Continuity mistake: After a good night's sleep, Melanie looks out the window to see Lydia drive off in the green pick-up truck. If you look at the light fixture above and to the left of her head you can see by the shadow on the wall that the lighting changes between shots. (00:58:25)

Continuity mistake: As Melanie and Mitch approach the top of his hill he's walking in front. In the next shot she is. (00:48:10)

Continuity mistake: The end of this scene as the children near the bottom of the hill has been shot at a different time from the beginning, as the sun is now the front of them and their shadows are cast in the opposite direction. (01:14:00)

Continuity mistake: As Melanie gets back into the boat she places her pocketbook in the back with the latch facing her. In the next shot as she watches Mitch on the shore the pocketbook is reversed and it stays that way until she gets out of the boat after being hit by the gull. (00:23:25)

Continuity mistake: When we first see the three-branched lamp to the left of Annie's couch one branch is facing the camera and two are behind the lamp. Now, as she sits sipping her brandy the lamp has been reversed with the lone branch in the back facing the wall. It's much easier to see if you look at the branch in the lampshade. Continuity mistake: As Mitch runs to get the hammer and nails the shadow underneath the table next to the far wall changes between shots. First it's too dark to see under the table, than as Melanie watches him you can see the shadow of the table's leg against the wall. (01:43:40)

Continuity mistake: Before Melanie sits down at the table the position of the metal milk container changes from the left to the right side of the table between shots. (00:26:45)

Continuity mistake: The neckline of Lydia's nightgown changes between shots as she says to Melanie, "No, no don't go." (01:05:55)

Continuity mistake: At the end of the bird attack Melanie gets Lydia and Cathy out through the side door. If you look to the left of the screen the wall behind and around the lamp where the painting hangs is dark. In the last shot of the birds flying around the painting is lit. (00:56:00)

Continuity mistake: There's a green pamphlet right next to the ashtray that the bird flies into. When Mitch put his hat over the bird the pamphlet is further away. (00:06:10)

Continuity mistake: As Melanie walks up to Annie's, the porch casts it's shadow on the front door. In the next shot the door is lit up by sunlight. (00:16:20)

Continuity mistake: The lighting has changed as Melanie turns around to talk to Mitch's neighbor. When she first turns around her shadow is not on the wall and in the next shot it is. (00:10:25)

Continuity mistake: During the bird attack, Lydia and Cathy start running towards the dinner table and the drapes to the left of the door are pitch black. The next time we see these drapes they're lit up. (01:41:00)

Continuity mistake: When we first see Melanie driving up to Bodega Bay there's no windshield in her car. (00:11:00)

Continuity mistake: As they all leave the house and walk through the door, there's a distinctive gash in the door post to the right of Lydia's head. When Mitch goes back to get Cathy and the lovebirds it's not there. (01:56:55 - 01:57:50)

Continuity mistake: When Mitch puts the mirror up against the front door the rug in front of it becomes bunched up. Mitch never touches it but later it's been set straight again. (01:43:30)

Continuity mistake: When Melanie walks over to see the gas station attendant attacked, the green drape is flush with the side of the window. No one touched it but a few shots later it's been pulled out about six inches from the side of the window. (01:24:30)

Continuity mistake: The second shot of the background of the school and the children running down the hill is superimposed behind the five live action children in the front. Watch the boy to the right in the red sweater very closely because in the next shot he doesn't change but the five children in the front do. (01:13:40)

Continuity mistake: After Mitch closes the shutter, he sits Lydia down in the green chair. She then grabs his arm and leans forward with Cathy's arm around her back. In the next shot she's grabbing at his arm with her back against the chair. (01:43:00)

Continuity mistake: As Annie goes across the room to get an ashtray, you can see that the next room is pitch black. In a previous shot when she went to get the brandy it was lit up and she never touched a light switch. (00:44:10)
