Star Trek: The Next Generation

The Big Goodbye - S1-E12

Other mistake: At the end of the episode after delivering his complex greeting to the Jarada, Picard and Riker head for the Turbo lift. Just as they are about to enter, Picard opens his mouth really wide as if making a funny face to someone inside the turbolift or maybe quietly celebrating a 'successful take' given the bizarre nature of the greeting! Although it was filmed from the side it is quite easy to spot.

New this month Suggested correction: This must be from an outtake or alternate scene, and since it's not included in the actual show isn't "eligible" for a mistake entry (not that there's anything wrong with Picard smiling). In the episode as it was aired, at the end of the episode, after the greeting, Picard and Riker DO not go to the turbolift, they sit down. However, we do see Picard smirk when he turns to the side, but also everyone on the bridge claps for him and when he turns, he's still smiling.

Visible crew/equipment: When Riker tells Yar to open a channel to the Jarada, you can see the reflection of a boom mike in the workstation along the back wall behind him.

Continuity mistake: The lipstick on Picard changes between when he is kissed, and later when he leaves the holodeck (it's darker and on and above his lips.) Also, and more importantly, being holodeck matter, it should have disappeared after re-emerging in the real world.

Continuity mistake: When the two holographic villains are disintegrating outside the holodeck, there is a corridor opposite the holodeck. When the good guys exit a minute later, there is suddenly a solid wall.

Other mistake: After greeting Crusher, Data explains where Picard is. Problem is he uses the contraction "he's" instead of "he is." Data is supposed to be incapable of this.

Revealing mistake: As Data looks at the information on Dixon Hill, as the computer flash feeds, you can see that it's all the same block of information starting with the title of the first novel, which is the title of the episode, "The Big Goodbye."

Revealing mistake: When Picard looks out the window of the Dixon Hill office he sees the cars passing by each other, the traffic light is right in front of the window as if the entire building is not only in the middle of the street but only one story high.

Trivia

The cast really are very good friends. At LeVar Burton's wedding in 1992, the best man was Brent Spiner and the ushers were Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes and Michael Dorn. And when Brent Spiner recorded an album (Ol' Yellow Eyes is Back), the backing groups listed as The Sunspots are again the male members of the bridge crew.
