Corrected entry: In the scene where Quaritch and Sully are talking for the first time, Quaritch checks his AMP suit and then climbs inside. A red "remove before operation" strap can be seen hanging off the front right side of the AMP suit, next to where the ammo belt comes out. As the two of them talk, the camera cuts back and forth a few times and the strap remains visible; in the last shot before Quaritch assumes control of the AMP suit and begins to walk, this strap has vanished.

mrspleen

Correction: There is a technician/mechanic working on the suit. He walks back and forth behind the suit before it starts up, so he must have removed the ribbon a few seconds before start-up.

Corrected entry: In the scene when the mobile lab is air dropped at the Tree Of Life, the first interior shot inside of the lab shows Grace smoking a cigarette that is half gone, she turns and the cigarette is suddenly just lit (longer).

Correction: When the mobile lab is dropped near the Tree of Souls, Grace is wounded and not smoking anything. If you mean when they first arrive at the remote lab, Grace's cigarette is the same between shots.

tavenger5

Corrected entry: When Natiri first shows Jake her flying bird for a quick 2 or 3 second scene, she has her back to the camera and she has no ponytail.

Correction: In this scene Neytiri's left arm puts her ponytail in front of her as her Ikran lands.

tavenger5

Corrected entry: When Jake faces off with the hammerhead rhino, its family unit or herd is not behind it until after it charges and then begins to back off.

Correction: They are behind it, hidden in the thick foliage. The camera cuts to show Jake's expression, when they show the hammerhead again the rest of the hammerheads have moved forward.

BocaDavie

Corrected entry: During Jake and Neytiri's "mate for life" scene, after their first kiss you can see that their queues (neural-interface hair braids) are connected. This is how the Na'vi mate for life. It does not, however, lead to reproduction.

Dusso Janladde

Correction: This is not mentioned anywhere in the film; for all we know DNA could be passed along through their braids. Please provide the basis for your submission. If there's nothing to prove it then the submitter is just making a general assumption on the Na'vi anatomy.

BocaDavie

Corrected entry: It is established that Jake's voice-over narration of the film is actually his video logs. After he escapes from Hell's Gate, he continues to narrate. However, Jake would have no reason to continue making video logs at this point. It was one of his video logs that ultimately betrayed the Na'vi, and the camera used to make the logs was in the shack without the link beds, which was left behind when they airlifted the other shack.

Correction: At the end of the movie, Jake is seen making one last video log after the humans have left. He probably would've picked up the story from there.

Brad

Corrected entry: When Avatars go to sleep for the first time (at RDA base), there is one avatar with 4 fingers. It's 5 seconds before Jake's play with pony-tail. Human avatars have 5 fingers, Na'vi ones just 4. This one has a red t-shirt, so it looks like a na'vi spy, or there is a render error.

xsoft

Correction: When Jake is going to sleep in this scene, this avatar is going to sleep in the background. He can be seen to have 5 fingers here. Earlier in the scene, his 5th finger could not be seen because of the angle of the shot.

Dusso Janladde

Corrected entry: Just before Jake and Neytiri go to the Tree of Voices, there is a shot of Polyphemus (the planet that Pandora orbits) visibly rotating. It is impossible for a planet to rotate this fast, and it is not seen to visibly rotate anywhere else in the movie.

Correction: It is a complete assumption to say that a planet cannot rotate at that speed. In a world where mountains can float we will have to accept that almost anything is possible, including a planet that can rotate at varying speeds; there are extraordinary gravitational forces at work in this system.

BocaDavie

Corrected entry: In the last scenes after Jake kills the colonel, while he's lying on the floor hardly breathing, we see Neytiri holding him with her hands. Her thumbs and hands have human skin, not Na'vi. This happens twice.

Correction: The only human hands in the scene are Jake's hands. There are some patches of light in Neytiris hands but no human skin.

Corrected entry: In the last video log J. Sully records the year in the date at the bottom is "2054", not "2154".

Correction: In the last entry of Jake in the end of the movie the date reads 08/24/2154.

Corrected entry: When Jake is learning to control his ikran you can see the actor's tattooed forearm covered in a black fishnet type mesh.

Correction: There is no "covering" of any tattoos, because all the avatars are computer generated. They are not using actual actors.

Corrected entry: In one scene, when Neytiri is reaching for a flower to get some fresh water out of it, she grabs the stem of the flower. Neytiri pulls it to her and then she opens her mouth halfway. When the camera changes perspective, she opens her mouth again.

donroyco

Correction: Neytiri is continuously opening her mouth between the two scenes.

Corrected entry: When Jake (as his avatar) is carrying Grace to the tree, the shot from behind shows him in full human clothes. When the shot changes to the front view, he now is wearing only native garb (basically nothing).

Correction: When Jake, as his avatar, is carry Grace, the human, he is wearing na'vi garb. It's actually Norm Spellman, as his avatar, carrying Grace's avatar that is wearing human garb.

Corrected entry: After Jake is accepted as one of the Omiticaya, Neytiri takes him to the Tree of Voices. While she's speaking, he reaches for one of the dangling tendrils. The angle of the camera shows it is seen to be only one. When the camera angle changes, the one becomes three tendrils with large spaces between them close to the top of the screen, which it would have been obvious to see in the previous shot, as the difference in angles isn't too great.

HulkObsessedChick

Correction: Jake starts to grab one, but moves over more and picks up three in the sequence. It's quick, but he definitely pulls three.

Corrected entry: Near the end of the sky-battle, Trudy with her chopper fires rounds at the mothership pilot and gets some herself, but even with these bullet holes, they don't lose air and don't put on their oxygen masks.

Correction: The cabin of the chopper would be pressurized so they wouldn't need to wear the oxygen masks while flying. The bullet holes weren't big enough to require masks, and the pressurization was enough to compensate for the air loss.

rswarrior

Corrected entry: When Jake and Neytiri 'mate for life,' Neytiri has no braids and longer hair, yet when Jake returns to his avatar body in Home tree Neytiri has her hair in braids and it shorter like at the beginning of the film.

Correction: Hours pass by after the 'mate for life' scene, it is completely plausible for Neytiri to re-braid her hair in that time. Braids also make your hair shorter.

Corrected entry: It was said in the dialogue that the area surrounding the Soul Tree disrupts electronic missile guidance systems. That's why the humans planned to manually drop explosives over the Soul Tree instead of blasting it with a guided missile. Yet during the aerial dogfights between the Na'vi and the "Sky People" Trudy was off the sky by a missile from the mothership that had a curved trajectory [a guided missile!]. (02:18:10)

Correction: Many electronic things worked - just not radar. Heat seeking missiles should work fine.

Corrected entry: When Jake makes his spear after recovering from his swim he then makes a 'torch' when it gets dark. How did he discover that the liquid goo he dips his torch in was flammable? Plus, if there's a lot of this flammable goo, how come it didnt ignite when all the missiles and incendiaries were going off in the later battles at hometree and soul tree?

Correction: First of all, noone says there was a LOT of the flammable sap around. It might very well be the product of only one semi-rare tree. As for how he knew about it, he DID go through a period of training and education before being placed on Pandora. Someone could easily have told him "watch out for this type of tree; its sap is flammable".

Twotall

Corrected entry: When Quaritch runs out to chase the escapee ship (he holds his breath and runs outside), he fires several rounds. We see a shot of the ship toward the right of the screen moving left. Quaritch, in his last effort pulls out his handgun and fires 4 shots across the screen (left to right on the screen, right to left for him). The camera cuts back to the ship. The ship is going far too slow for any but the last shot to have hit, and his others were so dead-on that it can't be an accidental miss.

bigfootcube

Correction: Quaritch is almost out of breath after holding onto a single breath of air. He's firing a hand gun. The ship is at least a hundred metres away. You're expecting him to be dead-on accurate with his shots?

XIII

Corrected entry: When Jake is at the Soul Tree with his big new bird [I don't know what it's called] to say sorry to everyone, you can see white pixels for at least 15 frames on the wings of this giant animal. I saw this in the 3d Version.

Correction: The outer edges of the Toruk's wings are transparent, this is what causes the 'pixily' look as it flaps it wings during its decent and landing.

Continuity mistake: When Jake first gets into the "syncing" device and he says, "This is cool," Grace's hands are already on his leg. In the next shot she reaches for his legs, where he replies, "Don't, I got this."

Dr. Grace Augustine: So you just figured you'd come here, to the most hostile environment known to man, with no training of any kind, and see how it went? What was going through your head?
Jake Sully: Maybe I was sick of doctors telling me what I couldn't do.

Trivia: James Cameron wrote the script for Avatar in 1995 but could not begin filming because of technological limitations. Cameron felt he could begin after seeing the technology used to create Gollum in the Lord of the Rings films and returned to the project in 2005.

Question: Does this movie take place in the same universe as ALIENS?

Answer: No. The Alien franchise, which kicks off in the year 2122, depicts a human civilisation in possession of faster-than-light transport and multiple interstellar colonies. The civilisation seen in Avatar, the majority of which is set in 2154, do not appear to have FTL travel, as they take six years to travel to the Alpha Centauri system, a distance of approximately 4.5 light years.
