Pleasantville (1998)

Corrected entry: How do the Pleasantville inhabitants know what green, blue and yellow is? If everything's supposed to be in black and white, plus they don't think there's anything outside of Pleasantville, how do they even know what colours are?

Correction: The basis of Pleasantville is that it is old TV show. They know what blue and rain are, but because it is an old and perfect world they have experienced neither.

Pleasantville (1998)

Corrected entry: When David is showing off his Pleasantville knowledege to his friend, he says "Why did his parents come home early from the weekend at the lakes?" If there's nothing outside Pleasantville, where did they go? (00:06:10)

Correction: They went to the lakes. They are obviously within Pleasantville - there's a lake at lovers' lane for example.

Corrected entry: When Barry rips apart the bathroom, the owner tells him that his hand is bleeding. When they walk out, he lifts his hand up and there is no blood or cut on it then and throughout the whole movie.

Correction: There is no clear shot of his hands until the scene in his office, much later, when he punches the map on the wall. After that his hands are battered.

jle

Corrected entry: Why are the passwords for Moria, a Dwarvish city, in Elvish?

Correction: The road from that gate used to lead to the Elvish city of Ost-in-Edhil. The Dwarves of Moria and the Elves of Ost-in-Edhil were friends.

Starship Troopers (1997)

Corrected entry: In the shower scene, Diz comes in, takes off her T-shirt and starts showering. Do you leave your pants on to shower ?

Correction: She enters the room wearing a shirt and underwear. There is plenty of time between then and the shot where she takes off her shirt for her to have removed her underwear.

The Matrix (1999)

Corrected entry: Around the beginning of the movie, Neo is late for work. You can tell that he's late because he curses at himself. Why would his alarm clock go off at a time when he's late? Surely he wouldn't set his alarm clock to a time when he's late for work?

Correction: If Neo is like me, it is because he set the alarm late for Sunday morning then forgot to set it early again on Sunday evening ready to get up bright and early on Monday morning.

Corrected entry: It is well known from the ST-TNG series that Data in unable to use contractions. During the wedding scene, Data uses a contraction when singing the Irving Berlin song: Blue Skies. He sings "Noticing the days hurrying by, when you're in love." "You're" is a contraction.

Correction: They're lyrics which is has memorised, it isn't a sentence he has generated himself.

Predator 2 (1990)

Corrected entry: In the scene where the DEA is setting a trap for the Predator, the camera cuts back to the control room's computer screen several times. In each shot, the computer shows the DEA agents lined up against a wall, then in a box pattern, then up against the wall, and so on.

Correction: One monitor shows a plan of the room (agents are in a box pattern) the other shows a side view (agents all in a line because they're all at ground level). The representation of the stairs on the monitor makes this clear.

Predator (1987)

Corrected entry: Towards the end of the movie Arnold swims out of a pond onto a log. Before he can fully emerge the Predator stabs his retractable knives into the log, conveniently fitting around the width of Arnold's neck. The next angle you can see this better when the Predator is directly over Arnold, the knives have a huge gap between them. The knife prop was obviously made just for this scene, because later on the Predator uses the knives again and they are at the normal width.

Correction: It is deliberate - the predator didn't want to kill Dutch straight away, it wanted to examine him; presumably because he had been such a formidable enemy.

Boogie Nights (1997)

Corrected entry: In the scene that Dirk's mom flips out and he leaves, Dirk arrives home late at night, and when we see him running out the house, it is very bright out.

Correction: It isn't late at night, it is the next morning. When he leaves the house it isn't 'very bright' - there are no shadows, for example, - and could be morning light.

Corrected entry: At the beginning of the film, we see Manchester United playing Anderlecht - a Belgian team. The only time they've done this recently is in the UEFA Champions' League in 2000. The Champions' League is exclusive to ITV, yet EVERYONE in either the studio or doing the commentary is on the BBC.

Correction: The game is fantasy - Jesminder is playing in it. She obviously prefers her daydreams to be commentated on by Motson, Lineker et.al.

Corrected entry: At the end of the film, when Rowan and Natalie are about to kiss, Natalie is wearing a black dress, but when she is ejected into the air her dress is white. (00:33:45)

Correction: When they're in the car you can only see the neck of her dress and it is white.

Lost in Space (1998)

Corrected entry: Will Robinson is downloading Robot's Memory onto a CD - the indicator reads 100% and Will even says "Got it". Yet later he is talking with Robot and says the download was not completed.

Correction: In the DVD version, the indicator only shows 10% and Will doesn't say "Got it".

Kingpin (1996)

Corrected entry: When Roy and Claudia are fighting in the car park, Roy's rubber hand somehow manages to grab her ankle.

Correction: The hand has a slight curve so it just looks like it is gripping.

Kingpin (1996)

Corrected entry: In the scene where Ishmael and Roy are bowling at the rich guy's house Roy tells Ishmael that he needs 3 strikes to win but Ishmael only bowls 2 strikes.

Correction: He bowls 3. 2 before Claudia gets the beer and 1 after.

28 Days Later (2002)

Corrected entry: The idea of the film is that everyone's been infected with a disease. Will someone please tell me why there aren't any cars on the motorway? I know everyone got infected, but does that give them the ability to park their cars at home? It's impossible for a motorway to be empty. There are always cars on them, so there should be cars on the motorway in this film---though they would most likely be abandoned or trashed.

Correction: The disease has an incubation period of just a few seconds. So it is not possible to get infected, get in the car and get on the motorway. You couldn't get infected while on the motorway, and you couldn't walk onto the motorway either.

Armageddon (1998)

Corrected entry: In the movie they show people around the world praying. They show a shot of Taj Mahal in India and hundreds sitting around praying. Oops, Taj Mahal is not a place of worship, it's a tomb.

Correction: It is a tomb; it is also a place of worship. Mosques and tombs often go together - much like churches and graveyards I assume.

jle

Er, not in India. There is no religious significance to the Taj Mahal.

There is a mosque (and jawab) attached to the tomb, so they are probably praying to the mosque but there being so many they are praying outside in the courtyard. They pray to the east so towards the Taj Mahal, so it looks like they are praying to the tomb, but they are not.

Corrected entry: In the scene where Viola and William are in bed reading the play together Viola says, 'and Juliet is the sun, arise fair sun'. At this point in the film William has not yet changed the name of the play and it is still Romeo and Rosaline. William does not change the name of the play to Romeo and Juliet for another ten minutes so she would have said Rosaline not Juliet.

Correction: Ned suggests the name be changed to "Romeo and Juliet" because he still believes the play is entitled "Mercutio". The female role has been 'Juliet' since the real Rosaline betrayed Will by sleeping with Mr. Tilney.
