, not Austin. Maybe there'd be a connection if he played Austin or was even in this Baby Driver scene, but this was just a workaround after they were denied the rights to Halloween's Michael Myers.
