Continuity mistake: At Spade's apartment, Brigid O'Shaughnessy tells Joel Cairo, "I haven't got the falcon, I'll have it in another week at most, though". The lamp on the table of the right of the screen changes position throughout the scene without anyone going near it. At first it's pointing downward then later it's pointing sideways at the three of them. (00:35:35)

Continuity mistake: As they discuss the murder of Jonny Boz Jeanne Tripplehorn introduces Dr. Lamott to the investigators and the book that is right in front of him moves sideways on the desk between shots. (00:17:45)

Continuity mistake: Someone moved the pencil holder on Jeanne Tripplehorn's desk between shots. It's there in the beginning of the scene then it just disappears. (00:14:10)

Continuity mistake: As Michael Douglas chases Sharon Stone down the highway his car almost has a head-on collision with a speeding bus and if you look closely in the second shot that we see of the bus, it's not moving. (00:41:05)

Continuity mistake: At the beach house Sharon Stone is sitting in direct sunlight as she speaks to Michael Douglas about Jonny Boz yet in all the close-up shots, even when he walks between her and the sun, she's never in direct sunlight. (00:11:00)

Continuity mistake: When Michael Douglas walks into Jeanne Tripplehorn's office there's a large plant more than one foot to the right of the lamp by her window. Later in the scene this plant is moved to the left where it's almost in front of the lamp in her close-ups. (00:13:25)

Continuity mistake: When Michael Douglas walks into Jeanne Tripplehorn's apartment we see a chair on the left of the screen. Later in the scene the chair is pushed right up against the table, which it wasn't in the previous shot. (00:35:30)

Continuity mistake: The police visit Spade's apartment after Miles Archer murder and we see a nice tie rack with several ties hanging off of it behind the lamp near his night stand. Earlier in the movie we saw this spot when he got the call about the murder and the tie rack was not there. (00:10:40)

Continuity mistake: A sweaty knifeless Kasper Gutman places the Maltese Falcon back up on the table after they find out it's a fake, but in the next shot they show him holding the knife again. (01:29:35)

Continuity mistake: Michael Douglas and his partner go up to Sharon Stone's beach house to get her to come in for questioning and the large clasp on her gold necklace moves between shots without being touched. (00:21:20)

Continuity mistake: In an overhead shot back at her house, Sharon Stone walks away from her pool towards her car which is in total shade. In the next shot as she gets in the car she's in sunlight. (00:39:35)

Continuity mistake: Brigid O'Shaughnessy goes into the kitchen to make some coffee and hands Kasper Gutman the $10,000. He shows Spade nine bills and claims that she pocketed one of the thousand dollar bills. Spade gets Gutman to admit that he, "palmed it" but if you look closely the money is never out of our sight and he never palmed anything. (01:23:45)

Continuity mistake: No one goes near it but during Sharon Stone's questioning at the police station the brown coffee cup in front of Wayne Knight rotates between shots. (00:25:15)

Continuity mistake: As The Beatles leave the train Paul goes through the first limo and we can see the second limo he's running to with a bunch of photographers standing at the side of it taking pictures. In the next shot the photographers are standing in front of the car and not taking any pictures. (00:16:25)

Continuity mistake: As he talks to Norm, Shake the TV producer says, " If they don't show up I wouldn't be in your shoes for all the tea in China" and the clock above his head reads 7:12 PM. In the next shot we see Paul's grandfather trying to sell autographed pictures of The Beatles to the girls on line outside the theater and it's mid-afternoon. (01:05:25)

Continuity mistake: Kasper Gutman stands in front of the Maltese Falcon and demands the $10,000 back from Spade. If you look closely the falcon is untouched without any knife marks on it. (01:30:50)

Continuity mistake: When Michael Douglas first sees her at the beach house he says, "Miss. Tramell?". If you closely at the shadow cast by the railing it's obvious that at least an hour has gone by between shots as he walks down to talk to her. The lounge chair has also moved between shots. Continuity mistake: In the first scene of the movie Sharon Stone holds the end of her white silk scarf in her right-hand. In the next shot the end of the scarf is draped over her right hand. (00:03:25)

Continuity mistake: Spade pulls an orchestra ticket to the Geary Theatre out of Joel Cairo's wallet. At first three-quarters of the ticket is underneath the flap of the wallet then in the next shot the entire ticket is out of the wallet. (00:26:05)

Continuity mistake: As Kasper Gutman talks to Spade about the Maltese Falcon, we see the bottle of liquor on the table go from half full to three quarters full in two shots without anyone going near it. (01:00:10)
