Continuity mistake: Lash Canino's right arm is extended out in front of him as he shoots at Marlowe's car. In the next shot his elbow is at a 45-degree angle as Marlowe confronts him. (01:43:15)

Continuity mistake: Before the altercation with Art Huck, Marlowe goes to his car to get his gun and we see that there's no shrubbery on the right of it. Later he hides behind his car as Lash Canino holds Lauren Bacall hostage and there's a tree right next to him. (01:41:40 - 01:43:10)

Continuity mistake: When they meet up at Geiger's house at the end of the movie Eddie Mars says to Marlowe, "What are you gonna do about it?" as he leans back onto the couch. In the next shot he's sitting straight up facing him. (01:50:45)

Continuity mistake: Even though no one has gone near it, Lash Canino's steering wheel has been turned from the time he and Art Huck park next to the house to when he is shot by Marlowe. Not only is the shadow underneath different throughout the scene but the front wheels are turned all the way to the left after he's shot. (01:41:30 - 01:43:50)

Continuity mistake: The Ghoul Man is turned to bones by a ray from the alien spaceship and Col. Edwards throws the cape off of the body revealing the horrible sight. A couple of shots later they wake up Patrolman Kelton who is now lying on the cape. (00:55:30)

Continuity mistake: In Art Huck's living room, after Pat Clark throws water into his face, we see the chair at Marlowe's feet. No one goes near it, but later in the scene it moves 45 degrees to the right and is facing Marlowe (1945 Version on DVD). (01:41:30)

Continuity mistake: As Marlowe gets up when Canino's car pulls in, the fruit in the fruit bowl behind the couch is entirely different than what we've seen throughout the entire scene. (01:40:55)

Continuity mistake: As Mona Mars and Marlowe talk about Eddie Mars on the left behind him, Marlowe's coat is draped over the couch. If you look closely only his coat is on the couch, but later when Mona storms out, a hat appears on top of the coat. At the end of this scene, the coat is knocked off the back of the couch and appears in a pile with the hat above. (01:37:25 - 01:40:25)

Continuity mistake: After his car pulls up, Canino gets out and lights up a cigarette that he quickly throws to the ground when Lauren Bacal screams. Later, when Art Huck runs away after Marlowe shoots, we see that same spot again and the cigarette is now bent in half and in a different spot, almost under the car. (01:41:30)

Continuity mistake: As they talk in Art Huck's living room, Lauren Bacall's cigarette has a nice long ash on it but in the next shot, when she puts it in Marlowe's mouth, there's no ash (1945 Version on DVD). (01:42:05)

Continuity mistake: After Canino knocks him out, Mona Mars is there with a glass of water when Marlowe wakes up. If you look behind them on the table to the right of the lamp, there's a small cardholder. No one goes near it but several shots later when Lauren Bacal walks over to sit with them, the card holder moves about a foot to the right. (01:36:55)

Continuity mistake: Mona Mars throws water in Marlowe's face and as she leaves, we see three pillows propped up against the far wall in the back of the room. Later Marlowe gets up as Canino's car pulls in, and even though no one has gone near them the pillows have been rearranged. (01:39:05 - 01:40:55)

Continuity mistake: As Marlowe sits tied up by the couch talking to Lauren Bacall, the hat on the couch moves several times between shots without anyone going near it (1945 Version on DVD). (01:41:30 - 01:42:45)

Continuity mistake: The stewardess says to the pilot, "I'll be right back," as she touches him with her right hand. In the next shot she's nowhere near him. (00:29:15)

Continuity mistake: Lauren Bacall takes Marlowe's handkerchief out of his jacket pocket and she begins to wipe off the water that Mona Mars threw in his face. He stops her and says, "Never mind, Angel, the water feels good". She puts the handkerchief back in his pocket, but two shots later it's not there. Then at the end of the scene, it reappears again. Continuity mistake: Marlowe goes to get his gun and opens the driver's side door of his car and there is no vent window. In the next shot as he closes his car door, a vent window now appears. (01:41:45)
