Audio problem: When the first bus blows up (the one that Bob was driving) you can hear the explosion before the bus actually blows up.

Continuity mistake: At the beginning of the movie we see Keanu Reeves taking Jeff Daniels "out of the equation" by shooting him in the leg. We realise it's a serious injury as he requires the use of a cane when receiving his medal. However later on in the movie when they move in on Dennis Hopper's home, which takes place the next day, Daniels is part of the assault team and has no cane, no limp and is obviously very mobile.

Continuity mistake: When Jack drives on the shoulder, honking his horn to let people know that he's coming, he's pressing on a silver ring, which is the horn, but in the next shot, it's gone. While the ring only covers half the wheel, as he's going almost entirely straight it should always be in the same position. (00:31:35)

Plot hole: Jack or Harry would have definitely reported finding the suspect in the freight elevator before engaging him, and they would not be ordered to go alone. Also, all possible exits would be covered, even after an explosion.

Factual error: When the bus is forced to exit the freeway due to the stopped traffic up ahead, the exit taken is a curved exit and stays level. The storyline mentions this was the Western Ave exit from the Santa Monica freeway. The real exits for Western Ave (from each direction) head straight uphill to the street above and with no curves at all.

Revealing mistake: In the scene after the bus makes the hard right turn, it's moving towards the exit onto the 105 freeway. The bus is surrounded by cop cars and motorcycles - the camera angle is from the air. The bus slams on the brakes to avoid hitting the cop car in front of it - it's only a second but it's obvious the bus wasn't going over 50mph. (00:52:57)

Revealing mistake: The monitor Payne is using to the watch the inside of the bus is nowhere to be seen every time the inside of his hideout is shown. Only until it's revealed he had a camera hidden is the monitor shown.

Plot hole: It is never definitively stated if the bomb is tied directly to the axle, triggered by the speedometer instrumentation or throttle. Regardless, as long as the wheels keep spinning above 50mph the bomb will not explode by design. This means that if you lifted the wheels of the bus off the ground or you bottom out, you could keep accelerating without any speed at all. This could be accomplished in any number of ways. One example would be driving on grass and keeping the tires spinning.

Suggested correction: And that would accomplish precisely nothing. They know Payne is watching them and he explicitly stated no-one is allowed to get off the bus or he will detonate it, only making an exception for the injured driver. What good is finding a way to keep the wheels in motion if everyone is still stuck on the bus?

The mistake is suggesting that you basically find a way to stop the bus but keep the wheels spinning such as grounding it on a hill. Then while the bus is stationary, just (I'm assuming here) put a weight on the accelerator to keep the wheels spinning and then everyone just hop off and walk away. However, you're correct in that Howard is watching the live feed so would just blow the bomb when people got off.

I fully understood what the entry was suggesting, but Payne's demand that everyone stays on the bus under penalty of detonation voids it. Even if that wasn't the case, finding a way to somehow stop the bus but keeping the wheels spinning (such as lifting it with a helicopter) would be a logistical nightmare in that scenario. Their plans to drive on the otherwise unoccupied freeway and then circle the airport runway were much more practical.

The other glaring problem with "stopping the bus while keeping the wheels moving" is those pesky laws of physics. Momentum, kinetic energy, and inertia would all prevent that from happening under any circumstance that could be quickly cobbled together by any police department. I'm sure physicists and engineers could come up with something given a few months and a buttload of money, but for this example you could consider it impossible - especially without causing a lot of passenger injuries.

Revealing mistake: When Jack is fighting Howard on top of the train, for a second or two, you can see a blue screen behind Howard instead of the regular background. Someone forgot to add the chroma key background in post. (01:44:05)

Visible crew/equipment: As the bus goes down the freeway, there's a shot of the police chopper following the chase. The movie camera chopper is seen above and to the right of the police chopper that is referred to as a news chopper, but isn't seen again.

Movie Nut

Visible crew/equipment: After Tuneman's Jaguar hits the water barrels, a film crew's truck can be seen out the bus's rear window just before the shot cuts away. (00:40:05)

Continuity mistake: After the first bus explodes, Jack ducks for cover near his Bronco. Soon he looks over at the burning wreck and stands up - but notice that he's still crouched down in very next shot. (00:27:50)

Revealing mistake: When Ortiz first sees Jack stranded beneath the moving bus, he lifts his head to tell Annie. But the pavement, as seen through the bus floor's opening, is completely motionless. (01:17:25)

ryguy_1983

Continuity mistake: Upon exiting the highway into downtown traffic and blasting through a red light, the bus has a couple of road signs lodged into its bumper which disappear between shots - right before it gets blindsided by a Ford Taurus. (00:47:15)

ryguy_1983

Continuity mistake: The paint that sprays on Payne's face changes splatter pattern throughout the rest of the scenes with Payne. (01:35:30)

Ssiscool

Continuity mistake: When Payne shoots the train driver in the back, blood appears on his shirt. A few seconds later when he is falling down, his shirt is clean. (01:37:10)

Ssiscool

Revealing mistake: The whole structure surrounding the elevator appears shiny and spotless, with the wires lacking a single spot of grease, revealing it's a set. (00:04:25)

Sacha

Continuity mistake: In the shots before the bus blows up the Pacific Courier Freight plane, you can see that the vehicle towing it and the plane itself are no longer moving, as opposed to a couple of shots before this where the tow vehicle and plane are moving at a good pace. You also can no longer see the man who is supposed to be driving the tow vehicle (who might have run for it, but there's minimal time).

Swat Cop: Anything else that'll keep this elevator from falling?
Jack: Yeah. The basement.

Trivia: When the bus crashes into the plane at the end, the company logo on the plane is "Pacific Courier." This fictional company name also appears in "Die Hard"--it's on the truck the terrorists show up in (except Karl and Theo, who arrive by car). Jan de Bont, who directed "Speed," was DP on "Die Hard."

Question: How would you get on the roof of a moving subway? We don't see it in the movie (Jack looks up and starts to climb - cut - Jack is on the roof.... Howard cries 'I'm coming for you Jack and runs - cut - Howard is behind Jack on the roof. after the fight when Howard 'lost his head' - cut - Jack is inside the subway again...).

Answer: Ventilation shafts or roof panels.
