Continuity mistake: At the beginning, before Melanie walks behind the newsstand, it's an overcast day and she doesn't cast any shadow. As she emerges from the other side of the newsstand she casts several shadows against the wall and floor. The other people walking in front of the pet store are also casting shadows in several different directions. Throughout the film there are numerous changes regarding the casting of shadows between shots. (00:02:00)

Continuity mistake: As Melanie stands in front of the pet shop and watches the birds flying, more time passes than the two seconds implied. The kittens in the right window go from playing to sleeping between shots and a grey kitten appears in the window that wasn't there before. (00:02:05)

Continuity mistake: In a close-up of the Tin Man as Dorothy says, "We were just wondering why," there is no oil on his shoulder joint. In the next shot his shoulder joint is wet. (00:45:40)

Continuity mistake: In the elevator scene as you look down the shaft from above, the air is crystal clear with no smoke in sight. Then in a few seconds smoke appears near the windows but in the next shot when the elevator stops the smoke is gone. (00:20:10)

Continuity mistake: Paul combs his hair in the mirror during the train sequence. After that a lock of hair appears over his left eyebrow for several shots. By the end of the scene his hair is back to being combed perfectly. (00:04:30)

Continuity mistake: After Glen Close kicks Michael Douglas out of her apartment he's standing next to her bicycle holding his stuff. It can be assumed that he put the stuff on the bicycle seat because in the next shot his hands and the handlebars are empty. At first the big lit up gauge thing with the two levers above it is lit, about a minute later when the Scarecrow gets his diploma the angle has changed and the gauge thing is dark.
