Grease

Revealing mistake: In the soda shop, the waitress turns off the lights with her elbow because her hands are full, but she misses the light switch by 6 inches. (00:55:10)

Factual error: The movie and events take place in 1958. However, two Fender amplifiers that are used by the band, "Johnny Casino and The Gamblers" are "Silverface" models that were only manufactured between 1967 and 1981.

Audio problem: During "We Go Together" at the end, John Travolta's mouth is not in sync with the words "we'll always be like one." He appears to start singing "that's the way it should be" before realizing and correcting his mistake.

Visible crew/equipment: In the soda shop scene where Sandy and Danny are at the jukebox, the reflection of the boom mic is clearly visible in the chrome part of the jukebox. [True of videos and early DVD releases - in later DVD releases the reflection has been removed].

Audio problem: At the cotton candy stand at the graduation carnival, Blanche is seen silently mouthing the question "How many?" In the next scene, from a different camera angle, the same question is asked - this time with audio intact.

Continuity mistake: When the three T-Birds go to moon at the TV camera at the National Dance Off, Doody says "1, 2, 3, go!" and pulls down his trousers to his ankles. In the next scene, his trousers are suddenly pulled right up to his buttocks.

Factual error: At the graduation carnival at the end of the movie, Danny enters wearing a letterman's sweater and explains to his buddies that he earned it by lettering in track. However, on his left sleeve are two stripes, indicating that he lettered in two separate years. Since you are only awarded a stripe for each year you letter, and since Danny was a senior when he lettered in track, his Rydell letterman's sweater should have had only one red stripe on his left arm.

Continuity mistake: At Frenchie's sleepover when they are talking about piercing Sandy's ears, it shows Sandy holding the wine bottle and passing it to Jan. Then it cuts back to Sandy and she is still holding the wine, then it cuts back to Jan and she has the wine again.

Continuity mistake: When "Crater Face" comes to the dance with Marty and Rizzo, he takes his sunglasses off twice.

Continuity mistake: In the scene where the whole gang is eating at the soda shop, everybody starts leaving. Doody is in the back, in the middle, on the railing. He's getting ready to leave, takes a bite of his ice cream and sets it down. In the next shot, he sets it down again.

Revealing mistake: At the dance, there's a scene where everyone started dancing after Cha-Cha and Danny won the trophy. Well Marty comes in from the side of the screen and lands on the floor in some kind of split, and you can see she is wearing a knee pad on her right knee.

Factual error: When the Pink Ladies are walking Sandy into the outdoor cafeteria, just after she tells them the name of the boy she met last summer, all the cars in the background are from the 70's, not from the late 50's or early 60's. This actually happens twice in the same scene.

Continuity mistake: In "We go together" they all dance forwards. When the camera changes angle Frenchy and Doody have switched sides.

Continuity mistake: When Marty is talking to Vince Fontaine before the dance contest, towards the end of their conversation she starts to lift up her purse with her right hand. But suddenly it cuts to another angle, and her arm is down.

Continuity mistake: Sandy walks over to meet the girls after doing a cartwheel. On Sandy's cheerleading uniform, there is a LONG red string right next to the letter on her shirt. Then, suddenly, the string disappears in the very next shot. Then in the scene after that it is back again, and then the string is back on her shirt. (00:22:20)

Continuity mistake: During the slumber party at Frenchie's, when Rizzo brings out the wine, check out the junk on the headboard. Later in the scene when Marty is putting on her robe, the headboard is clear and now has a black fan on the left. Then even later when Jan says "You ain't getting your hands on my ears" the headboard is cluttered again, with the black fan too. (00:27:35)

Continuity mistake: In the middle of the dance contest, Patty Simcox does a funny front walkover, and comes dancing towards the camera. Over her shoulder, you can see Sonny running up behind her. But suddenly it cuts to another angle, and Kenickie is running up behind her to lift up her dress, and Sonny is nowhere to be seen.

Krista

Revealing mistake: When Sandy checks into school for the first time, she goes down to the office and the assistant principal gives her some forms to fill out. If you look closely, you'll be able to see that the top form is just a blank piece of paper.

Other mistake: On the first day of school, when Patty is starting to sit down next to Sandy, her reaction to sitting on the apple is way too early.

Emily

Factual error: In the scene where Danny is talking to Sandy at the Frosty Palace, the jukebox behind them is a 1973 model, but the film takes place in 1959.

Rizzo: I got so many hickeys, people'll think I'm a leper.
Kenickie: Cheer up! A hickey from Kenickie is like a Hallmark card.

Trivia: John Travolta made up the "cool dude walk" that Danny uses in the first scenes, when trying to create a bad boy image.

Question: I can't understand why Sonny hauled Sandy off the dance floor during the dance finale. Sure Sonny was a bit of a jerk, but he idolized Danny and would never disrespect him. Also there was nothing to suggest that he and Cha-Cha were friends. I never truly understood.

Gavin Jackson

Answer: Watched that scene again now and I just think it was poor writing (in what's still a classic film regardless). How none of the judges noticed that Cha Cha took another girl's (Sandy's) place even after she'd already been "tapped out" is another huge plot hole. Plus a lot of people in America were watching the dance on TV and it's not mentioned by anyone after this scene. 35 years later and that scene still bugs me (haha).

Answer: I agree it plays a bit strange, but I always chalked it up to Sonny wanting Danny to win the dance competition and Sandy, although not bad, admits she's not on Danny's level, while Cha-cha is "the best dancer at St. Bernadette."

Also, he was drinking and upset so not thinking.

Answer: He's fall-down drunk, that's why. He's drinking during the entire dance.

Krista

Answer: It was because they were going to moon the cameras, they didn't want to embarrass Sandy since she would've been offended if it happened when she and Danny were dancing.

Answer: When he's pulling Sandy away he is also yelling to Danny "Go! Go! Go!" So I was also wondering like if Cha-Cha told him to do that and they just failed to add that into the scene.

Chosen answer: It's so Cha-Cha can go with Danny. You can see Cha-Cha giving Danny the eye. So Sonny took Sandy away for Cha-Cha's benefit.

Answer: Because in real life Olivia was late for work, as a result Annette had to take Olivia's place because she was her understudy.

Answer: He is so upset about Marty liking Ed Byrnes, he just drinks all night.

Answer: I think it was because Sonny was drunk and wanted Sandy to talk to Marty for him since she dumped him for Vince Fontaine at the beginning of the dance.

Answer: It's a terrible moment in the story because it exposes Danny as being thoughtless. After already burning Sandy once (at the pep rally) you'd think he'd be mindful of not doing it again. This time, though, he humiliates her in front of the entire school, as well as on television. Unsure how Sandy's sitting with him in the next scene at the drive-in only slightly miffed. Imagine how this plays as a story to their children: "Hey, kids, did I ever tell you about how your dad embarrassed me in front of everybody?" I guess it's meant to be partly motivation for Sandy to change her image and outlook in order to keep Danny, but it's a terrible message (even back then). She's nothing but thoughtful and considerate, and Danny repeatedly treats her badly, but she decides she needs to reinvent herself. (Danny's makeover doesn't count given it lasts about three minutes.) It would've been better had Danny and Sandy came second because of Sandy's dancing, and that could've played on her mind.

Answer: Well my theory is maybe since Sonny wants a girl, Cha-Cha promised him a date with a girl if he agreed to her plan.
