Evil Dead II picture

Question: Why does anybody (including Sam Raimi) claim that Evil Dead 2 is a sequel with flashbacks to the first film? As a sequel, there is virtually zero continuity to the first film. This was an obvious remake.

Charles Miller

Chosen answer: Evil Dead II starts out with a recap of The Evil Dead where Ash cuts off the head of his girlfriend Linda with a shovel and then is attacked by the entity, which is how the first film ended. While Linda is played by a different actress, it's still meant to be the same events as The Evil Dead. The cabin windows are still barricaded from the end of the first Evil Dead, and Ash's pant leg is still torn from Deadite Scott attacking Ash. Additionally, the end credits say: "Evil Dead II", the sequel to the ultimate experience in grueling horror, was filmed in Wadesboro, North Carolina and Detroit, U.S.A.

Question: Why wasn't Dale arrested after he hit the officer's sister and beat up two other people?

kurt hudson

Chosen answer: If she arrested Dale, her sister (Dale's gf) would be upset. But mostly, it's a small town where they all know each other, and that's just how things work.

Answer: Plus The sister would have denied it. She said she fell down and just like Kurt added it's a small town plus he already had people on his side when he jumped on the family at the dinner. Plus his girlfriend jumped in mom face because Dale was mad at husband.

Drag Me To Hell picture

Question: Was miss Ganush alive when she first attacked Christine, or was that the first manifestation and torment of the Lamia? The attack and it's effects seem highly consistent with what happens to Christine later on, and the frail old lady is just too powerful and durable for someone who dies a day or two later.

Chosen answer: Christine didn't get cursed until the end of that fight, so it could not have been the first attack from the Lamia.

Addams Family Values picture

Question: Why does the boy scream like a maniac when he spots the Michael Jackson poster on the wall?

Carl Missouri

Chosen answer: Not only is it a reference to Jackson's general scary weirdness, but also his alleged pedophilia (child molestation), causing the boy to react in fear.

The Gathering picture

Question: Why did Argyle want to kill Michael? I can understand wanting to kill those who harmed him but Michael was an innocent boy.

Answer: While Argyle shows a strange affinity for Michael, his primary goal is still revenge on the entire town. Innocent or not, Michael is connected to those who tortured him.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer picture

Question: I've been wanting to finally watch the TV series, but I've never understood one thing... I know the movie is technically not 100% canonical with the series, but I've heard they later tried to connect it with the series with a comic-book adaptation. So should I watch the movie before the series? Or should I just go ahead and watch the series on its own, and treat the movie as an entirely separate "thing"? Or can it be done either way?

Answer: I'd say you treat them as 2 separate things. My personal opinion is that you should just watch the series and forget about the movie.

Question: Where was David Mann actually going? And where from? As in, which states? He seemed to be travelling for hours even before he met the truck and seemed to have a long way to go yet.

The_Iceman

Chosen answer: The movie opens with him in downtown Los Angeles, California, so he's probably from there or somewhere in Southern California. He's heading to Bakersfield, California, which is north, about 2 hours away. In the short story, he's heading to a client in San Francisco. However, in the film he gets off the main freeway running from LA to Bakersfield (IH-5) and takes Highway 14 towards Canyon Country.

Interview with the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles picture

Question: I never would have picked Tom Cruise for that role, but he did a fabulous job. However, I was wondering who else the casting people considered, and what made them choose Tom Cruise?

Chosen answer: Daniel Day Lewis was offered the part, but turned it down. There's also a rumour, that I've never seen confirmed, that Johnny Depp was approached - if true, he presumably said no. The studio wanted a good name in the role (Lewis was riding high in Hollywood after "The Last of the Mohicans", Depp was very much an up-and-coming actor at the time) so Cruise would have seemed like an obvious choice. He was initially cast against the wishes of Anne Rice (who created Lestat with Rutger Hauer in mind) - after seeing his performance, however, she made a public apology for doubting him.

Battle Royale picture

Question: In the original novel, it was Shogo (not Shuya) who hacked the system to discover how to disable the collars; at the same time he found out that the class would be doing the Battle Royale and transferred into that class to try and use his knowledge to mess it up. In the film, the person who found out how to disable the collars and the person who found out about the Battle Royale and transferred into it are different people. Does anyone know why this change was made?

Moose Premium member

Chosen answer: Kawada hacked the system, learned about the collars, and transferred voluntarily to the class he knew would be participtaing in both versions. The only difference is when he transferred: in the book, it was right after his win, and in the film it was just for the battle. Shuya never hacked anything in either the book or the film. As to why the change was made, I can only assume that, given the shortening of novels involved in film making, it's easier to make Kawada a complete stranger than a loner that the kids recognize.

Question: Was the mother (the drunk lady that picked up Natasha and the one that was throwing up in the toilet in 10F in the dream) Dahlia's mother or Natasha's mother? Which one was imagining it?

Chosen answer: The drunk woman in the begining of the movie was Dahlia's mother. (Remember, the husband was going to say that Dahlia was unstable because she had an abusive father and an alcoholic mother) That was a flashback. Dahlia was dreaming when she saw herself throwing up in the toilet.

The Orphanage picture

Question: The game they play near the start (the knock on wood game) seems pretty interesting. Is the point of it not to get caught moving or is there another goal? Also, can someone help me with the Spanish translation? I can't hear what the Spanish for Knock on Wood is. Thanks.

SexyIrishLeprechaun

Chosen answer: It's a Spanish version of Red Light, Green Light where you'd try not to get caught moving. I haven't watched the film in a while but I believe she says "Uno, dos, tres, toca la pared". Hope that helps!

Underworld: Evolution picture

Question: My friend swears the lead female actress changes at about 10-15 minutes into the film. He says Yancy Butler of Witchblade fame plays the lead at first, and then someone else (I assume it must be Kate Beckinsale) takes over the role. My research to date tells me my friend is nuts. Is he? Is there any explanation related to this? (I think maybe it's due to my friend's pain medication/s - a side effect of some sort.) Thank you for the help. He paid me to research this for him (only two bucks) and so far I've spent over two hours on it. But I did at least learn about these actresses.

Chosen answer: This could be a confusion over characters. If I remember rightly, the film opens with a scene set somewhere around 1200AD, showing the three vampire elders, Markus, Viktor and Amelia, leading a war party. Possibly your friend has mistaken Amelia, played by Hungarian actress Zita Görög, for Selene, who doesn't appear in the film until after this lengthy flashback sequence has finished.

Hereditary picture

Question: Not sure this is a movie mistake. When the mom is sawing off her own head, wouldn't the sawing have stopped once she cut through her spinal cord? The muscles in her arms/hands would have gone limp and her head would not completely fall off - though it would fall forward. You don't actually see her head fall but you hear the bang on the floor and her head is missing at the end.

odelphi

Answer: There were supernatural forces at work, so basic rules of human anatomy and physics don't really apply in the situation.

Phaneron Premium member

Answer: When she's sawing off her own head, she's also suspended about 12 feet in the air. Afterwards, you also see the headless mom's body levitating up to the treehouse. So, obviously, there were powerful demonic forces that suspended her in the air, sawed off her head, then carried her up into the treehouse.

Friday the 13th Part 2 picture

Question: What was that first body in the woods that looked like Muffin? It couldn't have been Muffin because she shows up at the end right?

Chosen answer: It never really says what the body is, but I'd assume it were a rabbit or some other small woodland creature. It can't be Muffin because, like you said, Muffin appears later on.

Dracula: Dead and Loving It picture

Question: The credits and IMDb claim that clips from the movies The Premature Burial (1962) and Mutiny on the Bounty (1962) are used in the film. Where are these clips?

Chosen answer: A clip from Mutiny on the Bounty is used in the ship scene. I believe it's on deck before Renfield and Dracula are seen. The premature burial is the scene when Lucy's coffin is being carried on the moors.

Jeepers Creepers 2 picture

Question: When the Creeper lands on top of the bus, you can see he is missing his right wing and his left arm is mangled to the bone. After eating Dante's head, he flies away with two wings and both arms. However, he didn't eat either of Dante's arms and there weren't any extra wings lying around to eat. So how did he get his left arm and right wing back? (00:53:55)

Super.Genius.Infinity.Squared

Answer: Eating human flesh helps the Creeper regenerate his whole body, no matter which part he ate.

The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor picture

Question: Why didn't Rachel Weisz reprise her role as Evelyn in the third film?

Chosen answer: Although she initially expressed an interest in returning, she reportedly disliked the script and ultimately chose not to reappear. While the producers initially considered writing the character out, with the story rationale that she had been killed in an air-raid on London during World War Two, it was ultimately decided that this would require too much rewriting and thus the character was recast.

Tailkinker Premium member

Answer: I read the reason she didn't want to do it was she had just given birth to her first child and didn't want to leave and do location shooting.
