The Rainmaker (1997)

Corrected entry: Rudy goes to Cleveland to get depositions under oath from four employees of Great Benefits. He gets quite angry when he realizes that the first two he calls had been fired and can't be heard. The third one is Everett Lufkin who wrote the infamous last letter to Dot Black. Rudy says that he is going to get the deposition from him and pack up and leave after that. We never find out who the fourth one is and why Rudy is not interested in getting his/her deposition. (01:01:55)

NancyFelix

Correction: Not a mistake since Rudy is still green around the gills as a lawyer. He could have forgotten since he was so upset that he is getting the run-a-round from Great Benefit's lawyers.

The Ring (2002)

Corrected entry: When Katie's mother finds her dead daughter in the closet - shown as a flashback - Katie's head falls forward the moment the mother opens the door. This seems to have no other reason than to jack up the number of goosebumps on the spectators' arms and necks. (00:14:45)

NancyFelix

Correction: This isn't a mistake. Anyways, some houses transfer vibrations from motion very easily. In my house, if you walk through the living room, you can feel vibrations throughout the whole house. And with the mother swinging open the closet like that, it wouldn't be a big suprise if the vibrations made the body move a little.

Along Came Polly (2004)

Corrected entry: Container toilets can't overflow like it does when Reuben blocks the drain with the towel. The container volume is always smaller than the toilet by design. (00:34:25)

NancyFelix

Correction: If the water in the bottom of the toilet does not drain at all and the water from the tank starts to fill the bottom, then you could over flow the toilet, especially if the volume of whatever you had in the toilet was high. In this case the towel and the waste, plus 2 full tanks of water would easily over flow the toilet.

Dirty Harry (1971)

Corrected entry: On the way to Jaffe's diner Harry passes by a car in which a bank robber is waiting for his accomplices to come out. After he places his order Harry asks Jaffe if this car's engine is running, which he could tell from the exhaust smoke the car is emitting. However, when Harry drove by there were no fumes, only now there are, but Harry hadn't looked back since. (00:10:35)

NancyFelix

Correction: The getaway driver could have started the car while Harry was walking into the diner.

Dirty Harry (1971)

Corrected entry: When Harry drives by a car in which a bank robber is waiting, there is a close-up of the driver lighting a cigarette and dropping the previous one on the ground. Here we count eight other butts, which, even if he is a fast smoker, mean that he has been waiting there for about an hour, which is a bit long for a decent bank robbery. (00:09:50)

NancyFelix

Correction: All of the robbers could have been waiting in the car finalizing their plans. Who's to say how long it took to rob the bank anyway? Their plans may have involved two drivers (one there, one away), and he's been there long enough to see them arrive too.

William Bergquist

Corrected entry: At the end of the fight in the Kenyan club Quatermain pushes one guy against a rhino horn on the wall which comes out of his chest, in spite of his bullet-proof metal armor. (00:10:30)

NancyFelix

Correction: The armor appears to be overlapping plates. It's possible that the horn got in between two of the plates.

Witness (1985)

Corrected entry: Why and how could Eli and Rachel carry the injured John up to the 2nd floor, after they had such trouble to even load him onto the cart? (00:37:00)

NancyFelix

Correction: Who is to say they didn't get help from someone else? This portion of the film is never shown...not necessarily a mistake.

I Am Sam (2001)

Corrected entry: Why on earth was the witness stand and, believe it or not, even the judge's desk in the custody hearings decorated with various stuffed teddy bears? (00:54:20)

NancyFelix

Correction: The reason why the desk is decorated is because the court deals with children and custody rights. The decorations are there to allow the children to feel comfortable and not to be intimidated by the situation. Even though it is a court room, it has been designed in regards to the childrens' perspective of it.

Correction: I have read somewhere that when children go to court hearings and custody rights and such they are given a stuffed animal after like a teddy bear to make them feel better.

Corrected entry: The house of Toula's parents has two storeys. However, in the scene after the engagement party Toula is doing the dishes in the kitchen. You see two staircases, one going up and one going down. That the kitchen is on the second floor is confirmed when she looks out of the window down onto the lawn, where her grandmother is having trouble with the sprinkler. The view from the kitchen down to the lawn is the perspective from the first floor and from far too high up to be from a raised ground level. The staircase down does not lead to a basement as Toula is looking down onto the lawn from an upstairs floor. (01:09:25)

NancyFelix

Correction: There is such housing as tri-levels that from the outside look like they are two storys yet on the inside there can be three.

Corrected entry: The first shot of the movie shows Keaton lighting his last cigarette. We see a close-up of a round bundle of matches being lit, but in the next shot it changes into a flat matchbook. (00:02:10)

NancyFelix

Correction: It's always a flat matchbook.

Ben-Hur (1959)

Corrected entry: When the Sheik talks to Judah about the upcoming chariot race he says "...and then you'll defend, err, defeat him...". Since the Sheik's English (or whatever language English represents) is perfect except a slight accent this must be a lapse that survived editing. "Defend" is also skipped in the subtitles. (00:10:20)

NancyFelix

Correction: The sheik does not say 'defend', but instead repeats, 'and then.' The scene referred to takes place in the Sheik's tent the night before the race. Judah is alone at first, 'bonding' with the horses, when the Sheik enters and says that he never thought his horses 'would love another as they love me.' He says to the horses, "Rest well, my children. Tomorrow, we go up to the city (Antioch, the site for the race)." He turns to Ben-Hur and says, "And then, Judah, and then, with the new governor there to see..."

Punch-Drunk Love (2002)

Corrected entry: When the truck with the four brothers hits Barry's car the second time it comes from the same direction. It returns too quickly anyway. (01:12:00)

NancyFelix

Correction: That's because the car was only hit once. The interior scene references the same incident in slow motion, illustrating Lena's confusion and Barry's deep concern for her wellbeing.

Corrected entry: When the protagonists arrive at the fort the men who had just been wading through the water are completely dry. (00:36:10)

NancyFelix

Correction: We are not shown how long it took to get permission to enter the fort. They could have dried out in that time.

Kate & Leopold (2001)

Corrected entry: To sample ink for his quill-written letter to Kate, Leopold empties out ballpoint pens, whose ink is much to viscous to flow out as easily as it's shown in this scene. (01:01:05)

NancyFelix

Correction: It may have been possible for Leopold to empty ink out of ballpoint pens, since some brands of ballpoint ink become more viscous when heated in hot water or possibly in the microwave oven.

Corrected entry: Greg calls from Europe and leaves a message that he is going to return on the next day. He leaves a number where he can be called back, starting 01-71-xxx, which doesn't make sense: Calls from the US to Europe start with 011, 71 is no country code in Europe (or anywhere else, I guess), and 01 can't be an area code as he would have certainly given the country code while he was travelling from country to country. (01:33:15)

NancyFelix

Correction: 0171 was the dial code for Central London at the time that this film was shot. So therefore, he's not giving her the entire number figuring that she knows he's in Europe and needs to start with 011.

Philadelphia (1993)

Corrected entry: There are three factoral errors regarding labor trials that seem to occur only in Hollywood: 1) That labor trials are jury trials, 2) that, if so, the jury awards all damages and decides on the amounts, and 3) that throughout a whole labor trial all senior partners of the sued firm have to be present. The reality is there are many exceptions in real life than what is shown, such as labor cases do not always go to trial. (00:45:05)

NancyFelix

Correction: None of these are errors. In the U.S. (1) both civil and criminal litigants can request jury trials regardless of subject matter, it is a constitutional right; (2) the jury, as the finder of fact, does indeed render findings on the amount of damages to be awarded in a civil trial; and (3) the senior partners of the firm, though certainly not required to be at the trial, would be welcome to attend and (depending on the judge) likely be permitted to sit at the defense table with their counsel (after all, most law firms are partnerships - thus each partner is technically a named defendant).

Erin Brockovich (2000)

Corrected entry: The former PG&E employee tells her that he had shredded memos on bad test well readings with entry stamps from the PG&E headquarters. Memos with such entry stamps would have been at the headquarters, not at the subsidiary at Hinckley.

NancyFelix

Correction: I think a better way of understanding this would be that he had shredded memos from headquaters about the bad test well readings and that the memos had entry stamps. When memos came from headquaters, the local office would have put an entry stamp on them.

Michael Collins (1996)

Corrected entry: It's a well known fact that no one knew what Michael Collins looked like, and, according to the movie, there's only one photograph in his file that shows him more or less from behind. What doesn't fit into this picture is that we see him giving a public speech, watched by British (or British-paid) agents, which was one of many such speeches as Ned Broy later says. (00:09:25)

NancyFelix

Correction: There are several photographs of Michael Collins. Just look up any history textbook covering the civil war etc. or look him up on wikipedia.

Corrected entry: During Cheyenne's nightly visit at the McBain farm Jill jams the coffee kettle on the table where Cheyenne is sitting. Then there is a cut to Morton and Frank in the train, where they discuss the issue with the late McBain's farm and widow at broad daylight. Then it cuts back to Cheyenne still sitting at the table, sipping coffee, continuing his conversation with a now more cheerful Jill, and it's night again. (01:08:45)

NancyFelix

Correction: Cheyenne is paying a morning visit to Jill. Some time during his 'speech' he says "Didn't sleep a wink all night" That scene begins with Jill carefully looking out the window - it is broad daylight and the roosters are crowing.

Dirty Harry (1971)

Corrected entry: On the whole Dirty Harry is a realistic movie, but the way Harry shoots Scorpio without any aiming while Scorpio is holding a boy in front of him is not only something no policeman, not even a tough guy like Harry, would risk, but beyond any fathomable shooting skills (Wilhelm Tell says hi, but even he didn't shoot from the hip). (01:35:10)

NancyFelix

Correction: The first time I ever tried point shooting (not using sights) I was able to consistantly hit a paper plate at about 30 feet with my pistol. There is a scientific and thoroughly tested technique as to how to hit with a handgun without using sights; a technique used extensively by American law enforcement officers. As for Harry taking stupid risks such as shooting at suspects hiding behind innocents, take a look at the rest of the film and it's four sequels where he uses an overpenetrative weapon in a crowded urban center countless times, crashes a car through a building to kill a liquor store robber (whom, by the way, is holding hostages), kills his boss with an improvised time bomb, beats information out of a priest in the middle of a church... well, perhaps I'm making this longer than it ought to be but the point is that Dirty Harry is a guy who would swat a fly with an anvil in a glass house if he thought that the fly needed swatting with no thoughts about the obvious consequenses, no matter how serious.
