Continuity mistake: When they first meet, Colonel Kurtz says to Captain Willard, "Have you ever considered any real freedoms?" and the Captain's shadow appears on the stone column to the right of the Colonel. The Captain is kneeling down and hasn't moved from his spot, but when we saw this column before his shadow was not anywhere near it. (02:39:25)

Continuity mistake: When the Medevac helicopter first lands in the Vin Din Dop courtyard there are only soldiers on the left side of it putting the injured man in. In the next shot five soldiers and a Vietnamese woman appear standing on the right of the helicopter who weren't there before. (00:44:05)

Continuity mistake: Dennis Hopper stands on the back of the boat and says to Captain Willard, "Yeah, well, they think you've come to uh - , to take him away". If you look to the left of the screen you'll see a piece of seaweed hanging off the roof of the boat. When Dennis Hopper walks back to the front of boat it's gone. (02:30:15)

Continuity mistake: As Colonel Kurtz opens up the steel doors to the room where Captain Willard is being held we see thick black smoke engulfing the entire area behind the colonel. They cut away to the captain for few seconds then back to the colonel as he stands in the doorway, this time with no smoke at all behind him. (02:49:05)

Continuity mistake: As he talks to him in the bamboo cage Dennis Hopper gives Captain Willard a cigarette with his fingers outstretched. In the next shot his fingers are clenched in more of a fist. (02:43:20)

Continuity mistake: Before they board the sampan Lance says, "It's clear, Chief," and we see a wide shot of the sampan and PBR. No one goes near it, but for just one shot the dress on the clothesline is rearranged. The two straps it hangs from are pushed together. In all the other shots the straps are wide apart. (01:35:40)

Continuity mistake: As they approach the severed heads Dennis Hopper says, "Wrong, wrong, if you could've heard the man just two days ago". The lock of hair falling over the left side of his bandanna is combed differently between shots. (02:33:35)

Continuity mistake: After Dennis Hopper comes onto the boat Captain Willard asks him, "Who are all these people?" The Captain has more dark makeup on his cheeks now than he had when they approached the camp a few seconds ago. (02:30:15)

Continuity mistake: As Captain Willard approaches Lieutenant Colby there is a woman standing in the crowd to the right of him. The next time we see him a few seconds later everyone in the shot is standing in the same spot except the woman is gone and a man wearing a green beret appears in her place. (02:32:40)

Continuity mistake: Just before the Medevac helicopter lands in the Vin Drin Dop plaza, a soldier machine guns 13 urns sitting next to the building on the left of the courtyard and the building also explodes. In the next shot of the medics working on the injured soldier the 13 urns are back and the building hasn't exploded yet. (00:43:05)

Continuity mistake: Before the Medevac helicopter explodes in the Vin Din Dop courtyard its main rotor is rotating at full speed. In the next shot as it explodes the main rotor is barely turning. (00:44:10)

Continuity mistake: At dinner with the general, Harrison Ford walks over to the captain with the picture of Colonel Kurtz and he has a pencil in his right hand. In the next shot as he drops the folder on the floor the pencil is not there. (00:12:25)

Continuity mistake: Colonel Kurtz sits reading articles from Time magazine facing the captain and the sun is behind him shining right into the doorway. When we first see Captain Willard locked up in this room he's facing Kurtz and the beams of sunlight are coming in from his left, which is 180 degrees in the opposite direction from the shots of the colonel. Continuity mistake: Before Captain Willard walks into General Corman's residence the front door is in the shade. In the next shot as he walks through it's lit up with sunlight from behind. (00:10:00)

Continuity mistake: As the men walk on the shore looking for Colonel Kilgore there's a field behind them across the bay. There's only a tank there but in the previous shot as they landed there were four helicopters along with the tank. (00:25:30)

Continuity mistake: Discussing the map with Captain Willard Colonel Kilgore says, "Mike, you know anything about this point at Vin Drin Dop? " and Mike goes from looking at Lance on his right to looking at the soldier on his left between shots during the beach party. (00:32:50)

Continuity mistake: When Kilgore's chopper lands, Captain Willard is holding his rifle with the strap around his left shoulder so that the butt comes up above his head. In the next shot he's holding it in his left hand and the strap is not around his shoulder anymore. (00:26:40)

Continuity mistake: As they get ready to leave the beach party Kilgore says, "bring me my Yater Spoon, the eight-six". The soldier to the right of Mike has a cigarette in his mouth that is gone in the next shot. (00:34:00)

Continuity mistake: Captain Willard gets off the PBR and goes looking for Kilgore. A large piece of driftwood appears floating in the water to the right of the boat between shots. (00:25:15)
