Trivia: While giving a lecture at the Hollywood Scriptwriting Institute, director Joe Dante trash talked the novel "The Howling" on which the movie is based. One person in the audience raised his hand and asked, "So, you don't like the book, huh?" with Joe stating, "No, not really." The man responded that he was the one who wrote the novel. To Joe's surprise, the man in the audience was Gray Brandner, the author of "The Howling."
Trivia: When Neville receives a Remembrall from his grandmother, it glows red to inform him that he forgot something. Neville says that he can't remember what he forgot. If you look closely, Neville is one of very few students not wearing his robe. He most likely forgot to put his robe on.
Trivia: When a Nazi falls from the back of the truck carrying the Ark, a "Wilhelm scream" can be heard.

Trivia: Bob Geldof hates this film. He is quoted as saying "I hated it! I was embarrassed. I didn't know what I was getting into... I thought my acting was terrible. The script was ridiculous. And I hate Pink Floyd. As you may recall I was a punk rocker, so if you want to say something just keep it to three minutes..." He had to be physically restrained by director Alan Parker when he tried to get up and leave during the preview screening of the film at Cannes. In his autobiography "Is That It?" he trashes the film at length, labelling the script as puerile nonsense, and is particularly scathing about the political stance it appears to take. He had a miserable time on the set (reportedly, so did everyone else) and now refuses to even talk about the film or his experiences making it.

Trivia: Actor Richard Davalos kept his bayonet razor sharp and accidentally stabbed Telly Savalas in the arm during the scene where the squad jumps over the wall to ambush the Germans on the road, warranting bandages on Savalas' arm. In the film, Savalas kept his shirt sleeves rolled up, until he was stabbed, and then kept his sleeves rolled down to hide the bandages.
Trivia: The main characters are taken from other sci-fi movies. The Missing Link is meant to be The Creature From The Black Lagoon (1954); B.O.B. is meant to be The Blob (1958); Ginormica is based on Attack Of The 50 Foot Woman (1958); Dr. Cockroach is copied from The Fly (1958); and Insectosaurus is based on Mosura (1961).
Trivia: When James Brolin was offered the role of George Lutz, he was informed that they didn't have a script to give him. James bought a copy of the novel and began to read it. At two o'clock in the morning, while reading a very intense part of the book, a pair of pants that he had hung up earlier fell to the ground causing him to jump in fright. After that, James agreed to do the film.
