Avatar

Corrected entry: On the second trip to the planet Pandora using the helicopter, Jake and his folks are heading to the abandoned lab in the jungle, therefore they're still in human forms. As the shot gets the helicopter in the center getting also the trees and other details of the forest aside, you'll see two big blue humanoids (Avatars) sitting on the back of the helicopter.

fbferrari

Correction: Those are the dormant Avatar bodies they are taking to the lab.

Brad

Corrected entry: Near the end, where Neytiri has just put on the real Jake's mask, he holds his hand to her cheek. The hands are the same size.

Correction: Neytiri's hand is slightly larger; the sizes are consistant with their species. Neytiri is over nine feet tall, Jake is about six feet tall; the difference in the lengths of their fingers would be less than an inch.

BocaDavie

Corrected entry: When Jake is fighting (at the end) against the colonel. The Colonel is not wearing a mask inside the robot. While in the previous fight one of the soldier is wearing a mask inside the robot.

Correction: The suits are self-contained and offer protection from the environment. Soldiers going into a potentially dangerous situation would wear masks as added protection in case of an attack and breach of the suit. The Colonel didn't have time to grab a mask and put it on before climbing into the suit.

JC Fernandez

Corrected entry: In one of the final scenes when the humans are marching single file onto the spaceship, both the "human Norm" and "avatar Norm" are visible in separate shots. Only one or the other should be present.

Correction: While there are distinctive features for the Na'vi, it is quite difficult to tell if that is in fact Norm's avatar or another "avatar" in similar clothing. Norms avatar is seen to be killed during battle. Na'vi beings cannot be resurrected. Therefore it is unlikely to be Norm's avatar, rather another one in similar clothing.

XIII

Corrected entry: When the evil Colonel is descending from the burning ship into the robot, first his left shoulder only is on fire, then his right shoulder only is on fire.

Correction: The fire is across his back, but mostly on his right shoulder the whole time. The small amount of fire on his left side goes out on its own; the fire on his right shoulder keeps burning and he has to extinguish it manually.

BocaDavie

Corrected entry: In the very last few seconds of the film where the female avatar places her hand on Jake's avatar's sleeping face, her hand is human and not avatar blue.

Correction: I have just watched this scene and, while it appears that her skin is human color, it is merely an effect of the bright white light next to her. Similar to how your hand appears orange next to a yellow light.

Brad

Corrected entry: When Rogue 1 gets hit in the air fight at the end, there's obviously external air coming in through the windshield. Previous, we saw the gunship fire at her and bullets break through the windshield. It was stated that humans breathing the air pass out after 20 seconds, yet she shows no signs of discomfort while she reports to Jake, speaking normally.

Correction: She's wearing a mask when the bullets come through the windshield. Later during the final battle, you see the holes have been patched.

JC Fernandez

Corrected entry: The helicopter has men on the guns with masks yet the female pilot does not. Even when escaping with the scientists she turns around and says where to get the medical kit and doesn't have a mask on while the other humans do.

Correction: This is two separate mistakes, both of which can be explained. It has already been corrected that the helicopters have a sheet of glass seperating the cockpit from the rest of the copter, so Trudy is breathing human air. As for her copter not having a gunner, this is not a mistake. When the copters are bombing Hometree, Trudy, with her side gunner in tow leave the battle, saying "I didn't sign up for this shit." When Trudy went rouge with the rest of our heroes, her gunner didn't come with her, which is why Trudy flies solo in the final battle.

Brad

Wrong, there is no separation between the pilot and the cargo bay. Moreover the doctor, Sully and the lab rat are not wearing masks while the cargo door is not open. This is a major inexcusable error. Only "fictitious" excuse is that there is oxygen above a certain level with denser gases towards the surface. Otherwise this is indeed a major movie blunder.

Corrected entry: When Quarich is finally killed in his armor suit, the whole suit falls down backwards. Since Quarich wouldn't have fallen down inside his suit (just leaning backwards in his chair I suppose), why would the suit fall? Such a suit would probably have a fail-safe for soldiers who lean the wrong way too much.

Correction: The suit is also heavily damaged by its fall from a freefalling ship and subsequent fight in the jungle. Whatever failsafes existed may have been compromised.

JC Fernandez

Corrected entry: Before the last battle, Jake and his human friends sneak out from the human operating headquarter. They fly to the forest and take away Grace's secret mobile lab. At this scene, Norm's avatar suddenly appear. Norm's avatar should be stay at the human lab. How do he can escape easily from there and join the human friend in the big forest?

sleepychung

Correction: The submitter assumes that Norm's avatar was at the lab. Actually, we haven't seen it through most of the movie; it could be anywhere. We also don't know what happens in the time between them leaving the hanger and arriving at the remote lab; they could have picked up Norm's avatar en route.

BocaDavie

Corrected entry: Col. Quaritch spends a lot of time exercising to remain fit in Pandora's supposed "low gravity". If the gravity were really low enough to cause health problems, the effects would be visible: objects would fall to the ground a lot slower, people would hop instead of running, etc. None of that happens, so the gravity can't be that low.

Correction: By 'low gravity' he is referring to gravity not equal to that of earth. If the gravity was, say, 3/4 that of earth items would fall at a rate indiscernible from the way they fall in normal gravity. Quaritch is not afraid of health problems; he just doesn't want to be weaker when he returns to earth.

BocaDavie

Corrected entry: During the video logs kept by Jake Sully, on the bottom there is a time/date stamp reading 08/24/2154. During the course of the logs over months, this never changes.

europabloke

Correction: Untrue. The dates for the logs do in fact change over time, several months' time, in fact.

JC Fernandez

Corrected entry: In the final battle, Jake and Norm access their Avatars from the same portable bunker. Midway through the battle, Norm's Avatar is killed and he exits his 'tanning bed' inside the portable bunker but isn't seen leaving it. He isn't seen again for awhile, not even when the Colonel breaks the windows in the bunker or when Jake starts suffocating inside.

Correction: After being disconnected from his injured avatar, Norm puts on a mask, picks up a human-scale gun and goes out to rejoin the fight in his human form. This is shown in at least two shots.

Tailkinker

Corrected entry: The Hallelujah Mountains - How is it possible for some the floating islands to have such powerful waterfalls? The flow/source seems disproportionate to the size of the island(s).

Correction: This is a question, not a mistake. Since we cannot see the source of the water you cannot assume it is a mistake for there to be "powerful waterfalls". The bizzare gravitational fields holding those islands in place must also be capable of pushing water up to the surface from within the island.

BocaDavie

Boca Dixie you didn't explain the error. Where is the source of the waterfall from smaller floating rocks? Magic? This is cosmetic for awe effect but at the cost of it being a serious blunder.

Perhaps very heavy condensation from atmosphere (there is fog everywhere). These waterfalls may not be permanent - some underground reservoir inside islands may be filling up until they are heavy enough to cause the island to tilt, after which the water flows out for some time until empty, and the process repeats. So they just see temporary waterfalls here and there.

Corrected entry: In the scene where Jake is looking at the photographs of the Na'vi on the refrigerator, the photographs are three dimensional. They should appear flat. (obviously only visible when seen in 3d.).

Ryouko

Correction: Given the advanced level of technology displayed throughout the film, there's no reason why they couldn't have 3D photographs.

Tailkinker

Corrected entry: Towards the final battle, we can see the avatars using fire weapons that would belong to humans, since avatars wouldn't have the technology. The weapon would look so tiny being used by an avatar, if it respected the proportion of a human being, but it fits the avatar frame perfectly.

ione

Correction: When Jake first goes out into the jungle, he's armed with a large-scale gun (probably designed for the mechanical suits). This is the gun used in the final battle.

JC Fernandez

Corrected entry: When Jake is giving his Braveheart speech, from behind he appears to have four fingers instead of three.

Correction: Jake doesn't have three fingers, he has four just like us. The Avatar bodies are mixed with human DNA, so they have the same number of fingers and toes as humans. This is clearly shown when Jake first links with his avatar. The Na'vi all have three fingers and a thumb.

Brad

Corrected entry: After switching sides, Jake and his crew escape into an area with heavy magnetic distortions so that they can not be detected. This area is also safe from cruise missiles due to the interferences. However, Jake has no problems using the portal to get into his Avatar.

BlueCell

Correction: The cruise missiles are susceptible to interference from magnetic distortions. Jake communicates with his Avatar through a neural link, obviously a technology that does not have the same limitations as the missiles.

BocaDavie

Corrected entry: When Jack is chased by the 'black tiger' when he first wanders around the forest, he jumps into the water to save himself. At night, he managed to light up his torch using the supposedly wet matchbox. (00:33:15)

Correction: Firstly, its JAKE not Jack, and secondly, being a soldier, he would be equipped with weatherproof and waterproof matches. Certainly military forces today have them, even more likely they would have them in the future.

GalahadFairlight

Corrected entry: The movie is set in the year 2154. Humans have developed the technology to travel to a distant planet, yet they still use wheelchairs for paraplegics (Jake Sully)? Wouldn't more advanced technology have been developed to aid paraplegics by then?

Correction: This is a question, not a mistake. They do have the technology to repair his legs, that was never the problem. The problem was that the Veterans Administration refused to fund the operation. That's why Colonel Quaritch is able to bribe Jake to go along with his plan - by promising Jake that if he goes along with the plan Quaritch will get him his "new legs". As for the wheelchair, it is Jake's choice to use it instead of some floating device; he obviously wanted to keep his arms strong, and even refuses assistance from anyone trying to help him.

BocaDavie

Continuity mistake: When Jake first gets into the "syncing" device and he says, "This is cool," Grace's hands are already on his leg. In the next shot she reaches for his legs, where he replies, "Don't, I got this."

Trivia: James Cameron wrote the script for Avatar in 1995 but could not begin filming because of technological limitations. Cameron felt he could begin after seeing the technology used to create Gollum in the Lord of the Rings films and returned to the project in 2005.

Chosen answer: Jake and Neytiri were holding hands and Neytiri had her hair unbraided. It is also possible that when Na'vi mate, their appearance changes slightly in a way that only other Na'vi could see.
