Chosen answer: Rank and position aren't directly correlated. An officer may be promoted to a higher rank, but maintain his/her current position. And an officer may be assigned new duties without a promotion. Spock is eventually promoted to full commander, but it isn't a requirement for the job.

Star Wars (1977)

Question: In Obi-Wan's home, he explains that Luke's father wanted Luke to have his lightsaber when he was old enough. But in "Revenge of the Sith", in Anakin's (Vader's) last fight with Obi-wan, Anakin's legs and right arm were severed and his saber was lost. So how could he give it to Obi-Wan to give to his unborn son if it was lost and Vader left for dead?

Movie Nut

Chosen answer: Anakin's Lightsaber was never lost. When Obi-Wan cut Anakin down (when Anakin jumped at him), Anakin's lightsaber falls to the ground next to Obi-Wan and when Obi-Wan leaves, we see him pick it up.

And as far as "your father wanted you to have this", it's a lie. Remember that Obi-wan is spinning a yarn to Luke about his father to keep from revealing that his father is Darth Vader.

Well, he might have wanted him to have it, "from a certain point of view."

Star Wars (1977)

Continuity mistake: At the dinner table, Luke picks up the container in his left hand to pour. A moment later, he picks it up in his right hand. Also, as Owen explains about Obi-Wan, you see Luke's left hand lifting then lowering the glass. When the shot cuts to Luke's face, his right hand is making the motions.

The Corbomite Maneuver - S1-E11

Trivia: After Kirk leaves Sickbay, and after McCoy says one of his "What am I...?" questions (i.e., I'm a doctor, not a _______), he says, "If I jumped every time a light flashed around here, I'd end up talking to myself." Later, in Star Trek V, as he's watching Kirk climb the mountain, he says, to himself, "'You'll enjoy Shore Leave. You'll be able to relax'. You call this relaxing? I'm a nervous wreck. If I'm not careful, I'll end up talking to myself."

The Truman Show (1998)

Continuity mistake: When the fallen lamp has settled, the glass and parts of the housing are in the sunlight, and the light is in the shadow, with the camera looking into the side of the shadow. As Truman comes out to investigate, the light has been turned to a new direction, the pieces of the housing are missing, and the glass is splayed out a lot more than it originally was.

Continuity mistake: As the pick-up heads toward Charlie at the end, the man in the back is firing at her. When she makes the truck explode, the figure in the back is a dummy, as his arms look mounted to the roof. Also, one yellow floodlight in front of him is off, and when the explosion occurs, it's on.

Upvote valid corrections to help move entries into the corrections section.

Suggested correction: This is only a mistake if the series is taken as a whole. At this point in the series, that particular trait wasn't part of the character. Data uses contractions multiple times in the first season, as the trait was added later.

While it was explicitly expressed in season 2 that Data can not use contractions, the fact that they did established this character trait means it could be a valid mistake since the trait is meant to show Data could never use contractions since his creation, not that he suddenly developed it some 30-odd years later. Although it would probably be best to submit it as a mistake in season 2 when it's mentioned that it contradicts what was established or at least make one character mistake for "all of season 1" than list every individual time it happened.
